I do know that a Chinese company (Fuyao Glass America) invested (and is still investing) hundreds of millions of dollars in my area and they are about 10 miles from Wright-Patterson AFB. I don't think for a second they aren't being watched by US intelligence. On the other hand, they brought in a lot of manufacturing opportunities to what remained of an old GM plant. They supply auto glass to US manufacturers. Dunno...maybe corn milling equipment is different.
