@@stooneyvine Thank you for still thinking of it. They accept it at orientation as well. Hope you are off to a great start at Crete! Let us know how it’s going! And thank you if you did use our code. Either way…thanks for watching our videos!
That’s amazing, you’ve been driving for a few years now (with mega carriers) and that the first time you ran into that air slide. You learn something new everyday. Stay safe out there
There is no switch on the dash of the truck to release the tandems locking pin. But when you want to set the pin you can release your trailer brakes to set the pin. Usually those trucks have a Brake handle on the dash to help with this but Crete does not.
So glad Crete is getting these. Hopefully its not just a one off. You can save a trip walking to the back after sliding by just disengaging the trailer brakes. This has the same effect as pushing the switch on the trailer. Also, trailer air ride will make your ride much smoother as well, not just the freight!
When I got one of those trailers the first time I looked on UA-cam there are a ton of videos on how to use air slide tandems. UA-cam is your friend 😂 Actually wish all of Crete’s trailers had them they are great once you figure them out. One tip on those after you hook up get air to the trailer for about 30 seconds or so. If the trailer doesn’t have air it won’t work. Here’s one video: ua-cam.com/video/W8OllQhRJJ8/v-deo.htmlsi=ojoFkHukKUAbX1bR
Nice presentation. FYI...I worked in EHS/trailer check-in for a few weeks. I made a map highlighting the shipping/receiving office. And marked with arrows the direction of traffic. Made several copies and drivers found this very handy. I enjoy helping others! God Bless 🤙
1 thing is, you have to air up the trailer first by releasing your brakes. Then, apply trailer brakes and pull the valve out. Slide to where you're happy, release the trailer brakes (push red button in) and slide foward or back, while the spike is on, to officially lock the pins.
LOL. I feel your pain. My trainer only showed me how to use the manual handle to adjust the pins. I was flummoxed at first with the air activated pins, but they're way easier. I'm surprised you hadn't run into this before.
@@TheJoyofTrucking I'm watching this again. So funny! For other viewers: There is no "push button" on the truck's dash. You just use your brake controls to lock the trailer tires, and then pull (or back) the tractor over the trailer axles to "move" the tandems. You only have to pull to release- recharging the trailer brakes with air will make the pins pop out, so it saves you a trip back to the trailer that you would otherwise have with a manual pull handle.
Yep, agree with the other posters Kevin...pull the knob on the trailer to retract the pins, get in the tractor and slide the tandems, then release and engage the trailer brakes again, then do your tug to make sure the pins are locked. Releasing the trailer brakes should engage the pins again, so no need to get out just to set the pins, although you still want to inspect that they are locked.
28:15 You can't pick up a lot of fruit loads such as berries if you don't have air ride suspension. Some very new trailers have bluetooth remote control
You pull out the button on the slider. On some you push it in the pins will retract and you can slide it. With the brakes locked when you think it's in the position you need? Release the brakes and they'll pop back in. You may have to lock the brakes again and shake it. Slide it a little either way and it'll pop in and lock. Utility and Great Dane are Old sturdy American trailer companies. Utility is a great trailer.
I saw a Crete truck and trailer at my local Menards today so I had to check but it wasn't you. First time that I have seen a Crete truck there. Thanks for the video. Keep the shiny side up
Crete got some of those utility trailers for the dryvan division. They are ok. We have those on the refrigerator side for a long time. I remember when i was doing shaffer. But we can't put the enforced lock on those. I made a video on that 2 weeks ago

Just an FYI on those air ride trailers. Once you slide your tandems you can just release your trailer brakes and the pins will pop back out. Just pull the trailer dolly handle and that will hold the brakes to set them in place.
I thought all we had at Crete on dryvan side was spring ride. Thank goodness I know we got at least one out there that’s air ride. Keep up the great videos.
Word of advice when you weigh a air ride on a scale don't set the trailer brakes cause when the bags settle it will put a lot of pressure on the drives and will show you being heavy it will throw your weight off even though you're legal
Those trailers are so much better than our Wabash trailers. Rides better, as well as looks better, in my opinion. I hope Crete continues to buy more National trailers.
The Great Dane Trailers I used to have at my old job always had air ride on the trailer. I never noticed that it made a super big difference though in the ride. Probably for the freight it's much better but not necessarily for the driver. It can't hurt though for sure as far as the driver is concerned especially with these freightliners
Hey there! Kevin is a Company driver, so the truck belongs to the company. So we don’t really have any experience with purchasing a truck, and therefore can’t give any substantial advice on that. We have contemplated it, but have not done it. We’re glad that you enjoy our videos! Follow your dream! Thanks for riding with us, watching, and commenting!
Pull button vs handle slide tandems go back push button back in and lock as handle trailers. Or if happy at slide pull trailer brake and release it and that pops your pins without getting back out. Treat the button as the handle same concept
If you have a trailer hand brake, when you finish sliding, just push in your red brake knob, pull down the hand brake, and move truck in either direction to set pins. Pins will set either by releasing brakes, or by using the knob. Company I retired from in 2021 had a;most every trailer new enough to have the air pins. Spoils a fella quickly

Since the Kenworth ride so much better than the freightliners you would figure somebody at Freightliner would try to improve their driver's experience like the Kenworth Trucks !!!!!??!!!!!

I have hauled trailers like that for 15 years. Didn't know they are new.
New to us. And only one we’ve ever seen with Werner or Crete.
They're not even close to new
My new volvo has the release for the tandems and a sliding 5th wheel in the cab which my t680 didn't have

The switch is by the tandems, and Utility has been building trailers with air operated pins for many years. At least since 2010, if not earlier.

Go push in the tandem release button back at the tandems. Instead of having the tandem release bar you push the button where the bar usually is.
Nice. I had a problem one time with them by the time I figured it out I found a nail then waited for repair then ran out of hrs.. refer load
There's no button Kevin. Not yet, not in the cab
Kevin we need to talk… 15:05 to funny.
The advantage is the manual levers get crusty and rusty and reeeaally hard to operate. THAT'S the advantage of the air sliders
I used to load trailers seen them years ago
Next time push trailer air supply button in twice and it will engage the pins to go out.
All of Shaffer trailer have air slide
You don’t have to get out after u move the tandems just release the trailer brakes and it will automatically disengage.
YES
I-70 in Indiana
That has to be the worst highway I've ever driven on

I-70 from Utah across the Rockies into Denver is even worse. Bad road, curves, hills, and grooves from tire chains. Horrible road!

i do !

The knob for the pins won't pull unless your trailer brakes are set.
Thanks! Good to know. Nice safety feature.
Speaking of air-ride equipment did I notice that you don''t have air-ride on your cab, or did I miss it?
Are old trailers had air ride
Nice!
Where at in illinois
Are you driving a automatic or a shift jost wooc
How do you choose what holes to set your tandem?. Thanks. Happy trucking from NH
I found out anything around 35,000lbs..you can be in the 6th hole from the front
That top white area should of had the directions how to use it
Any time we shipped our jet engines all flatbed trailers had to be air ride. Been that way forever.
U just have to release trlr breaks and pins pop

Why are you sliding the tandems without knowing the weight and destination ??
My method is start 40ft mark scale and adjust as needed. Everyone has different methods and tips and tricks.
Because we know the destination and Kevin likes tandems forward as much as possible. 😃
