  • OAT is a 9-month to 1-year-old young man loves to play with friends, take a little rest, and then play some more! He is sweet, easy to be around, good natured and optimistic. OAT came to rescue with multiple injuries to his left hind leg. While awaiting a surgery date at UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital, OAT quickly learned to join his foster border collie mates to wrestle, herd, make his toys squeak, and run with the BC crowd. It was determined amputation would be the best course for OAT. OAT has recovered very well and shows no signs of a diminished enthusiasm for life. Click on OAT’S video link above to see what we mean. He confidently runs with the pack and has put on some healthy weight. OAT’s puppy play is also in full bloom - squeaky toys beware!
OAT weighs about 30 pounds, but he is still a growing boy. He has a medium coat with classic black & white border collie markings. Being a social dog, OAT would do well with a canine brother or sister as a playmate, plus a few squeaky toys (Wuba, Kong). He has been indifferent to the cat in his foster home. OAT is housebroken and has not as not had an accident in the house. He is also crate trained and does well riding in the car. OAT is looking for his forever home in which he can display and further express his already kind spirit and playful personality.
OAT is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to enquire about OAT, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.
OAT is being fostered in Granite Bay in Placer County, California.

Thank you so much for this clip, we just found out a few minutes ago that my little girl (6yr old Blue Heeler) is needing her leg amputated and my parents aren't sure if she will have a fulfilling life with only 3 legs, this dog gives me hope.

Thank you for posting this. Our 11 year old German shepherd is getting her left hind leg amputated Monday and our daughter is so concerned about how she will get around. She had the biggest smile when she saw this video and it made her feel better

Our dog had her rear left leg amputated a week ago due to osteosarcoma and while she's doing well, she seems much less energetic, which I'd totally understandable. Watching this video gives me hope that she will return to a fully normal and active life ❤️

@@northerncaliforniaborderco7887 She is doing much better now, thank you! It's been close to 2 months now and she has pretty much returned to her normal self! She has adjusted very well to the missing leg. Thank you again for the video--it definitely helped me feel better about the situation ❤

Our BC mix needs surgery for the fourth time on her back left leg because her previous owners accidentally ran over her when she was a puppy, and we are wondering if it’s time for us to give up on saving the leg or try one more time. We want her to have a good quality of life, full of running, jumping, and playing. I don’t want to let her down.

Thanks for the video! The vet said I should considering amputating my puppy’s back leg . I was wondering if she could sit and if she would still be able to play with other dogs since she loves the dog park. Watching your video gives me hope that she can and will do both!

He's running so well! I didn't think it was possible for a three legged dog to run, but they proved me wrong once again!! ☺️
