As for the train doors releasing on both sides when you arrived, these ČD coaches do support side-selective door release.
Either the actual locomotive didn't support it, or it was driver error.
That train is operated by PKP Intercity, Just it uses CD carriges, currently a Train fan. Greetings from Poland.
