  • Welcome to our tutorial on how to hit the perfect tweener, also known as the "hotdog" shot in tennis. In this video, we'll cover a series of drills designed to help you master this impressive trick shot in just five minutes. Trick shots are always a fun addition to your tennis repertoire, so let's dive in and enjoy the process!
    Introduction to the tweener shot:
The tweener, or hotdog shot, is a spectacular move where the player hits the ball between their legs while facing away from the net. This shot is not only a crowd pleaser but also a useful tool in situations where a lobbed ball forces you to chase it down quickly. Let's break down the steps and drills to perfect this shot.
    Understanding the Basics
Before we start with the drills, it's important to understand the basic mechanics of the tweener shot. The key is to make contact with the ball directly beneath your body while maintaining balance and control. You'll need to use a continental grip for optimal control and wrist snap.
    Drill 1: Catching the Ball
    1. Two bounce Catch: Start by catching the ball with your hitting hand after it bounces twice. This helps you get a feel for timing and positioning.
Stand with your body slightly bent and your hand ready to catch the ball.
Focus on getting your body over the ball and catching it directly beneath you.
    2. One bounce Catch: Once you're comfortable with the two-bounce catch, progress to catching the ball after one bounce.
This increases the difficulty and improves your reaction time and precision.
Drill 2: Finding the ball over your shoulder
An essential aspect of the tweener is being able to locate the ball while looking over your shoulder. This drill will help you develop that skill.
    1. Back to the ball: Stand with your back to the ball. A partner will call out when to turn around.
As soon as you hear the signal, turn quickly, find the ball, and catch it.
Drill 3: Simulating realistic lob situations
Now we'll make the drills more realistic by incorporating actual lobs.
    1. Following the lob: Have your partner lob the ball over you.
Track the ball over your head without taking your eyes off it.
Gauge how quickly you need to move to get in position and overtake the ball.
    Drill 4: Adding the racket
Once you've mastered the catching drills, it's time to use the racket.
    1. Static swing practice: Hold the racket with a continental grip and practice the tweener swing with a stationary ball.
Split step, turn, get over the ball, and snap your wrist through.
    2. Moving ball drill: Now practice with a ball moving towards you.
This drill is slightly easier as the ball is not running away from you.
Drill 5: Offensive and defensive tweeners
There are two main types of tweeners:
    1. Offensive tweener: Focus on hitting a winner by snapping your wrist hard with the ball directly beneath you.
    2. Defensive tweener: Aim to hit a lob to get back into the point. This requires you to fully overtake the ball and open the racket face slightly for more lift.
    Final Drill: Hand fed tweener
In this drill, you'll practice hitting the tweener after being lobbed with a hand feed.
    1. Watch and hit: Just like the catching drill, watch the ball go over you, catch up to it, and execute the tweener with a wrist snap.
    Tweener Challenge
Now for a fun challenge to wrap up our session: See how many tweeners you can hit out of 10 shots on a single court. Remember, consistency and control are key.
Thank you for joining us in this tutorial. We hope these drills help you master the tweener shot. As always, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more tennis tips and tricks. Enjoy practicing, and have fun impressing your friends with your new trick shot!
