I love this build but i jave a few questions Didnt the leafspring bow lose some power because of heating when you cut it? Is it possible to requench it?
Are you aware of the Balestrino? It was an Italian mini crossbow like this, but it had a built in cocking mechanism based on a small screw. That could be a good challenge for you in the future, your own personal take on that design
It was interesting to see but! Its biggest drawback was that only people with expensive and complete tools, along with talent and the right place, could do it ... so it was not entirely useful and practical... this was my opinion and i believe that, many people agree

For how short the draw is for medieval style crossbows the power is insane
That’s because medieval crossbows have very high draw weights which makes up for the short draw length

Not really, it is always under tension, and even when fully pulled, it is still holds pretty well
