Before retirement I was certified in MDOT soil identification. Cohesive soils (claylike material) needs to have the moisture applied and left to stand to gain moistue. If you spray it on it just sits there and runs off. If the water mixes with the silt it'll get rather slippery. The scientific name for this condition is "snotty".😀
