+AfroChic94 well actually it is a part of China in lots people's opinion so you kinda got to know both, since Hong Kong went on to became a colony of Britain due to the battle China lost on against Britain to sell drugs(opium) to China, and was forced to sign the unfair treaty of lending Hong Kong as a colony for 100 years. So technically, it's always been a piece of China, even tho lots of Hong Kong people nowadays rather claim their independence or some wants to be a part of Britain because they think they are more advanced and just better than the mainland lol...? Stuff I read on wiki and heard from friends

Are your grandparents very traditional? How do you maintain a good relationship with them and get them to understand your style? I always have to be conscious of how I dress around my grandma. I can't dress too unique or too edgy or she'll scold me for having a quirky sense of style.

Is it possible that Chinese people mostly speak better English than Japanese people?
And if that's true.. why?
Because Hong Kong is not China and Hong Kong was a British colony before
and our education system does require us to know quite a lot of English :)
I was surprised to find how little English Japanese people could speak when I visited Tokyo. I heard it's because English language classes are not required in the Japanese education system, but it is here in Taiwan. So if you only spoke English, you could get around here no problem (especially in Taipei). Hope this answered your question! :)
