I felt this 2nd part was weaker than the 1st, but you gave me food for thought! There's much beneath the surface

Great Analysis :) I'm enjoying watching your breakdown of each episode as I watch them. Dekalog is truly exceptional. I've seen the double life of Veronique and i have yet to see the three colors trilogy although they're next on the list.

Ben Grimes they are astounding, but what he does in Dekalog, no one in television has ever done.

There is also another connection between the 1st and the 2nd episode. In the second episode, the Doctor mentions that Dorota has accidentally killed his dog. And in the 1st episode the child observes the dead dog.

This "jam" is a very popular drink in Poland, often used for dinners. A lot of beautiful symbols here. I especially like how Dorota and doctor are opposites and how she eventually overcomes (I guess?) her initial dilemma - either baby with her lover or her husband. When one baby (from the previous film) dies, the other is on its way and that's how the life goes. Gosh, I hated Mrs. Basia - what a boring character used only as a plot point to get the doctor to speak! I'd rather have the housekeeper from episode 6 as his companion. That being said, his story was very tragic and Bardini played it so well.
I think that might be among the most effective uses of Artur Barciś as his a mute witness of doctor learning that Andrzej is getting worse, suggesting that test results aren't deciding factors in patient overcoming his illness. He's also seen by us (but again not by the characters) when Dorota visits her husband for the final time which leads to him getting better. That's when he hears water dropping on his bed for the final time, right? I guess reappareance of water symbol is a sign of troubles which fortunately for Andrzej went away.
Trivia: Aleksander Bardini (doctor) gave first big acting break to Krystyna Janda (Dorota) by casting her in television theater of "Three Sisters" with the other two being played by Joanna Szczepkowska (Janusz's wife in episode 3) and Ewa Ziętek (not in "Decalogue" but she played Bride in Andrzej Wajda's "The Wedding" which I greatly recommend). So they were a lot closer in private life than their on-screen characters.

Why do u assume that Andrzej knows that the baby is not his? It's never said anywhere in the episode or even implied imo. Also you said that what heals Andrzej is Dorotas decision on not to go throug with the abortion. But we clearly see from previous scene where the doctor examines cells from different times under the microscope and he is getting better! And that is before Dorotas decision not to do it.

My question: in that final scene, how does Andrzej know Dorota is pregnant? It does not follow that he would know she is pregnant. The film’s premise is that Dorota will abort the child if she knows Andrzej will live b/c she does not want him to know she’s been having an affair.

I was also surprised about it. I'd say he knew from the start and Dorota didn't realize it. Hence his illness as he couldn't cope with this situation and - as it was stated so well in the video - once she decided to be with him, he was able to recover and embrace the situation.

You could be onto something here. I figured the last scene was just a bit in the future but maybe not.
The first time we see dorota visiting her husband he wakes up right after she leaves. This gave me the impression he was faking being asleep

When Dorota visits the gynecologist and tells him she wants an abortion he says that it’s right at the last minute. So I think she passed the timeframe when she could get an abortion because her pregnancy was too far along.

Hi! Excellent to comment this master piece, I was looking someone else's and I was thinking we saw a different thing each, a lot of "my-own-thinking-not-based-in-anything-than-my-self" disgusting!. By the way I didn't found your dekalog 3, 4 analysis. Maybe you can please us with those! Greetings from Mexico!
