Viacom Logos from My 16mm Films (Part 1; 04/2018) | 16mm

- This is a compilation of every Viacom logo I owned on 16mm film as of April 2018. All of these transfers were achieved with my telecine unit, which I acquired in March of 2018. I have almost every variant of filmed Viacom logo, the lone exceptions being the colored variation of the Low Toned VoD, which I have yet to find.
I recently discovered the “V of Pinball” on one of my Phil Silvers 16mm prints, and that will be in a new video, coming soon!
These are pretty much how I remember the V of Doom when I used to see them on TV as a kid. Spooked the living daylights out of me back then. :D The one that just gets cut off midway was especially unnerving. Especially as the sound continued for a brief bit after the screen went white.
it’s like if the v of doom decided “aight screw this i’m out”

I’m pretty sure 3:30 is the one where he had to push on the film to keep it in the machine, he did upload one of the unsuccessful transfers

Nearly every CBS show from the '50s-'70s was syndicated by Viacom. It's almost impossible to find a print of a classic CBS show that doesn't have a Viacom logo!
travis7310 Except CBS has them all back now since the split from Viacom, plus some of the NBC and ABC libraries as well!
sd02231 You'll still a Viacom logo at the end of certain shows every once in a while. MeTV and Decades still show the V of Doom, V of Steel and the Wigga-Wigga logo.

_Lost in Space_ doesn't apply (owned by 20th Century-Fox/Disney), but I am unsure about _The Alvin Show_ these days.

Luke2505 TV yes it is. I can tell because it's purple and it's really shaky

TheVintageTVArchive I actually have a running Revere Projector from 1948! It uses 8 mm film but I found this rather cool as i am VERY interested in old logos and old things! Love your videos!

@@speggimani don't get logo kids,,, like sure the logos can be scary,,, but some of these kids are immature.. like i saw this kid repeatedly harassing MTN on a few cbs logo videos thinking the shows were fake.. mighty mouse aired in color in the Sixties and Seventies,,, it's far from fake.. i may be a fictional character (look at my profile for more on that) but i am GROUNDED IN REALITY..
Many of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons used the "Pinball" and "V of Doom" as seen on prints of "Josie and the Pussycats", "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space", "Banana Splits", "Dastardly Muttley and the Flying Machines", "Wacky Races", "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop", "The Harlem Globetrotters" and many more HB cartoons distributed by Viacom in the 1970's, along with an education short series called "The Most Important Person" which was also distributed by Viacom, and it was shown on WPIX-TV (channel 11) during the late 1970's and early 1980's when it was show during "Mighty Mouse".
Yes mighty mouse.. i wonder if space ghost had the v of doom i don't remember if the logos were on the world of super adventure package..
These are in almost broadcast quality! Nice. While I'm not freaked out by this logo, the one at 3:29 looked angry.
Forgot to upload the Beverly Hillbillies reel I had. Film was faded (red) and the regular VoD was at the end. Film was in a yellow canister with the Viacom name on it.
You wouldn’t believe how much trouble I had trying to capture that variant of the VoD. That’s the warped/damaged one from an old “Gunsmoke” film I had (which I threw out.) The capture in this compilation was my fourth time trying to transfer it, the other three times, the logo kept slipping from the film gate. I may upload one of those failed captures later today, it’s very similar to the capture you uploaded where your projector “ate” one of your Pinball logos on film.
I’m very proud of this unit, it was $1,300 well spent! Feels good to have my films transferred and look the way they were meant to be.
All of my Lucy films are in Viacom canisters. All original, too, original labels and all.
That’s how this telecine unit runs, I can’t do anything about it. It really doesn’t bother me at all.
Almost broadcast quality!? No!!
That Should Be Called V Of Rage.
Nice collection...
Also, you've yet to find the colored variation of the Low-toned "V of Doom".
Oh yes, forgot about that one, too!
Keep searching, you'll find them eventually...
It took me about 3 and a half years to find the Low Toned VoD, so I’m always hopeful.
the I Love Lucy one at 0:40?
Love watching these old 16mm films!! Any plans to upload more?? 🤞
As of now, I believe I have uploaded all 16mm content I have, but I will upload more as soon as I get more films. Glad you enjoy them!

I noticed the "V of Doom" logo at 2:53 looks a little different from the others, like the "A Viacom Presentation" text is larger and the "V" is not centered right.
I'm guessing it's a prototype or an animation error?

That's normal it's just the film stripe error

Peter john love2005 be there for logo oh
@TheVintageTVArchive what happened at 1:30? Is this used to be a variation of the V of Doom, or it is just a problem from your projector?
That variation of the VoD was already like that, the last 2 seconds were removed. It was like that when I received that particular film over 4 years ago.
So the film was a bit damaged?
In a way, yes. When I received the film, there wasn’t anything after the VoD logo, no leader, no nothing. The film ended after the VoD, and the logo itself is missing the last 2 seconds. That’s why the screen goes to white after the VoD, because that was the end of the film.
Well, at some point, somebody cut those last 2 secs. Like Dracula's title card.

How should these be restored?
Personally, I could take frame-by-frame pictures of all of the logos I have in my possession and restore them with Photoshop, but I don’t have the time to do that. Maybe one every month, if that.
AviSynth, probably.
use a wet gate if you have one.

why is viacom shit at taking care of their logos
It’s not the fault of Viacom, more or less the fault of cheap film stock. It’s possible the master print of the logo (presumably on 35mm) was really dirty itself, so many of the artifacts were transferred in the process; of course, 16mm scratches and debris can pile on.
