Every time I ever saw this opening, I wanted to live in Dallas. They made it look so exciting.
gspendlove its not a bad place. I lived there for a time. The call of my native Virginia couldn't be ignored though
It's nothing like this anymore. Dallas might as well be any big city ghetto, now :(
@@BinaryBard64 I think living in Dallas is bad, but if you live somewhere off that is still in the DFW area, it can be pretty good. I live in Dallas county but not in Dallas itself and it's pretty fine and nice.
Looking back this WAS the best theme. Give me goosebumps. So much power in this arrangement.
My Mom and I used to watch “Dallas” EVERY Friday night back in the late 70’s and WELL into the 80’s. Miss you Mom.
I miss TV intros. They really set the tone for a show and an epic theme really would get you pumped and excited and give the show an identity. Today's execs don't seem to get that...
So true. So much commercial time these days, one reason opening themes aren't like this anymore.
The best season by far. No nighttime drama touched it in the first few seasons. Best opening too
best opening of all the dallas seasons......lots of funk and twang!!!!...love it
This was my shit! Holy Shit!
When that intro came on, everybody in the house would go wild!
It's like they took the original theme and said 'Not disco enough, more wow-chicka'
This is how I became a Dallas cowboy fan! Back in 1980 I was 9 years old my mom use to watch this show called Dallas every Friday night, and in the beginning of the show you can see Texas stadium roll through during the intro and my mom said I saw a nice little jacket at sears just like that football stadium so when she got it for me I was automatically hooked! Randy White, Ed too tall Jones, Tony Dorset, Danny White, everson walls, and Roger starbuch! Man I was hooked!
Me too. I just played this after Dallas beat the Lions in the playoffs. This song and show is awesome.
Majestic intro. It adds to the show’s legacy
Dam this theme song STILL ROCKS to this day. ( and it was my mom's FAVOURITE show, she never missed an episode.)
Same with my mother. I was never interested in it as a kid, but the remake in 2012 drew me right in. I can now see what she liked about Dallas.
Love this theme song! When I was a kid my parents and I visited family in Dallas every Easter weekend, and every time we would make the drive up I-45, I would look up and see those iconic skyscrapers and play the 'Dallas' theme song in my head. Its now been at least seven years since I've been to the metroplex. I'd love to go back one day.
Came on right after The Dukes...
Now dem boys at CBS new what they were doing putting e'm back to back ;)
When i was little boy remember how we stand in the living room and watching it!
It was so great, because in that time US movies and tv series was something new
for us and now this video reminds me for so many things!!!
I'm 32 and been a DALLAS fan since I was a little girl. My mom, grandma, and I use to watch it in the 1980's when I was growing up.
I'm collecting the seasons on dvd and got my husband hooked on it. Bobby was my favorite character. I like Patrick Duffy. What a hunk!!
Missing this TV period. It was my teenage time. The best tv serie ever!!!!
best opening of all the dallas seasons...its got all the twang and majesty
I must agree totally with the lady or gent below who said that the folks who came up with these opening theme songs were simply genius. Amazing. Just think folks, this is something born out of nothing. Someone's great imagination and musical genius come to light. Another great one that comes to mind is the original Hawaii 5-0 theme. Simply awesome. These opening songs truly got you pumped up to watch the show, and in my opinion was at least part of the reason for the show's success.
It will be hard to top this. This may be the best ever.
"Alright!!! Kids, go to your room and shut the hell up!!! Dallas is starting and I want it quiet enough to hear a mosquito fart!" - My mother, at 7:59pm CST from 1984-1991! LMAO!!!
LOL!!! My mother tried that during the 78-79 season...but the next year let me watch because I would listen in anyways.
This show always added to the legend of the Dallas cowboys in my mind
The Von Erich’s exploded after the Cowboys lost the NFC Championship in’81.The rest is history.
Love the guitar riff at 0.11. Kinda reminds me of the guitar tabs from Donna Summer’s ‘Bad Girls’
in those days even soap operas intros were epics
govrom12
JR : Tell that "E. Bola" guy that if I ever see his ugly mug on SF property I'm gonna shoot his ass full of lead !
I don't understand something: Most of the people (including us, that's why we are in this video) miss the old shows, the old TV shows themes, the old movies. If we are such much people whose miss the tv golden years, then the producers and TV shows/Hollywood stuff must admit that (in this case) old rules and new sucks, so, why didn't they produce quality TV shows/movies again? ...just like a few years ago.
That guitar twang in the beginning there is anytime I come and visit.
Best of the Dallas intros IMO... the timpani at the beginning and end adds power... and that bass line!
The greatest prime time drama ever on TV. Dynasty could never achieve the fame Dallas had. Their theme was lame while Dallas' theme was spectacular! I love the Ewings!
That's not fair; Dynasty's theme was Romanesque, Dallas' was country-western. Each was outstanding. Not a single theme in the last 10 years to match them.
@@DerekWitt The Colbys had a good theme, too. That was really the only thing good the show had. That and Barbara Stanwyck.
This theme still captivates me
The two TV shows I watched regularly around this time were Dallas and Fraggle Rock. :D
All through the 80's almost every Friday Night I used to stay over at my Grandmothers and we would watch The Duke's of Hazzard, Dallas and Falcon Crest religiously every week! I miss those days. I was prob. the only 10 yr. old addicted to night time soaps! What a great decade the 80's were... so sad, nothing today compares. Today's shows don't hardly even have openings. One show just bleeds into the other :( Oh what I would do to go back to those times!
Michael H. Lauro II I live in Texas so this was well known to me my Grandpa Oscar watched Dallas Falcon Crest and In the Heat of the Night……I hope you will reply to this
I remember hearing this song everyday when I was very little. Mom would watch this after I watched reruns of Adam West Batman, when I was about to head to bed.
I love Dallas and I watched it with my Mum when she was a live and I was a teenage to.
I'm Black to the fifth power and I love Dallas and always will. Everything doesn't have to have a member of my race in it to be good.
this makes me think about my late grandmother on my mother side. She was crazy about Dallas n so was I as a kid. N I love the disco sound of the theme song
This was the intro that nearly 80% of all TV viewers saw the night that "Who Shot J.R.?" was revealed...Friday, November 21, 1980, 10pm. It was the premiere of Dallas' 1980-1981 season. I was one of those viewers.
By far season 3s opening theme is the best version...its got all the twang in it!!
I feel in love with the city of Dallas, the moment i watch this program and hear this song !
One of my favourite show ever.
I still get chills when I hear the theme song. So anthemic! Barbara Bel Geddes looks so young here. She looks like she barely aged at all from the time she starred in “Vertigo”.
Oh, how I loved that show!!!!!
reminds me of when things were going correct! haha.
the old bright image we had about America......
i watched this when i was 4yrs in early 1980's with my parents in Austria. never heard actors real voice.
anyway, have much fond memories with it
Same here. My whole family sat in front of the TV every Friday night and watched it together. That was when having 2 TVs in the house was a luxury.
Great theme by Jerry immel and this, in my view, is the ultimate version.
Never missed this show, we were hooked. Drove the guys I worked with nuts when JR was shot.
This song should have been our American National Anthem theme! Thumbs up if you agree.
i love those 70's &80's `productions
Always loved this intro in general and the signature tune in particular. The first, and also the most entertaining, soap opera of them all.
The BEST theme song for a show EVER!! Can still remember watching this show
every Friday night with my late mother. It was her favorite show. Still makes me
smile:-)
Quite simply, the best
Makes me think of Friday nights 9pm on CBS.
I lived in Dallas as a kid when this show was on in the early 80's. It was so awesome. I too remember watching with my mother. One of the few good memories of my childhood at that time. I also remember being downtown in Dallas once while they were filming and I caught a glimpse of Victoria Principal. That was sooo great!
Never missed an episode
Wow! I live in Dallas and after taking a look at this intro I now realize how much the city landscape has changed.
dlatguytx yes Texas Stadium was torn down and replaced by AT&T Stadium a.k.a. Jerry World…….. I live in Texas like you do I live in Beaumont near the Gulf Coast
Most recognizable theme on the planet EVER. I remember as a 10 yr old watching the intro and thinking it would be so cool to live in Dallas when I grew up. I've been in Big D now since 93 ha!
WB started that crazy numbering when they released the dvds...this season will always be S2 to me.
It was the first season I was 'allowed to WATCH' as a child...the first year I couldn't watch...but I always listened anyways while I "pretended" to be asleep...when Mom saw that I still knew the plot she gave up and let me watch...I started watching around the time JR found out John Ross was his child and I've been addicted ever since.
This is the version I remember most from when I was a kid. Those facial expressions from Bobby, Ray, Cliff and Lucy! I was a tad too young to fully appreciate the stunning Victoria Principal back then. (Wow!)
the swooping final shot of the gate and long driveway is awe-inspiring
amazing we had knots landing, dynasty, dallas -- 3 epic night time weekly soaps -- where has the time gone?
RIP Larry Hagman (J.R.Ewing) the best ever TV drama villain in in my opinion. He was brilliant at this role. Because he was the guy most people love to hate. Especially with his schemings & of course that greedy grin on his face! Loved him in Dallas & I Dream of Jeannie.
Friday nites dukes of hazard and Dallas must watch TV back in the dizzy
Fri nites Dallas and falcon crest. my aunt had lectures about the Dukes, and how my mother was "perpetuating violence".
I watched always Dallas when I had age enough to watch it after 7PM. I did not understand anything, but I still watched it.
OMG, my childhood!
Larry Hagman will sorely be missed,God bless his family and watch out Lord, here comes "JR"!
Watched Dallas every Friday with My mom. I have most of the seasons on DVD and can't wait until they bring the new series on.
The best soap ever, and listen to that bass line
Sung this song when I was younger and going through Dallas as a kid I would sing this song and my heart swelling with pride for being a TEXAN
Every time my family drives through Dallas, I like to play this song on my phone.
I loved this show and the intro, I remember watching the Who Shot JR episode, I was only 6 but I remember it like yesterday!
WOW, what a classic show and one of the best theme songs EVER! My momma has always been a huge fan of Dallas, and so have I, even though I was to young when it was still airing in 1980s, but I remember watching reruns on the soapnet channel, before they stopped showing it, I've seen enough rerun episodes to fall in love with show:)
I've always found Charlene so beautiful! She STILL is!
The music is so dramatic.
These people who come up with these opening theme songs are just plain genius.
This music has more energy and Funk for season 3. haha. Wauah waheah wahaw
Friday nights on CBS....
Dukes of Hazzard
Dallas
Knots Landing.
Thru the 1980-81 season, Dallas came on 10 pm eastern. The Incredible Hulk was at 8, Dukes of Hazzard at 9. They moved Dallas to 9 eastern, when they created Falcon Crest in 1981. Knots was always 10 pm eastern, Thursday nights.
I have been to Southfork Ranch in Dallas. it was awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!! this was the best show on tv EVER STILL TODAY THE BEST SHOW EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss this show
Loved watching this as a kid.
I love when their show the dallas cowboys stadium come on tv my football team.
Most of that farmland is probably paved over with tract housing by now. South fork Ranch is in the middle of Plano, population 250,000
The best programme of all time rip Larry hagman
omg one of the best tv themes
Thanks for having this here. Miss you J. R., Larry you really played the part so well.
I know right. True hero, legend.
every single one in Sweden were watching this show in the 80´s, cause there wasnt much else to see, we only had two tv channels.
Best tv show theme music ever!
I have the same memories!!! I did the exact thing. Friday nights, Dukes of hazard, followed by DAllas. All on CBS !! Well, im 43 now!!!
I literally have chills listenting to this theme song. Love it!! So many great memories of watching Dallas with my mom and dad on Friday nights. My goodness, they loved this show. They wouldnt miss it, but would fuss about how awful JR was. Makes me teary eyed, yet smiling all at the same time. Got to find this for my ringtone.
1:01 As a 4 year old kid back in 1982, I used to shout out "Jhirmack girl" whenever Victoria Principal came on.
I used to hear this every Friday night as a high school kid. Little did I know I would soon be living there.
Who remembers the man from atlantis 👍
New Jack Swing ... well I wasn't a real fan of the Duke boys or Falcon Crest but wonder woman the bionic woman and the 6 million dollar man yes lol & the incredible hulk... loved the end music when he walks away for the next weeks adventure 😧
Wasn't it Charlene or the dark haired woman he was having an affair with can't really remember but the don't make me angry was the incredible hulk... do I get a fist bump ✊
I remember Man of Atlantis. Just read that it was a short-lived series, though. :(
Wow - brings back memories from when i was a kid.
This is the first season I watched Dallas on CBS. in the last few episodes leading up to Who Shot JR. I watched the first two seasons in syndication.
This is my favorite into to the show, and the intro I think of when I think of this show
I've been watching the re-runs of the series here in the UK. First time I've seen the early years in full and what a show. It just doesn't age. Sure the fashions have changed but the stpries feel as exciting now as they must have back in the 80s.
Best season and best intro of all.
The first 20 seconds are the best part.
Whenever I hear this theme song I think of going to bed... I was not allowed to watch Dallas as a kid, but could hear it playing while the grown ups watched...lol
Wow...it's funny that you say that...because I had the exact same experience as a kid. I drifted off, with this theme playing in the other room...and always wondered what I was missing out on. LOL.
Growing up in London in the late seventies I had strict Nigerian parent's and even I was allowed to stay up and watch Dallas! Not the first or second season when it was shown during the weekday in the graveyard shift but later on when it was moved to 9 o'clock on a Saturday.
This and Simon and Simon were always coming on when I was going to bed also LOL. I don't think there will ever be another tv character hated as much as JR was! LOL
I remember my Mom watching it right after the Dukes Of Hazzard.
I watched the opening as a kid and the opening of Falcon crest before being sent to bed.
