IT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TIME SIGNATURE IN A TRANSPOSED PIECE EVER.
Shhhhh, don't scream, i'm listening the piece.
"what a strange person"
Found you on a different video but I gotta say this interpretation feels light and playful with the Ukulele and it brought an immediate smile to my face. Great job!

*being raised on classical music i absolutely love this...my mom played the ukulele and i know she would have loved this as well*

Magnifique et inspirant. Merci pour ce partage.
Thanks for listening!
Really brilliant. A wonderful arrangement and beautifully played.
Thank You! much appreciated
This is so clean amazing job
Thank you! Cheers!
Holy.... how does someone acquire such mastery? I recently bought my first uke, I want to play a string instrument and it seemed like the best place for me to start. If I practice everyday for a couple of hours, I might be able to do a youtube video like this in 30 years! Simply amazing.
Thanks! just keep on practicing....
Wow amazing. That's how it's done. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Wow! How beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow, just beyond my wildest imagination. I am sure Bach would have been proud of you.
thanks Thomas! that's a nice thing to say
Wonderful! What a perfect performance...
Thanks for that!
Going down a rabbit hole tonight listening to your music. I have to say, I would never have thought to put Bach and Ukulele in the same sentence before this. :)
John - thanks for listening in the rabbit hole...
That is simply gorgeous. Thank you!
Hi Gertjan,
Thanks for the comment....glad you like the music!
best,
Dan
Hi Dan, thanks for replying. I like the music, obviously, but your playing and interpretation is what makes it interesting. I invite you to have a look at my channel; the size of the instruments we play is just slightly different, yet I think, equally complicated :-)
.....just slightly different size! Your playing is on a grand scale and I salute your
musicianship on the king of instruments.
Thank you dear sir!
Oh my soul! SLOWWWWW down! Teach us how to do this with our own instruments!! This is gorgeous!
Thanks Emily! for transcribing most material I've used devices that slow down the music to
half-speed (and in between). I'd highly recommend getting one if you don't have such a machine. :)
Wonderful work! Very inspiring!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is amazing!!
Thank you Sarah! Daniel
this is amazing!
A great piece of music, which I occaisionally play on mandocello (or sometimes mandolin). This performance really reminds me that I need to practice more!
Thanks Kevin -- keep playing!
great! I want to learn this so much!
Thank You! Daniel
Beautiful !
Ewa -Thank you! Cheers!
Lovely. That must be a very nice ukulele to have such beautiful tone.
Hi Joseph,
Thanks! I decided to acquire a top-end instrument for my first ukulele -- no messing around with the cheapo models.
There wasn't much to choose from in my location (Twin Cities) so I lucked out with getting a stellar Kamaka sight- unseen
from eBay.
I always enjoy hearing you play, hope all is well!
Thanks for listening
You've earned a sub Sir.
Uow! I’m from Brazil and I loved the video! Congrats 🥰
Thanks Rafaelly! glad you liked it
I love this, too, as do most of the listners, here. Your version with ukulele has a lightness to it - a preludium-feeling - that cello doesn't (can't?) offer. Thanks for your post.
Hi Howard!
Thanks for the comment. I agree about the lightness the ukulele offers, although sometimes I wish it
had more access to the lower end and all the volume that a cello is capable of producing.
Maybe you'd want to think about spanning some lower "drone"-strings which would reverberate while playing, giving you the depth you wish.
Hmmm...maybe a double-neck uke-a-tar. Some luthier has probably tried a guitar-uke hybrid instrument.
Yoo-hoo out there! anybody made one?
so beautiful ! thanks for sharing..
Thank you! Cheers!
Bravo! This is the best performance of this prelude on a ukulele that I have heard! Perfect execution, perfect tempo, and wonderful, clear tone. This is what I have been looking for to emulate. Your left and right hand positions are what I consider correct. I think it is only possible with a strap such as you use. The low G tuning is also perfect for this piece. Wonderful job!
David - Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate your comment... I have the ukulele tuned in 5ths, like a cello (or violin)
@@danbluedeerwhat is your tuning exactly if I might ask
Wonderful, Dan. Classic FM out of London UK just put this on my Facebook feed as a "Suggested For You" viewing. Anytime I now hear or view any of your playing, I think of John. Take Care, ~~ j.c.
Thanks for listening j.c. gotta love those algorithms!
aH so refreshing to see this infamous piece played on another instrument!!
Thanks! it is quite a famous (or infamous) piece
Thanks for this, sir! Im really glad to hear this magic thing. I have a ukelele too, this inspirate me to learn more about it.
Wonderful! there's a lot more under the ukulele playlist
This is amazing!!! I am currently trying to learn this on the ukulele. Definitely will not get anywhere close to this level, but you have to start somewhere.
Hi Tom,
This is not a very easy piece to perform, but certainly worth the effort. It became a much easier matter when I tuned the ukulele in fifths. (see comment below this) Thanks for the comment, Daniel
He got to this level by practicing, you can do it too
After listening to this many many times I am trying this out too, but I’m having trouble locating the notes between .29 and .31 !
@@bexmk4904 just look up the original notes for the cello suite
Fantastic!!
Thanks!
Glorious!
Thanks Jeff!
Woah! I'd love to learn how to play this beautiful masterpiece.
all it takes is several thousand hours of practice. (it's worth it, though)
danbluedeer wow, thousands hours! That’s a lot of work.
this is very beautiful
Thank You Dr. Durga!
Finding your channel just made my day :)
glad I could help! Daniel
Thanks.
This is incredible, dare I say I think I actually prefer it on the ukulele to the cello! And I am a big fan of cellos, so that's not a frivolous comment!! You play it so smoothly as well and without any hesitation, it would take me months to learn to play that and it wouldn't be a patch on your playing, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks Mr. B ... I appreciate your comment!
Wow you do an amazing job! Your brother attends our Church here in Northern Maine. I just got a baritone ukulele from my Uncle who passed away. I've been trying to play each day. I am a guitar player normally, but am really enjoying the Ukulele. Blessings in Christ to you Sir.
Thanks for the comment...consider yourself fortunate if you have a good baritone uke. I've often thought of acquiring one, but the tenors seem to fit my needs (and my spouse keeps talking about down-sizing- too much stuff around here.)
@@danbluedeer Thank you Sir, you are a very talented musician.
Esa música es una delicia para mis oídos ¡hermosa!
Thanks!
this is amazinggg 😍
Thank You!
Just awesome and something to aspire to :)
Thanks for listening Chrismofer!
Wonderful!
Thanks Brennan! Daniel
Bravissimo!!!! 💗💗💗💗💗
thanks!
😲😲😲😲😲😲 beautiful ❤️
I wanna learn now
Aren - You can do it!
I've wanted to get a tenor uke and tune it in 5ths for some time and for this very reason lol. I think you've finally sold me on it 😄
Thanks Mackenly -- don't be afraid to make up your own set of strings - I use guitar and lute strings as well as ones for uke
Before listening I didn't think this would work. I was wrong: every note sounds clear as a bell and does full justice to the piece.
Thanks Phillip - that's nice to hear!
wow, this is just absolutely beautiful
😁
Thank you! Cheers!
Oh man that was great, im new with the ukulele and want to play classical music in the worst way, i just love it, thanks for posting 👍🏆.
Conger - thanks for the comment!
Splendiferous!
Thanks Steve!
Masterfully played, Sir👏
Thanks!
Wonderful.
Thank You Russell! /Daniel
WOW que belleza de arreglo 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
This is so lovely - pure and articulate. Wow.
I came here after watching Alisa Weilerstein's deconstruction of the prelude for Vox. I was looking at transcribing this myself so thanks the comments regarding the violin/banjo etc. transcriptions - that will save me a lot of time. I had contemplated tuning in 5ths like the cello and again, you've already used that idea. If my ear is right your tuning is Eb, Bb, F, C and you're playing this up a minor 3rd (plus an octave displacement). I've been working on transcribing some of the themes from In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin for 2 ukuleles and I think I might use different tunings for each ukulele to solve some of the range problems.
Thank You Richard! I appreciate your comments. I'd like to hear the Borodin when you finish.
There was a comment I received today that mentioned Mel Bay has a book of Bach's cello and violin works for mandolin. I'm going to check that out. / daniel
OK...I just found the 2 books by Daniel Sellman on Amazon with standard notation and tab. One book is of the 6 cello suites and the other has the Sonatas and Partitas. (wish I would have found these years ago) - Daniel
@@danbluedeer danbluedeer Oh so cool. I'll have a look. I wish there was a way to private message you without it being public. I have an arrangement of "Lark in the Clear Air" that I have put on Dropbox at www.dropbox.com/s/8ebw7b5yxnkldcn/Lark%20in%20the%20Clear%20Air.pdf?dl=0 for the next day or so for you to download and take a look at. This is for my wife who is MUCH more accomplished at ukulele than I am.
Thank you! I am new to Ukulele and just beginning! I dont know how to read music yet. Your playing is inspiring me to learn!
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks Serena --learning to read music and tab are important but so is watching someone play well and imitating what they do... then you can make it your own style.
@@danbluedeer Thank you! I know music study is a fantastic journey that never ends. Thank you for sharing!
I want to get serious with my ukulele skills, as a favor to myself. I realized lately the calming power of playing music. Not just as a creative hobby but something that brings joy. I would like to get into classical music renditions done in ukulele. Kind sir, please tell how I can acquire tabs for practice.
Thanks for the comment! I would suggest reading through the other comments until
you find something about tuning your uke in 5ths and a book by Rob MacKillop
Very sweet!!! 👏😍❤
Lays - You are so kind
An absolute delight !... I can't imagine what it would sound like in campanella style !
thanks! I found that tuning in 5ths and playing off the cello score gave the best result in this case
@@danbluedeer It was indeed an amazing interpretation ! I'm actually blown away in how many different ways we can play this piece. I'm actually digging the campanella style, but it is extremely non-intuitive, lol. Maybe I should give 5th tuning a try ?... All what I have heard so far tuned in this way sounded down right amazing, so I must give a closed look at it. Thanks for your answer ! 🙂
amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing!!! I've been looking for some awesome classical ukelele like this
Hi Dani,
Thanks! I'm glad you like it.
Do you have tabs available for your ukelele classics by any chance? I'd love to be able to play some Bach :P
Dani,
Sorry, I don't have tabs. In order to play the cello suites and violin works of Bach I've tuned the uke in
5ths, which gets a bit complicated because you have to experiment with different string gauges.
If you read some of the other posts here you can find out more...there is a book with tabs of cello suites 1-3 for tenor banjo which is tuned in 5ths. You could read from that if you get the uke set up in 5ths.
Cool, thanks a lot :) I'll look into it, it might be in interesting experiment.
Been listening to your stuff on Spotify, I absolutely love it.
It's worth the effort because the tuning in 5ths extends the range of the ukulele so that all
of the cello (and violin) notes are available. Ukes are pretty inexpensive compared to guitars so
why not get another one and leave it strung in 5ths? :>)
