I have lots of Cornerstone videos but this is the only Chevelle one. They put on a really impressive show and ended up getting really popular soon after this, which was well deserved.
Well let me thank you personally for this upload cause after listening to this a BUNCH of times, this is probably one of my favorite Chevelle songs, riffs melodies and beats ever. And that’s saying something from a huge Chevelle fan. Shame they never recorded this as a song (trust me I’ve looked lol). So yeah, thanks for this “lost gem”
This video just proves that Pete has always been such a talented and underrated guitarist. Even at a young age the way he plays guitar is tough to do while singing at the same time. Not to mention their sound is incredible. I don’t care what people say, they are very different from Tool and all those other grunge/hard rock bands from the 90’s and they’re way better. They even too nirvana for me. I’d even go as far to say Sam is an even better drummer than Dave Grohl tbh. Just an opinion. Some of his parts are super well put together, vs Dave who was really just a hard hitter with a few flashy parts here and there
for real dude. I listen to tool and chevelle and do not get the comparisons at all. Sam Maynard sing the same pitch, but to anybody who has listened to both, they are very easy to distinguish and unique from each other. Guitar sounds and song writing are very diffferent. Tool's songs are all super long. Chevelle's songs seem simpler, shorter, and a little more radio friendly.
Holy crap! That really is Chevelle before they hit it big. This is the first footage like this I've seen. Pete hasn't changed his playing style much at all lol. Awesome video.
God damn Pete looks young. Especially compared to Self Destructor video lol. Then again I was 10 when they performed this anyways. One of the most underrated and underappreciated bands ever imo.
Listening to Chevelle my entire life, this is such an awesome and wholesome video to witness. Knowing the sound and style of Chevelle was original from the Genesis of Pete's career. They haven't changed a bit.
They’re naturals. Unbelievable how great they sound here considering their age and experience they had at this time. You could tell instantly they were going to make it big
I wish the whole song was recorded. The song actually longer than this video, but oh well great footage nonetheless. Catches a good glimpse of young chevelle
I recived one of those demos at a. BLEACH and Miss Angie concert. I swear it was Pete a Joe in those hoodies playing guitar for Miss Angie back then . Lol Point # 1 baby !
I knew they started off as a Christian band, Point #1 was on Steve Taylor's label. I did NOT know that he used an Ibanez, a lot like my first guitar (RG550)!
Pete reminds me of Chris Evans in the 1st Captain America movie. Like, we all see him now as 2024 facial features but he's put on a skinny young body lol. (This comment is all in good taste, if Chevelle fans know what I mean...)
Yep. I think Chevelle thought they were too important to play Cornerstone anymore after they got popular. Plus, Pete had said he never intended for Chevelle to get airplay in the Christian market.
Our former youth pastor was against them being "rock stars" and really played with their mind. So I think Pete was trying to please him by signing up with a Christian label but then it went bad and Steve Albini wanted make an album with them (he made Nirvanas first album).
Back when Chevelle was three brothers and played at Christian concerts. They are so still trying to separate themselves from the squint record label Pete drops F bombs in concert constantly. This song was great though.
Yeah he’s said that they were “accidentally” put on a Christian label that sold their albums in Christian bookstores. And here they are at Cornerstone. Why can’t bands just stand up for what they believe in and not give a shite what people think. Weird
+mike mahon "Build" from the basement tapes. There's an even older recording from '95 with unreleased tracks. I'll send those if you want along with "The Blue Album" stuff that came out before Point #1.
@@Curmudgeon5462 I know this comment is 4 years old, but I'm taking a shot here... could you send me that older recording from '95 you're talking about? My email is thecucuzza@yahoo.com Hope to hear from you!
Man this is back when Christian music was still going hard. Now, it’s grown up and it’s all marketed to moms that drink coffee with her friends complaining about how much home schooling cost.

Wow. I've only heard them when they hit it big. Had no idea they were a "Cornerstone" band.

The quality of this video for 1998 is stunning. Amazing audio
Before Pete could afford a Paul Reed Smith but Ibanez is just as good!
P.S. Pete looks like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber.

Haha yea Dave is not even that good lol, Sam's better
Dave is a good drummer, but I completely agree with this. Sam is definitely better.

+Trinity Bingham Yeah no shit right? He always played the balls out that fret board
He gives it hell \m/
Damn this is years before I ever heard them but they're rocking out with the classic Chevelle sound
it's so crazy how high on the neck he strums his guitar
Tool3vans I'm glad somebody else noticed.
I miss those incredible days!
Love This. Love Chevelle
This song has an early Grammatrain vibe to it
Agreed
So surreal seeing these kids grow up with me. Nothing has changed ever, with the performance, quality, content, nothing! Love that we have them still
God damn Pete looks young. Especially compared to Self Destructor video lol. Then again I was 10 when they performed this anyways. One of the most underrated and underappreciated bands ever imo.
Build! Yea! I love this song!

Thanks for sharing this. Wow they look like their 16 they age really good.
Same thing I thought
Nice find. He looks so young. It's hard to believe that him. 🤣🤔
. I'm impressed. Very nice.
Thank you so much for uploading this! What a rare gem
Love seeing the old stuff!

I was at this show. So good!
Pete was only 20 in this video. Holy shit.
looks 16 at most...
No he was 17
@@Horriplex 22 actually.
He was born in 1976, and this is in 1998 so it’s simple math. How tf do you get 17 years old from that?
Pete was 22, still very young, this was when they started playing more venue shows then going pretty big after Point #1
I recived one of those demos at a. BLEACH and Miss Angie concert.
I swear it was Pete a Joe in those hoodies playing guitar for Miss Angie back then .
Lol
Point # 1 baby !
This is so awesome !
I have searched a long time for old chevelle footages
I love this. I really appreciate you uploading it.
omg you can hear him so clearly and look at that baby hair awwwwhjsdsljd!
I knew they started off as a Christian band, Point #1 was on Steve Taylor's label. I did NOT know that he used an Ibanez, a lot like my first guitar (RG550)!
Awesome
aussie alternative rock artist karen mathison was recording her 5th album in 1998 she put it out in may 1999
Greatest band ever
Pete doesn't even play PRS anymore as much. he plays custom made fenders
Tool3vans looks more like an ibanez
The Last Knight this video is from the 90s, a few months before he got his famous prs custom 22.
Pete reminds me of Chris Evans in the 1st Captain America movie. Like, we all see him now as 2024 facial features but he's put on a skinny young body lol. (This comment is all in good taste, if Chevelle fans know what I mean...)
Awesome!
Yep. I think Chevelle thought they were too important to play Cornerstone anymore after they got popular. Plus, Pete had said he never intended for Chevelle to get airplay in the Christian market.
i guess if they never intended that then maybe not release your album on a Christian label.
Jason Bohl Might have been the only one willing to put it out at the time. It worked for them.
Our former youth pastor was against them being "rock stars" and really played with their mind. So I think Pete was trying to please him by signing up with a Christian label but then it went bad and Steve Albini wanted make an album with them (he made Nirvanas first album).
Chevelle was too talented for Cornerstone. Pete oozes Rock Star naturally. You would have to meet him in person to know what I'm talking about.
Young as fuck holy shit haha
This is amazing! Do you have more videos?

What is this song called? I've never heard their blue EP so I don't know anything before Point #1
Its called build. Just look up chevelle basement tapes
Why does pete strum so damn high on the neck
Does anyone know what Ibanez guitar model is that? I'm looking to get an Ibanez myself and would really appreciate it. Thank you.
A curiosity: that blue Ibanez is the same that he used in Rock My Ass, but he painted it with black!
1:27 - 1:31 is so cute
What song is that??
Damn he looks 16, where was this at?
Anyone know the name of the song?
