    Watched lots of a6700 videos but you really illuminated important areas of weakness and potential deal breakers for example - the EVF being so small that you need to move around to see all corners of the screen, I didn't realize that. Also, from reading the comments you are attracting and intelligent audience that can appreciate your thoughts and perspective.

    Hello! Iam from Rio de janeiro Brasil. I have a question for you about heating this camera. I saw some reviews from videographers and photographers saying that this camera overheats when recording in 4K. My question is: does it also heat up when recording Full HD video?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  9 місяців тому +2

      I never ran a stress test in 1080, but I think you'd be fine to record for the duration of a full battery with no problem. I did test the a6700 in 4K 8-bit, 60mbps and with those settings I was able to record a full battery with no heat warning at all.
      If you want a recommendation, lower the 4K settings and don't record in 1080. The 1080 in this camera does not look good

    I would really like to see Sony release a more video focused apsc camera similar to the a6700, but not cinema line professional like the fx30. We need something in-between. The closest is probably the zv-e10, but it's already outdated. The only option for video focused is the zv-e1. But for someone that's already invested in apsc lenses, thats not a viable upgrade since it's full frame. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the zv-e1, but it would be way too expensive to upgrade to since I'd need to get all new full frame lenses. The fact that the a6700 is not really video first and has all these issues makes me hesitant to upgrade from my a6600.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +2

      Aside from the cooling issues and micro HDMI, the a6700 is quite a capable video camera. If you really need to record long clips in 4K, you can lower the quality settings. I think the only ways a Sony apsc camera won’t have cooling issues if a.) it has a fan or b.) it’s much lower resolution

    I thought you were talking about poor matrix stabilization and the lack of a joystick. I was disappointed at the premiere of this camera, because I have an a6100 and I wanted to buy something better, and in this case the only option left is the Fuji XH2. I would prefer the Canon r7, but it doesn't have native lenses. Recently, there has been poor progress in improving new versions of cameras.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +3

      What is matrix stabilization? I'm not much of a photographer so the lack of a joystick hasn't really bothered me. On my other Sony cameras, I mostly use it as a method of navigating the menus... though, it is one fewer function button.

    i dislike how EVERYONE talking about sony's E mount STILLS CAMERAS is only reviewing the video aspects of them and complaining they're not better than the dedicated video cameras. Instead of focusing on the shutter delay, the rolling shutter, the exposition quality, the eye af, the sensor stabilization etc yall focus on how much it overheats after an hour of 4k 60fps recording, god damn it's a nuclear reactor on a smartphone sized brick made of SEALED MAGNESIUM.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  27 днів тому

      Maybe go to the channels that focus on photography... I also specifically mention that it's a powerful camera in a tiny body and that overheating in video should be expected. And Sony markets it as a HYBRID camera

    • @kingghidorah8106
      @kingghidorah8106 27 днів тому

      @@PhillipRPeck yes, but i can't get any glimpse of whose channels is more focused on photography. As I stated before among my photography friends, Sony's Alpha E mount cameras are being treated like glorified video cameras and Sony is really leaning into making them just _that_ instead of actual stills cameras and that's because more and more people are becoming videographers as photography is slowly getting forgotten. This is why we're having the absolute bummers that are the A7C's hybrid only shooting with a single curtain (which means all your images are going to come with some rolling shutter) or the a6700 still limited to 1/4000 mechanical shutter. What are we going to do with these birds and jet fighters? Or insect wings? Or wide aperture lenses? All my lenses are f2.8-1.4 full frame Minolta mount and i'm 100 percent sure there is more people out there with minolta mount lenses willing to upgrade than people that already upgraded from a previous E mount camera.
      I really want the A6700 but the only real option i have left is the A99II which is like an A7RM3 with a better screen ergonomy, but Sony made only 100 of them which are in god awful condition already. The A7m4 would be the next option with LA-EA5.

      @@kingghidorah8106 What about a used a7RII or a7RIII? Those are still beastly photo cameras

    • @kingghidorah8106
      @kingghidorah8106 27 днів тому

      @@PhillipRPeck oh yeah! I had an enlightenment moment when I saw that the A7R3 was CHEAPER than the A6700 but the major detriment was that the LA-EA5 adapter is NOT compatible with the A7R3, only the EA4 which I have yet to investigate if it can use the camera's AF at the same time like the SLT A99II does, combining the AF sensor with the autofocus points of the imaging sensor.
      I really want the A99II, it's so beautiful it hurts. And it's just a smaller A77M2 which is the camera I've been rocking for 8 years.

    Great video! would love to see that overheating deep dive test you were mentioning.. and now I’m curious if the update actually helps or not because my a6700 ended up overheating on me during a wedding ceremony (suuuper lame). I was shooting 4k 60p in more or less short clips at a time, on a gimbal the entire time, it was a hot day (maybe like 85F), and it only lasted for about 50min until the heat warning sign came on and 10 sec later, it turned off. But, to my fault, I had the brightness set to sunny weather so I’m sure that was a huge factor, and I could've shut the camera off when not recording rather than leaving it on the whole time. In my experience it performed decent considering I pushed it to its max, I just now know I can't rely on it in a situation like that. Other than that I love the camera lol
    And fyi I had heating temp set to high and the flip screen open.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому

      Thanks for that info. There are so many variables that you have to account for regarding overheating, but your use case is exactly the kind of normal, professional scenario that people need to be aware of with this camera.
      I've had it overheat in 4K120 doing pretty much what you described--short, intermittent clips. But I turned it off between shots as I could tell it was already getting super hot within about 20 minutes. And it still overheated

    I have here an used a7iv and this a6700 on my desk. I have to return one to Amazon and I'm still unsure. I think I'll go with the a6700 as I'm used to apsc (I'm upgrading from a a6500) and the crop factor will probably help a bit for wildlife/birds.
    Also the AF seems extremely snap on for animals. One step above the a7iv.
    I'm just worried about the low light perfs and the dynamic range capabilities. I got a little taste of a7iv and it makes a difference... 😟
    Anyways. Cool video thanks. 🙂

      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, tough one. Both great and very similar in a lot of ways. If it helps, I sold my a7IV in favor of the FX30, but video is much more important to me than photo so may not be as applicable to your needs.
      I've been loving the a6700 as a photo camera though. I love the compact form factor and the extremely fast, precise, and psychic (?) autofocus. I definitely think the a7IV edges it out in absolute image quality, but for my needs, it doesn't matter

  • @matheusfersi062

    the main thing about the a6700 is: She don't do almost anything better than a Fujifilm xt4 from 2021, the IBIS from sony still the same as it was in the old fellow a6500 in a age wich panasonic still dominating, his HDMI recording are too weak for the ones who wants to rig it out with a atomos ninja (in the xt4 you can shoot a prores). The screen is worst too... Its not a bad camera, but there's nothing ''really new'' and people superstimate sony equips. Oh, and have to mention, this thing have only one sd card!!! The good in this body is: S-LOG3, AF. Nothing really more than this, and i think no one will use 4k 120 profissionally

If they changed it and gave it that 11fps in photo mode the fx30 would be the camera to get. Thats the only reason i would be looking at the a6700 instead. Other than that the fx30 is better in almost every way

    second point makes no sense because the rolling shutter is from 24-60p exactly the same (16ms) and with 120fps even faster (8ms). I swear youtuber don't even bother to check facts that are widely available.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +1

      The rolling shutter in 4K 60 is clearly visually worse than 4K 24 regardless of what the specs say. In my experience, the 4K 120 looks worse in terms of camera movement than 4K 24, but I did not show a good example of this in the video. So definitely my fault for not providing good evidence for what I'm saying.
      I'm not an engineer, but perhaps motion artifacts are more obvious in higher frame rates because there are so many more frames relative to the readout speed

    The sd card location was very useful for gimbal users so you won't be unmounting the camera when sd is full. Good video man. The card slot on the a6000 is a total pita. The card slot, the flip out screen, stabilization for video and autofocus system were the reasons I upgraded to the a6700. I'll be using my a6700 for video/vlogging and stills, and still cary my a6000 for stills until I can afford another a6700. Mostly nature, bird and some product photography is what I like to do.

    Haha, great intro sentence, keep 'em coming! Good points and I agree to 100% with all five and those additional ones. I've got my A6700 now and it gave me some 30-45 mins over HDMI and with Auto Framing enabled. I couldn't use 4K but 1080 with HDMI so I'll still have to explore the settings if I missed something. I can use 4K 25p HDMI out on my A6400 without problems. But I've also ordered the Ulanzi fan that's to be mounted in the back of the camera and prevent overheating, at least it should give us those additional minutes to make it worthwhile the money spent. I have 30 days to return it if it won't work.
    In the meantime I've explored the photo side of this camera and it's impressive with that AI Autofocus and the ease of use of all menus, settings….

    As an international traveler size and weight are huge issues because I don't check my bags and use a tiny sling bag. I have been using the A6000 series cameras for about 10 years. They've gone with me over the world, been dropped onto concrete without busting, and survived sweaty hands and less than ideal weather. I pair this small camera body with two amazing zooms: Sony a70-350mm and the Sony 18-135mm; also the Sigma 30mm for night time shooting. I just purchased the A6700 which contains remarkable improvements to the A6000 line. I plan on starting to shoot documentaries wherein video will be much more important. No, this is not a professional video camera! But, for enthusiasts, absolutely, beautiful videos can be made! With aftermarket fans being sold to cool the internal temp, and by shooting at 1080p (4k is SO overrated) overheating is mitigated. Size and weight and this camera's beautiful photo and video potential are just amazing. To the reviewer, thanks for this video, and I see from your comment that you actually purchased the camera!

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +4

      All great points. I got mine with the 18-135 lens and am pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I'm not sure that I agree that 4K is overrated, because the 1080 coming out of these high res sensors isn't that great. I'd rather shoot in 4K then work in a 1080 timeline. You'll get much better image quality that way. But I'm still curious to find out if shooting at lower bit rates and lower color subsampling (but still 4K) will help overheating.
      I definitely have to buy or rent all the cameras I feature in my videos. I'm not at the point where companies are lending me cameras
