Are lyrics truly better than great riffs and great songwriter?
Well, no, of course not. However, great lyrics are necessary in order to connect with as many people as possible.
While great riffs create amazing stank faces, truly memorable songs have great lyrics, memorably rhythmic phrasing, and are just “the whole package.”
So, no, calm down with your emotional reaction on the images and titles used for this video, it’s not that riffs don’t matter. But lyrics are just as important and, in some cases, do actually matter more.

My journey was opposite, I started off singing everything! I love the words and the melodies and harmonies, but when it comes to writing, I'm all instruments. I'd need to focus and go through training like this to even know where to start on my own! Thanks guys for sharing!!
This is also why being in a group of musicians, specifically with a frontman who can sing, and folks who can write lyrics is fantastic!
Listen to these 2 bands new albums. Cicona - Animalarium and Lampr3a - Ense.. both are new instrumental metal albums. prepare to have your ears blown off and start headbanging. Lampr3a have the best drummer i have found since Alex Rudinger. they have a Chapman stick bassist. my favorite band i have found in years. they both from Spain i believe.
People pretty much connect with different parts of a song
For example I’m pretty much on Scott’s side: I connect with the music, the rhythm the melodies and that makes it memorable for me
My wife would always be on the lyrics side: the story being told is very important to her

As a guitar player first, and a singer dead last - while I do enjoy a well written lyrical verse, the riff will bring me there 10/10 times.
Who needs to write lyrics now? 😂😂 I can write riffs, bass, and program drums. Chat GPT can write the song titles, album title, and lyrics. 😂😂😂😂
