@@basilmarasco1975 Absolutely that was a reaction of disbelief/shock! I will forever celebrate and thank the makers of the movie for painting a Regal image of us Black men. Sidney set out to help this young lady become and not take advantage of her. I pushed hundreds of brothers over the years to watch this movie and how we should aspire to do like Sidney. Aspire to uplift others instead of feasting on others miseries. "Save the last dance" had a touch of Patch of Blue but this young brother had some Predatory tendencies. Sidney on the other hand was a Knight in shining armor 100%.
That kiss haunted her dear friend! became the kiss of death as Black ball became her reality. America wasn't quite ready for such expressions, and she paid the price.
Elizabeth Hartman was so brilliant in this film. And Sydney Poitier was, too. They were great together.
This movie was definitely ahead of its time
It kills me every time I see this, and Poitier's reaction is so mature and restrained. Wow.
Restrained, yes. Actually he is horrified at what Selena has been through.

@@JamesMena-ym9vf Well-said---and thank you for it. Dignified empathy is a rare and crucial thing in these violent, bitter times.....
This girl character was so sweet and innocent - it made me cry that she was so mistreated and starved for love
My magnificent one ❤️
RIP Sydney Poitier! i had no idea he passed a couple weeks ago
Heartbreaking that this poor actress had such person difficulties and a tragic ending. RIP 🙏

@@JamesMena-ym9vfYou’re joking right?
Back when they really made movies !!!
"I've been done over ... " Omg.
OMG indeed, thus Sidney's reaction when she asked "are u still there"
The sister performed for us but America wasn't quite ready.
Lord Sydney’s face when she says she’s been done over he’s like wtf 😮
I subbed. Thanks, dude.
What can I see the full movie?
I’m shocked you could even show or imply rape in films back then. That was disturbing!
It was disturbing but it was reality. It was all part of the characters traumatic and abusive upbringing.
