Thank you for this video! It is really informative, helpful, and interesting. It is different to read about the duties of a career but watching a Day in a life is tremendously awesome!
I truly appreciate this video. I as an After School Leader, need this to help students in high school understand the role of the counselor and why sometimes the counselor may not be available when they need to make contact. We as a team, my partner and I, tried to explain and utilized examples of when they may be bumped on a list due to a situation needing more immediate attention. One example was of a school having approximately 900-1,000 students and only two counselors; the student relaying the story could not understand why she was constantly told by her counselor, "she did not have time to deal with her issue" at the times she would approach her counselor. Knowing this student and the situation, I know it was not that important on a scale of 1-10. I am not saying she was not important but sometimes we have more pressing issues needing our attention. Hopefully, she and others can learn the importance and diversity of the job and I take my hat of to all counselors, thanking you all for the great work you do!
Thank you for making this video. This makes me want to be a School Counselor for sure! I start my Masters in School Counseling next month. Watching this video has made me very excited to start!
Thanks Andrea, I'm 9 days in this new position from 9/10/14 and did not quite know what to do because I do not have an assigned mentor. I now have an idea plus some of what is expected of me. Thank you. I can easily do that,
They seem to be a PBIS school that has moved beyond Tier 1 strategies to include Tier 2 interventions (e.g., check-in-check-out and the small groups she leads). I'd be interested to know what this counselor's role is re: Tier 1 strategies.
I love this. I was contemplating if this was what I wanted to do, now I feel more confident. Thank you.😊
