The governor needs adjusting to perform better. My one pulls 5000w with no problem.

I have this exact model. Plugged in the 240 to my house and it ran everything. Although all my appliances are "smart or efficient" models including the furnace. It ran the whole house, Top to bottom all at once. I was surprised and thankful. HTZ and Vs were good. I did put course steel wool in my muffler to quiet it down.

I rebuild these coleman generators and sell them and I'm here to tell you there's no way a 5000 coleman will run your whole house,, I tell my customers to pick and choose what appliances you want to run then calculate watts used and then alternate from that, ..

@@stevenstair1068 all houses are different and LEDs make a difference with the load. Ran my 2 ton, fridge, furnace, deep freezer, and lights on a 6300/9000 craftsman generator. I was at 70%

You may have to open up the main jet just a touch. those china carbs always seem too lean.

I rebuilt a Coleman Powermate 5750 that I found in my grandfather's garage last week. He said "If you can fix it; you can have it."
I haven't tested it with a load yet. I just hope it can handle my 180' deep well pump.
Tip with the Ex27 engine: If it won't stay running, replace or unplug the low oil sensor. (orange wire going to the cutoff switch)

Great content. I come here when I run out of SmallEngineMechanic videos. Do you have a video on your power meter setup? I'd love to setup something similar

I would like to build a meter box like yours, where can I find those meters? I really like the way you can test the output simply with that...

This is a very good video. But the voice section on the audio was too low. I would like to know what the maximum effective power output was for the Coleman Powermate 5000.

Could you send me the link to the carburetor that you bought. I have the exact same generator and I’m having trouble locating the proper carburetor.!!

When you comparing this little budget generator to annoyance is like comparing apples don't worry jizz into it was in the dump the generator heads problem in exposed also it's of elements in dirt and crime and abuse and don't expected to do max wattage but probably when it was new it was capable of doing what they claimed

Those flat head engines were never designed to run at 3,200 rpm to get 60 cycles. The flat head was designed to run at 2,600 rpm. Generators with flat head engines die prematurely.

Your next project should be a “proper load bank.”
    Still enjoyed your video!

as with most generators of this style, 5000w mean 5000w peak, not continuous.

How many watts are those heaters?? 1200 or 1500 and do you know that for sure? If 1500 you are way over 5000. That Tecumseh engine has an aluminum connecting rod and it is marked ON THE GENERATOR 3600 RPM'S MAXIMUM....I see all these people setting the HERTZ to 61 and paying NO attention to the RPM'S. I restore and repair these old Tecumseh and Briggs engines and I have old engine BLOCKS setting everywhere with HOLES the size of you fist where the rod came through the side of the engine where the starter bolts on....EVERY time. Run them above 3600 and you can expect that rod to melt off the crank and she is over. I have seen dozens of guys raising the RPM'S to throw snow farther or what ever with the same result...EVERY time.

This is hate speech against that generator
