- IT'S NOT JUST A TREK -Ah! I don’t even know how long I’ve waited for this #Sanivaaram. It’s been almost a year since I went to Srinagar to do the Great Lakes Trek, and it feels like the universe had different plans for me back then. Endless snow, endless walks-I wouldn’t have paid for it any other way! After coming back, the thought of not finishing the trek, the urge and fire to complete it next year, never left me for a second. Sometimes, for no reason, I had sleepless nights, wondering if I would be able to do it, if the weather would cooperate, and so on.
But today, with all the courage and a positive mindset, I started my journey to Srinagar. The day before, I took my mom to the temple because I needed that spiritual energy. I also took blessings from my aunt, uncle, mom, and dad, which I’ve never done before a trip. They understood how much this means to me! I watched a movie, completed my dubbing for my next short film, and packed pretty quickly this time, of course, at the last minute.
My friend Girish has been so supportive throughout-from shopping to dropping me at the airport and keeping me in his prayers for a safe return. I can’t thank him enough! He dropped me off, and while I worried so much about the 15kg weight limit, my trek bag was just perfect, weighing in at 14.8kg! All checks were done, and nothing was found suspicious (haha!). Although we don’t carry anything problematic, that fear during bag checks is a different emotion-LOL!
My sweet mum packed curd rice and beans fry for lunch because I didn’t want to eat at the airport, so I finished that quickly, and the flight was right on time. This time, no entertainment-just Sudoku and a book to read. Later, I switched seats and got some good legroom. I met Srinivas Uncle on the flight, and we had a long chat. He was so sweet and even invited me to his house in Hampi when I visit next time.
While I was a little tense or anxious inside, which I don’t generally show, something special happened. Uncle showed me pictures of Lord Kasi Viswanath during our conversation, and it was just what I needed. I felt like Lord Shiva was with me! I landed safely, but the car ride started with a little scuffle between the airport management and our cab driver-LOL! Then I met Aftab Bhayya, who came to pick me up from the airport. He was so nice to me, and we had a good conversation. Miraculously, he said, “I am a kind-hearted person.” He doesn’t know me, but he said that. I felt emotional and responded, “Sometimes you see what you are.”
When I asked him to stop at a tea stall, he stopped at a local shop where we met a Kashmiri uncle. He was kind enough to tell me that I was in the safest place and had nothing to worry about. That gave me some strength, and I felt at home-just like I did the last time I visited. I reached GoStops, took a rest, spent some time in the big lawn, packed my bags for tomorrow’s big day, had a light dinner, and went to bed early.
One thing I’ve learned is that we need to speak up; we need to ask rather than imagine or compromise. Not always, but if we pay or deserve something, we need to ask for it. That’s what I’ve learned in the past few months! I woke up at 6, freshened up, drank some water, and headed to Krishna Dhaba for breakfast. I ordered dosa but felt the chutney could have been better-LOL!
Later, I went back, freshened up, and tried to relax my mind and body for the big day. At 11:45, I got into the auto, reached the pickup point, and bang, I was on the bus en route to Sonamarg, where our trek starts on the 29th. The campsite was beautiful, the tents were huge, and I had a great time chit-chatting with our group members. After dinner, it was already goodnight time!
From the next vlog, the ride isn’t going to be easy, baby! But I’m up for it, and so are you! See you on Day 2!
