    Hi Gregg
    Great video! How did you access these rocks? I visited Beau Vallon in October and walked up to Bel Ombre but couldn't find the exact spot. Was it on the Beau Vallon side of the harbour, next to the little beach? I found the rocks (breakwater) on the other side, by the rough car park, too difficult to access. I ended up in front of the abandoned hotel a bit further along but didn't catch anything - bitten off by what I suspect was a Barracuda though. In Bea Vallon I had a few small grouper-like fish and a decent-sized needle fish from Beau Vallon beach. We're going back in April and I'd love to give your spot a try!

      Hi. The abandoned hotel is about a km or so past this spot. The turn off is the last right turn before you get to the bus stop by the abandoned hotel. It's opposite a sports field and next to the bel ombre treasure site. You go though a set of gates if i remember correctly. They work on boats there. Just park there where they work on the boats and walk towards the sea and you will see the line of rocks which i was fishing off. Its literally right at the harbour.

      Thanks Gregg
      I think I know where you mean. I need to explore a bit more. It was near here I tried to get to the sea but struggled to find a way over the rocks that made up the breakwater! Next time I'll try closer to the harbour itself. I was towards the far left hand corner (as you face the sea) in the area where they work on the boats.
      When we go back to Mahe I'll also use some silver spoons, last time I was using 'sidewinder' type plastic lures with limited results!
      Cheers, and tight lines
      Martin

      @@user-oi1hr5xc6e yes those rocks which make up the breakwater are the rocks i was on. I walked along them trying different spots. Get in a snorkel as well, you will see it get a bit deaper towards the harbor mouth. Just be carful for boats! They will ride over you. Stick close to the rocks.

    Howzit greg i wanted to ask if you would recommend me putting a weight with my plastic lure or crankbait or whatever you know it as?

    • @FishingEasternCapeSA
      @FishingEasternCapeSA  6 місяців тому

      Hi. Not sure if i am understanding you correctly but i have never used weights/sinkers with crankbaits but soft plastic such as paddletails i obviously use a jighead with its weight. Unfortunately its not easy to get a good cast distance using small lures if that's the reason for your asking. Spoons worked very well but unfortunately not many options purchasing them in Mahe Seychelles. Only really that shop in Eden Island which is a total rip-off and very minimal selection. They actually didn't even have real spoons when i was there, just these weird shiny lead jigs which kinda worked like a spoon.

    • @vanzy7774
      @vanzy7774 6 місяців тому +1

      I'm asking if I should add a weight because isn't the crankbait to light to cast far enough?

    • @FishingEasternCapeSA
      @FishingEasternCapeSA  6 місяців тому

      @@vanzy7774 i suppose you could try but not sure it will effect the action too much. Definitely worth a try i suppose. I caught a lot of fish close to the edge so I often didnt have to cast far though. The spoons do cast much better however. Let us know how it goes.

    Fishing is super! You are a master!!! Which company's baits did you use? What is the weight of the bait? Thanks for the answer!!

    • @FishingEasternCapeSA
      @FishingEasternCapeSA  6 місяців тому +1

      I ended up using small spoons as the lures i tried didn't seem to work as well. Basically the smallest spoons i could find as the fish really seemed to like small baits. You just need to change the hooks for bigger hooks. Do not attempt to buy tackle in Seychelles, rather take tackle with. The prices are ridiculous and the selection is very limited.

    • @FishingEasternCapeSA
      @FishingEasternCapeSA  Рік тому

      Howzit bru. They will be there. I bet if you get in the water with a mask and have a proper look, you will see kingies and needle fish and small barracuda even. You need to use small lures, had no luck with any big lures. And I found that small shiny silver lures or spoons worked best. Fast retrieve with a small spoon. Let me know if you come right. Unfortunately spoons are not really available to purchase on Mahe. Only that fishing shop on Eden Island have but a very limited selection at ridiculous prices. I would never support that shop unless I absolutely had too. Good luck.

    • @FishingEasternCapeSA

      It really depends on where you plan on fishing and what you are fishing for. If you are fishing off a boat out on the reefs targeting bigger fish then you really need some heavy tackle. But fishing off of Mahe there really arent that many big fish around as overfishing is actually a problem. I took all sorts of rods and reels with but i found that a simple 7ft medium to medium light weight rod was best as all the fish i saw while snorkeling were small. My favourite setup was a Blue Marlin Phoenix Forge 7ft rod and a 3000 Shimano Vanford reel with 25lb berkley black velvet braid. This setup was perfect. Fishing off of Grande Anse side of the island the water was more rough and i needed more length on my rod so i used a 9ft Loomis which was also a light weight rod and a 5000 size Shimano reel with 35lb braid. I hooked a nice big barracuda with this setup, also using a spoon but a slightly bigger spoon.
