Bees are lovely, fragile and so important furry little beings. Every time I notice a bee in danger of drowning in a puddle I rescue it using a leaf or a small stick she can cling to and be extracted to safety. ❤ I've seen a video of Erika on BBC and she does great things relocating bee swarms. I wish her all the best, and the same to all people who love bees.
I was working construction in a large building that was about half way done , I was sitting there having a smoke and I looked at the ground and saw a bee laying there, not dead, somehow I thought, it is probably lost and ran out of energy trying to find it's way out. I saw a mostly empty bottle of pop laying beside me so I poured a tiny little puddle of it close to the bee, hoping it would smell the sugar and have some. The next day I went to the same spot and the bee was gone, I like to think it ate up the sugar and had new found energy and left! :)
did you know that honeybees does nothing for the planet besides producing a lot of honey for us humans? vesps and flies do 70% of the pollination. keeping honey bees seems today a bit hyped and has nothing to do with actual caring about the planet
She is fantastic guest. My dad was a professional beekeeper for about 30 years. I've grown up around them and have kept my own hives for years. It is absolutely true what she says about it being mediative while working with bees. The experience is wonderful. Loved this episode. 🐝

This one was one of my favorites in a while. Very educational. Erika is very passionate about what she does, and she is very sweet. Joe asking great questions. Very delighted with this one.
One of my neighbors is a beekeeper. He gets so excited when people in the neighborhood take care of their gardens because it gives the bees some pollen.
Also a 3rd generation beekeeper myself and she has roughly the same knowledge of my 10 year old daughter and going on 8 year old son. We should quit praising people as geniuses just because they're pretty and/or popular. This is 15 minutes of readings worth of knowledge. She couldn't actually answer most of Joe's questions.
@@raimesey how so? By pointing out that she isn't particularly knowledgeable? She's great at staging "bee rescue" videos, but doesn't know much about bees and is not what any beekeeper or entomologist would consider an expert. I'm sorry if that's hard to hear. Would be like Joe having dead Queen Elizabeth on to talk UFC. UFC discussion would be worthless, but would be something to look at.
Bees have an inherited memory. My great-grandfather was a beekeeper and his bees often landed on him in swarms. He was in the unit that was mobilized for both Balkan wars and WW1 without interruption, he did not come home even once from May 1912 to May 1919, meanwhile his son looked after the beehives. After all that time when he got home all the bees immediately landed on him.
Thank you for having her on. I am a 2nd year beekeeper here in California and I love people that have been doing this longer than I have. It gives me the information that I need to be successful in beekeeping.
My old man is a beekeeper, so what do you think about that? He wears a beekeeper's overalls, he wears a beekeeper hat He has a beekeeper hive tool, he has a hive smoker and, when he talks about queens and swarms and stuff, well, I think he's a joker. But someday, if I can, I wanna be a beekeeper, just like my old man......

My first mad passion as a child was insects. Unfortunately, school did nothing to encourage me-quite the contrary. I was bored stiff & always preferred to be outside observing the nature around me, especially insects. At 82, I still love them but don't know much about them.
Anyone else in love with her voice and how she talks? In another part of the podcast Jamie helped zoom in on a video as she's making a point and turns around and says 'thank you' in the nicest sweetest way possible. We must protect this woman at all costs.

I would leap at the chance to have my kids spend a couple hours with her out at a hive, learning about bees and seeing her enthusiasm. She is unique because most of us didn’t really care too much about Bees but her passion for her subject is bursting out of her and I think that alone is captivating. When someone is excited about something (no matter the subject or the person) it’s far easier to be captivated and want to try and grasp a little part of that.
Bees are truly amazing and unique creatures. Growing up in Albania my grandparents had about 20 beehives and I remember my granddad catering to them all the time. It was so wild because he would rarely wear protective equipment, it's as if the bees knew who he was. I remember spotting a queen bee once in awhile too. I don't know about other cultures, but in ours when a bee dies we use the same word we would use for a human being. To my knowledge most cultures around the world use the same word for death interchangeably for both humans and animals. We differentiate between humans and animals by using a different word.
My husband and I have seen the drones waiting for a queen. We didn't realize what it was until we researched it. It's an amazing site. He came in and told me to stay inside because there was a mass of bees and I'm highly allergic. When he realized they were doing something and paying no mind to him, I went out and am so honored to have seen it. It was such an amazing site.
@@robny It's simple and difficult, at the same time, to describe it. I'd say it sounds like a very strong hum. Imagine the sound of a bee 🐝 floating beside your head. Not flying around but hovering. Then times that by 10 and that's the sound. When they began to move the sound changed to a "fluttering hum" that was beautiful to watch and hear.

Cheers from Florida, Europe! May we all find good cheer in the coming year.
BEES and MUSHROOMS have help to mould humanity into who we are as a species.
ut of curioisty, is it true that 4G and 5G will kill them off?
Bees are lovely, fragile and so important furry little beings. Every time I notice a bee in danger of drowning in a puddle I rescue it using a leaf or a small stick she can cling to and be extracted to safety. ❤ I've seen a video of Erika on BBC and she does great things relocating bee swarms. I wish her all the best, and the same to all people who love bees.
❤❤❤
I was working construction in a large building that was about half way done , I was sitting there having a smoke and I looked at the ground and saw a bee laying there, not dead, somehow I thought, it is probably lost and ran out of energy trying to find it's way out. I saw a mostly empty bottle of pop laying beside me so I poured a tiny little puddle of it close to the bee, hoping it would smell the sugar and have some.
The next day I went to the same spot and the bee was gone, I like to think it ate up the sugar and had new found energy and left! :)
I would LOVE to see Erika on BBC😮💦 🤤what site did you see the video on?
this planet needs more people like Erika, she's special in the work she does. Thanks JRE!
did you know that honeybees does nothing for the planet besides producing a lot of honey for us humans? vesps and flies do 70% of the pollination. keeping honey bees seems today a bit hyped and has nothing to do with actual caring about the planet

Thank you Erika for taking care of the bees and educating us. Truly a special guest on JRE 🐝

@@jwcarlson Why are you being so negative? There is absolutely nothing to complain about here. You’re coming across as a bit of an arrogant prick tbh.
I love watching her making it another great day of saving the bees!!
Would be cool if they were Reincarnation bees 🐝 lol
Really interesting. I wonder how that works.

My old man is a beekeeper, so what do you think about that?
He wears a beekeeper's overalls, he wears a beekeeper hat
He has a beekeeper hive tool, he has a hive smoker and, when he talks about queens and swarms and stuff, well, I think he's a joker.
But someday, if I can, I wanna be a beekeeper, just like my old man......
Beekeepers are amazing and extremely important, and I'm really happy to see beekeepers like her getting popular on social media platforms.

I like seeing more educational interests doing the rounds, and a great influence for young girls to see this intelligent, successful and beautiful woman go out and educate.
They are not important. This country had no European honey bees for thousands of years and plants still got pollinated by native bees and insects.
Doesn't hurt that she's attractive
It shows just how good Joe is at his job. The variety of the guests he has on and being able to hold a conversation on their topics for over two hours is pretty amazing.

Honestly educating people on things simple as this, can really change kids an make them want to learn. This needs to be taught in school more an be stuck in peoples brains. We take for granted so many things, especially how hard of workers bees an ants are
Anything ive learned about bees were never simple.
So right, this does belong in a classroom along with gardening, farming, home economics, and botany.
My first mad passion as a child was insects. Unfortunately, school did nothing to encourage me-quite the contrary. I was bored stiff & always preferred to be outside observing the nature around me, especially insects. At 82, I still love them but don't know much about them.

How was the sound?
@@robny It's simple and difficult, at the same time, to describe it. I'd say it sounds like a very strong hum. Imagine the sound of a bee 🐝 floating beside your head. Not flying around but hovering.
