Thank you! I am a beginner and ready to move forward by reading patterns. I started a few projects only to get frustrated because I know basic lingo but I had no clue about the use of hyphens, parentheses, or brackets! Thank you for explaining everything in easy to understand terms! I can't wait to try those mentioned projects again!

My Mom tried to teach me to read crochet patterns as a teenager it never clicked & I gave up trying to learn crochet…now comes Covid in April 2020 I found crochet on UA-cam 😳😳WOW…never knew it existed! I started watching tutorials & I was writing in a notebook what content creator was saying as they crocheted so I could go back and work on my project. Well one day it clicked this is a PATTERN! It opened my crochet world like a bunch of chains wrapped around my brain had been broken loose……crochet is my main & basically the one craft I go to it is so relaxing….I am working on getting used to reading diagrams. 👍🏻

Mikey, halfway through the video presentation, someone lit a firecracker, and, stuffed it inside my head as I watched this video. At that point, the firecracker went off, and, I was not able to grasp the process any further. This video is power-packed with information! I went into "overload" , my brain collapsed. I can't do this video-it's too much for me! Doug😱😿🥺😵

Just what I have needed have only been crocheting for about three year and have yet to know how to read a pattern. I just come to Crochet Crowd and watch you and learn how to make an Afghan. I think as to date I've made 14 afghans and have 6 more to go for the rest of my family as a memory afghans for my my Ma who passed away on the 7th of this month and all these have been made with all of her yarn she really had a stash.

I think its time I up my game so I pulled out some of your videos on reading patterns. VERY helpful and I should have watched this when I first started. There are things I missed by following just the videos and frankly its a bit embarrasing I did that. I do enjoy your videos alot and crocheting along with you helps with the isolation and lonliness of 2020, and you always make me laugh. Thanks again for all you do, its greatly appreciated. :)

Rep from * to * once more. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - cluster made. Ch 3) 11 times. Join with sl st in top of ch 2.
3rd rnd: (1 sl st. Ch 1. 2 sc) all in first ch-3 sp. (Ch 5. 2 sc in next ch-3 sp) 11 times. Ch 2. 1 dc in first sc.
4th rnd: *Ch 4. [1 tr. (Ch 1. 1 tr) 3 times] all in next ch-5 sp. Ch 4**. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Rep from * 4 times more, then from * to **once. Join with sl st in first dc.
5th rnd: (1 sl st. Ch 1. 1 sc) all in first ch of ch-4 sp. Ch 3. Sl st in first ch - picot 3 made. 1 sc in same ch-4 sp. *[(1 sc. Picot 3. 1 sc) all in next tr. Miss next ch-1 sp] twice. Ch 5. Sl st in first ch - picot 5 made. [Miss next ch-1 sp. (1 sc. Picot 3. 1 sc) all in next tr] twice. 1 sc in next ch-4 sp. Picot 3. 1 sc in same ch-4 sp**. (1 sc. Picot 3. 1 sc) all in next ch-4 sp. But when I do that the first 11 chs that I made doesn’t line up with the round. Please help!!!! I have a question....how does one know if the starting stitch is considered a stitch or a builder for the pattern? For example....Say I want to create a simple afghan using a HDC stitch, how would I know if my starting stitch is considered a stitch as part of the pattern. I am always confused about this.? Thanks!!

Help! Mikey, I tried to google my question about UK directions for a pattern I am crocheting. I know this has nothing what’s do with this project, but I can’t get an answer correctly from google. Could you please take some precious time to answer this?
    UK crochet directions say:
5 dc, 2 dc into next stitch around (40 sets)
    Work 7 rounds straight.
I don’t understand the directions! Do they want me to do 7 rows of the directions given? Or do I do 7 rows of 40 sc stitches? Please help. Stuck in Virginia Beach, VA. I think you may reach me by using my email! I think it shows up automatically. I appreciate your help.

That's a very uncommon phrase. I am unsure if they want you to increase for 7 rounds or it's just 40 sts as you mentioned. I'm unsure what they want you to do. I don't know what the design is, so I really don't know. Have a good night.

The asterix is the starting place of instructions. So if you have to reverse back to restart the instruction, the asterix is the starting place. For example Ch 1, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st. Repeat *. You look back to the asterix and repeat was is after it. So 2 sc is after the asterix and you repeat the set of instructions all the way until it tells you to repeat * again.

Hi, may i ask, kindly, that you speak a bit slower @thecrochetcrowd as my hearing counterparts tell me you talk so fast you’re hard to keep up with, but the issue for me is that im deaf and this makes auto captions create errors rather than manual labour transcription. The compromise is auto captions by speaking with clear pitch tone timbre but people with great hearing dont often notice or care that this is important. Im not upset, im just suggesting because it makes a world of accessible difference. Thank you so much. Warmly ~Cäsar

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 роки тому

Thank you for the reminder to slow down. The captoning of this video has been done by our team already. so the auto captions shouldn't be a factor. 99.9% of our videos are captioned by our closed captioning team. Unfortunately, I speak quicker than some prefer as if I am talking to a friend. The captionings for this video should by our team, not auto-matic. I'm sorry for the trouble.

Linda Fattibene if you go to the top of the video screen, in the upper right hand , there are three vertical dots. Press those dots and a drop down menu will appear. I believe towards the bottom of that menu you will see a speed setting. Check the speed setting and you can listen in a normal setting, speed it up like a chipmunk or slow it down really slow.
