Abandoned Mental Asylum - SCOTLAND

- I've actually explored this mental asylum 2 years ago and thought i would return to see how much has changed, a lot of decay in here now, so we spent hours in there photographing the rooms. Was a tough entry and exit, i actually twisted my knee on the way in and my friend cracked a rib on the way out lol
Who would have thought such a terrible place would be so beautiful inside. People were locked in just because they were ill. You were locked away just for having epilepsy, dementia, post natal depression or learning difficulties. My mum's sister in law was locked away for being depressed after a miscarriage, she, like most of the others, just needed extra help and support in her sadness, not branded a "lunatic or an idiot" which was actually written on your records !!
Thank goodness times have changed and people are given carers, support workers and counselling to help them live in the community, rather than hidden away from society and locked up often for their whole life !!
Thanks Alec, great video.
What a massive place. The rotunda with the wrought iron grille work was quite something, in the older part of the building. I can't imagine how awful it was to have lived in such a place though, scary.
The rotunda much nicer than saying, that round bit over there. Wish more people would use it.
Whether it be Scotland, U.K. America or Australia. Alot of these Mental Asylum's probably housed more
aged people with Dimentia who in the early days were considered Mental ? these poor souls are now
looked after alot better in N/Homes, by our Governments. ( A good explore thankyou )
Though families do need to check constantly on loved ones. Don't just drop them off & forget.
Jeeezus, the way in!!!! There's no stopping you. This place is just ENORMOUS! Oddly enough it didn't come across sad and depressing, considering what it was when up and running. The decay is upsetting 😞
I was hoping you could find a doorway out at the end. Sorry to read about the knee and ribs!!! All in the name of Exploration. Thanks for this one 👍😁
Hey mate at 6:17 you can see something covers the light that is showing through those end doors at the end of that dark hall till about 6:20 when you see the light again
Beautiful building, remember the first visit. Who could forget the cranes under the skylight.
Alec you went above & beyond to explore this Asylum, enjoyed by all I'm sure please do not risk
your life doing these adventures.
You made the stage! " The Asylum of hidden rooms and hallways and NO exits." 👀 ‼
Hi Guys.
Such A Great Video.
Really Worth Watching So Much
To See. Thank You Both.
From Blue In Birmingham.
Very good. Can't believe the difference in the photos of the library 2 yrs ago and now. A shame they can get those beautiful bookcases out of there. Bet someone would love to buy to put in their home/office, etc. Thanks again for taking us along for the ride.
Thank you, brilliant 1930's Art Deco fireplace @40:33 it's shameful that this place has been left to rot for any period of time.. @16:30 clear and from the left with headfones on, 'w4nker'...there are loads but like @38:16 'wassup', it could be the cameraman himself, whereas calling out certain swear words is just unlikely lol.
Really liked the round room with the big sky light window and all the floors. That was really cool..
It really is a cool old building but the lack of exits make it pretty dangerous. Maybe that’s part of why it closed? Thanks for the explore. Hope your knee and your friend’s ribs are on the mend!
The dome skylight was soooo gorgeous!! Hope your friend is ok and same with you and your twisted knee. 🥰💗
Thanks for another amazing explore Alec.. some entrance & exit skills ... looking forward to the next explore Alec 👍
Jeez this is scary I would not like to stay here for a night thanks again Alex keep safe 👍
Thank you for your videos Alec, they are always fantastic. Make me feel near Scotland, hoping to be able to come soon again. I miss you all Scottish people, especially from Glasgow!
Thanks
I didn't think that you would ever get out of there ,good show , where theres a will theres a way..good one !
Right?! They could've easily broken a window for an easier way out.. but didn't!
Cheers Alec and team 👍. I enjoy all your work.
Such a beautiful building really enjoyed this one
Hey Alec! What a cool explore the second time around. So cool to see the difference in decay two years does. I hope you and your friend have healed. Thank you 👍❤️😊
hello alec good video i could not get that song out of my head when a was watching it the lunatics have taken over the asylum no pun intended lol.😃😃😃😃😃👍❤❤❤
It´s crazy what a difference 2 years make whem the roof is leaking ! It makes the place age 20 years in a short time. Nice video (again) 👍
You must of felt right at home in this place :) For me its just one more place the wife can't send me so Carstairs back on the cards, Intresting to see how much decay in just 2 years what a sad waste. Great video Alec thankyou for sharing it mate :)
Cheers buddy
HE WHO DARES WINS, that was a SAS entrance minus the ropes.
Think it would be a good idea to have a rope, that way any time like this you can lower the rope and the bags onto lift it out, would be much safer. It doesn't have to be a heavy rope, paracord would work, strong and don't take up much room.
Great explore Alec. Incredible how much it has deteriorated in two years. Cheers for sharing.
The spire of the old cathedral beside this advanced mental health unit yesterday caved in, so sad to see another beautiful building just fall to pieces.
Great explore, especially loved the flashback pics. Take care, stay safe
Great video pal love the way you got in the place 👊❤️
Cheers buddy 👌
Brilliant mate , enjoying your vids keep them coming . ATB Danny 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Alec. Lovely building. Outside is beautiful.. What a brave bloke you are. Those domes were beautiful. Doesn't take much for a building to go does it? You find the damndest ways of getting in. Monkey? Cheers for the great explore. Stay safe.
Great explore can't believe how much it's changed in 2 years imagine what it will be like in another 2 it's a massive place tae great work guys and security didn't see you 👌👍
This place is massive I wonder if it was ever filled to capacity and maybe that’s why they closed it down.
When the Irish came over in droves to England, asylums increased fivefold apparently. A bit of trivia there.
@@greentorm5467 was that because it sent the English women crazy not understanding the masculine Irish men's accents?
Wow what a place to explore guys ! Great pics ! Love the victorian parts of this explore, so atmospheric. Thank you 😊
Resident Evil inspiration right there.
A fantastic explore Alec that place is amazing I remember the other video u did of this place it’s great can’t wait to for the next video stay safe 😊😊
Cheers buddy 👍
Great explore ;) Honestly you would have thought they would have patched up the roof up a bit :/ I Remember watching your original explore - brilliant then. Sad this place is going to waste .. I wonder whether that floor would even be walkable in another 2 years ... thanks again 👍👍
Cheers buddy
It's nice to see one of these places without graffiti everywhere and everything smashed to hell.
What a shame to see so much water damage in places after only 2 years. Won't be long before it's condemned in parts.
At least someone made an effort with the pastel painted walls.
Hi Alec, that is pretty sad that the government just let's that building sit there and rots.
Another great explore Alec . If I was in there by myself I'd never find my way out again ! I've no sense of direction whatsoever .😊
Oh sad from two years ago. Lots of damage.
No exits ,there's lots of windows I wouldn't stay trapped long😀I really felt trapped following you room after room, that's the thing nightmares are made of.😀take care.👍❤️🇺🇸
The windows don't open enough for anyone to get out they're designed that way
@@ExploringwithAlec yes but I would sure try breaking some😀❤️🇺🇸
Thanks!🌷keep safe
Alec!! Damn ninjas! 🤣😉 Dressed in black, dropping in from the roof..8+ feet to the floor! Crazy Scots!😜 lol Place was huge n creepy.. but def awesome.👍 Too many things to mention! How'd you get in/out the last visit?? XX
The front door lol
No but the entrance you chose 😲 drops already me my butt would never pass and after it's on I break the 2 ankles 😂 I said good to leave he will have case open a window down and slam behind him but no you go back to the same place! 😕t't you be crazy😂
Hi Alex. Hope your all keeping safe.
Great video hope everyone is ok though .
oh look its nicola sturgeons house
Obviously they are not maintaining the structure so they can eventually demolish it but you think they would let in architectural salvaging to get what's worth something before it all rots. Like those spectacular door architraves
It won't be demolished
@@ExploringwithAlec yeah your probably right ripe for flats nice location
@@clonie9963 Yeah it's to be renovated and turned into flats
Hi Alec, I love your videos to all your destination. April 6, and I want to ask if you will Remember to ANnounce it on your next Trip?

Why didnt you bring the ladder down from the attic space?
Alex I wonder have you ever experienced any paranormal activity
I don’t believe in PA but me and my four sisters did but we were scared to tell anyone just in case they thought we had lost the plot I was the youngest of my four sisters.I will never forget what happened and I never will
No i don't believe in it and don't go hunting for it
Such a beautiful house it must have been
Yep, a happy home🙄
@@greentorm5467 not a happy home maybe but the architecture is beautiful
Worked and did my RMN training in a similar building in London from the age of 19. The architecture was the bonus, the job was not!
