    That looked quite difficult actually. You are a skilled repairman and a skilled video creator. I recently managed to upgrade the 512Gb SSD in my 2014 11" macbook air to a 2Tb SSD. That one was easy. No unsoldering necessary. What you did here requires skill. If I tried that, even if I had all the fancy tools you have, I'm pretty sure I'd screw it up.

    What's the maximum possible upgrade? Are 4TB or even 8TB possible?

    • @AustinRoss
      @AustinRoss 3 місяці тому +3

      Depends on the CPU you have. These SSDs use lanes to travel to the CPU. The basic M1 only provides 2 lanes. The Pro provides 4 lanes and the Max provides 8 lanes.
      So 2, 4, and 8 respectively are the ceilings.

    Some younger viewers may be surprised to learn this, but old Apple products were engineered to be easy to upgrade memory and storage space. On the old Macbooks, the memory and hard drive could be replaced without tools.

    • @AustinRoss
      @AustinRoss 3 місяці тому

      Old Macbooks didn't use the Storage as a means for the GPU to offload VRAM ;)
      We're in a different era of speed... the old ways won't suffice any longer.
