  • According to many resources, An Ural 650 is unsuitable for highway- use. However, i use mine quite often for this pupose, so i decided to make this video (on a wet and slightley snowy day... i agree i could have taken a better moment). The bike has a slightley longer gearing (9/35, sold as "solo gearing") in the cardan drive to keep the engine-revs within a suitable range. Lacking onpaved roads and steep hills here, this conversion makes it more suitable for the Dutch trafic.

I did the same with my solo 1995 IMZ-8. Raised the gearing to the highest available with new cardan gears. I use the bike for commuting 37 miles in FL, USA including a 10 mile stretch of I-95. Cruises at 65-70 mph nicely. I wouldn't expect anything less for these nicely balanced flat twins.

I like it. When you say it has longer gearing, did you replace the final drive?
If so, how does it feel? Motorway driving. This looks really cool and it's rare to find a video of Ural doing this on the motorway.

Yes i did. I replaced the sprockets inside the final drive for the "solo" version

The speedometer needle is flying around like a wind vane ROFL 🤣. Will it comfortably do 120 km/h? I guess you can never know for sure, but approximately…
