My grandmother was born a Long and her mom was a Roulston. They had a farm outside Stranorlar. Many today might remember them. ❤

Hi vkatrina. I'm sure they would. People in rural Donegal have good memories. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.

Thank you for this wonderful video! My grandparents lived in Ballybofey-Stranorlar before emigrating to Canada and my grandmother's parents and their parents lived and worked in the townland of Kilyfergal, just down the road from the mid-1800's to the early 1920's. I hope to get to this area after covid does a hike. :-)

Many many thanks for these kind remarks Pam. You have made my day! So many folks left Ireland both north and south over the centuries. It must nave been desperately tough to leave all you knew behind. Many folks never saw relatives ever again. The distances were just too far back then I certainly hope you get to come over. It will be a good while yet before you may be allowed. Were your relatives back then churchgoers. Many of the churches are very valuable places to start any investigations. ( Graveyards and church registers ) Best wishes from Belfast Northern Ireland.

Nice little place, spent a short holiday there in last January. Stayed at the Kee's hotel, loved the character of it. Thanks for showing how the village looks like in the summer :)

Yes a very pleasant little spot LO. We used it as a base for a few days to see round some of the county.
We passed McKee's. I see what you mean. Best wishes.

Hi Bertie, Thanks so much for approaching me in the carpark. You made my day! This is the first time anyone has ever recognised me from doing my videos! lol
I was gobsamcked to see the numbers of folks down watching the Disney Magic. I have never seen the likes before and i have watched most of the big ships sail out. Thanks for your support. Best wishes.

Hey thanks for that Kevin. I'm just a 67 year old ole,, laid back, eeejit, who likes having fun on UA-cam. I like to point out the positives about this wonderful place we call home. I'm afraid we are all shut down. Sadly I wouldn't recommend a visit to Belfast before next summer the way things are going. Besy wishes.

The Butt Hall Centre is named after Isaac Butt MP the founder of the Irish Home Rule Party who was from 6 miles away in Glenfin and is buried in Stranorlar Church of Ireland graveyard. For more about Isaac Butt see ballybofeyandstranorlar.com/people/isaac-butt/isaac-butts-story/

Hey many thanks Paul for taking the time to get in touch about this. I love delving into the whys of names and old history. If we don't make an effort to keep this history alive then it is going to be lost to our younger generations coming up. The majority of young people do not read books but they will go online. Thanks for the link. Stey safe in these difficult times. Besy wishes from Belfast.
