Great Advice :) We all since childhood had this illness we call it TV-Aria... Born in the '60s and hooked on to Tv since the '70s. But in those days Tv had one channel and fewer hours. We were addicted to Sohail Rana's shows- Children's hour shows in English and Urdu both. Then prime time English shows like Chips, Starsky and Hutch, Switch, Saint, Persuaders etc etc etc. Long list. Late-night English shows like Ironside, Petrocelli, Mac Millan and Wife, Colombo, and a long list. Then English and Urdu feature movies too. Urdu plays too.. . Our Dad used to take us to cinemas also. I must tell you no doubt the '70s were the best days in Pakistan- till the coup happened. PTV in those days was super cool. We saw great English movies old classics and international movie festivals and Academy awards every year- musical concerts- Olympics inaugural ceremonies and whatnot. And it all is still retained in our memories. Besides Tv we used to read a lot too- may be because we see our Dad reading all the time. And you are so right- those story books of childhood are still with me ( woah books abhi bhi hain meire paas but aaj unhe koi bacha nahee perhta) . I read "Naunehal" till the age of 18 or so till I was ridiculed by my Bhabi when she saw me lying on the bed reading "Naunehal". But yes now at this age I feel that my reading time is reduced to zero- it's tv news, movies, or social media keeping me busy. My attention span has shortened. In excitement, I bought three books by Prof. Harari when I learned about him through UA-cam but still couldn't start one. Bought Allama Iqbal's pictorial biography in -a coffee table book but it is still placed on that table. :) Yes... I agree with you and still want to cut off my bad habits of watching too much Tv. But... "Chuttee nahi hai munh se kaafir lagi huee".
I would suggest listening to different podcasts about life, books, religion etc. one of my favorite one is The American Life at WBEZ Chicago. They have some really thought provoking podcasts. ❤️
have not owned a TV since 2008 :) Have not watched any English series on Amazon or Netflix ~ the Pandemic lockdowns forced me to watch two Pak Dramas after nearly 10-12 years. Occasionally watch films on Netflix. Follow some Essential Podcasts :)
