@@SimHangerFS I bought the Kodiak. This was in large part thanks to your video. Trying to figure out how to setup my Warthog throttle to operate in the full travel so I can easily get to reverse thrust. 1 lap around KTIW and I knew this was a winner! Thanks.
Yeah, as you have found you really don’t need that much right rudder trim on take off, I’ve found setting the indicator to one or two clicks after the right line is good for my flights so far.
I love the Kodiak such a good add on for MSFS. Attention to detail like being able to blow the engine on start up and apparently over exerting the engine for an extended period is modelled. Stalling this aircraft on final like I have done then trying to correct it quickly with thrust doesn't usually have a good ending so you need to be careful with airspeed. My only criticism is a tablet would have been handy like other add ons eg. like turning passengers on and off amongst other things.
Excellent starter tutorial for us newbies to the Kodiak. Hopefully we can all take it out for a Sim Hanger group flight. Thanks for linking a throttle config video too! 👍🏼
Great rugged plane to fly in. You can really beat it up and it can handle the tough bush flights, but smooth enough to fly on paved runways too. Looks great too.
Woohoo, I knew you would love it too. Right up our GA alley. With the recent patch, the "left nose-dive" is reasonably well controlled, but you still need to fly it well. Quatam is back on my frequent flyer list. Soon, when the Kodiak Float version comes out (separate, smaller purchase) BC and all its seaplane bases will be near heaven.
Thanks Mark! I have had the Kodiak for a little while but hadn't yet been able to take it out, with guidance, to fully appreciate it. I followed along on your flight in VR and also successfully delivered my passengers and cargo to the bush strip. 🙂

Are you confusing strobe lights with the rotating beacon? Strobes are typically only turned on as you enter the runway, and off as you leave it, much like the landing lights - their high intensity can be very disorientating to other aircraft if used on the ground. As for position/nav lights, it seems to come down to personal preferrence. I was taught beacon before starting (as soon as you switch the battery on actually) and nav lights before taxying, but a lot of people put both on together.
@@otterspocket2826 Yes, my bad. I meant the beacon. Maybe there is a difference between airliners and GA. And maybe personal preferences play a part as well. Thank you for correcting.
Great review.I love the Kodiak! It does so many things really well. The turboprop can fly faster and higher. It has great cargo capacity. It can land almost anywhere. And both the physical and flight models are superb. What’s not to love?
@@beepIL There are two things you can do to improve the FPS performance on the Kodiak. First pop the fuse for the standby display to the left of the PFD. That little secondary display is an FPS hog. The fuse is on the bottom row. It’s a three-amp fuse about in the middle. The second thing you can do is go into the display settings on the Kodiac’s PFD and turn off 3-D terrain display. Hope this helps. Happy flying.

That is your AOA indicator (angle-of-attack). Used for take off and landing…when the arrow goes red your close to stall. Engine power will depend on the condition lever position…should be high for flight, plus your altitude.

well this is all truly amazing. one question i’ve got and apologies if you addressed this and i missed it. does it take advantage of the checklist function within the sim? cheers. happy new year, keep up the great work
@@SimHangerFS I'm not sure I understand your answer to this one. I have rarely used the in-sim checklist feature in MSFS 2020 because I mostly flew the 172 and have real-world checklists for that. However, when I got the Kodiak, I had to find something to get me started so I used the In-sim checklist that came with the plane. I can scroll through the many items and check them off as I go and, as you mentioned, the sim points out the items in the cockpit to help familiarize you with their location. So what functions are missing in the Kodiak in-sim checklist? (as I mentioned, I'm not exactly familiar with all the possibilities with regard to the built-in MSFS 2020 checklist feature.)
Here’s another answer as someone who is fed up with devs either not using the in sim checklist system at all or not bothering to use it to its fullest potential. With this particular plane, which is a good plane but unfortunately the checklist is a mess. At least it’s there, but many items do not have a camera setup, many items do not have highlights, and many items do not recognise what state the item is in and respond accordingly with the Evaluation option that reads out each one. It also has other issues like a couple of things having placeholder text. It’s the one area that really needs a lot of work. Fortunately though it’s not a super complex plane, Quest went for a streamlined and low workload setup so after a few flights it’s pretty easy with a normal PDF checklist.
@@WhiteHawk77 thanks for this fantastic reply. i think the checklist system is game is amazing and it is terrible how underutilized it’s been by both asobo/microsoft and 3rd party devs.
@@goalski134 no problem. I hate a fair few design decisions Asobo have made with this sim, but the checklist system isn’t one of them, they got that right, but then so few use it. In fact I’m not sure any addon plane does completely for every item, not the ones I’ve got anyway, so that sucks as one of major frustrations is knowing where things are and what things are in a new plane. But I do highly recommend picking this plane up regardless of the state of the checklist right now, as I said the cockpit isn’t as busy as some other planes, just a few flights on my New Zealand end to end tour and I’m pretty comfortable with it now.
