You use a sidechain compressor on your 808 and it will basically lower the sound of your 808 when the kick hits for however long you have the release on and then the 808 will come back to the full volume it was at. If it's done properly it will have the kick hit and then really fast make the 808 volume come back so it's barely noticable at all. Once you watch the video and figure out what to actually do my settings on fruity limiter are as follows - Release 2ms, Attack 0, Sustain 1ms. I usually use a -13 or -14 threshold. You also need to level your kicks properly which is a whole other thing. That's what I do for my kicks personally though others do what they like.
