This video checked a lot of boxes for me. A fellow Canadian, and I owned a red 16v Scirocco II for many years, and currently have a 86 MK2 Jetta Carat that I originally G60 swapped over 20 years ago. That car is now running a Turbo ABA on MegaSquirt 2. 🍻🍻
I owned a MK1 GTI and it had so much character, I loved it. I also owned a MK3 with a vr6 in it, a set of raceland headers and a custom exhaust. The noise out of that engine was amazing.
Had a Passat Syncro back in the day with the G60 in it. Awesome car. Finally trashed 2nd gear racing a cavalier when me and the boys were on a road trip out your way. Had around 320k km on it. Buddy that owns NGP bought it and swapped a VR into it. Miss that car.
We did one with the lysholm in a MK1 years ago... we got it running on standalone... and it needed a few more things to complete... and then the customer bailed on it. :(
One of my favorite motors ever! I’ve also built many 16VG60 . my caddy 8V G60 went 11.87 in the quarter best time and 7.5 in the 1/8th mile with 211hp / 194tq That was on a chip tune. Not even stand-alone. amazing little motors!!! I’m actually building another 16vg60 currently to see if I can make it hit 10.999999 🤣 that would be record breaking! Dave if your customer needs help making more power with this motor tell him hit me up! Not sure who did the head or cam it’s running. Dave also keep in mind porting these heads you will lose psi for sure! #g60
Wow thanks for quick reply. I'm thinking fpr as it's flooding on start up my oil is getting diluted with petrol too often. It's timed correctly new injectors fitted . A bit more digging required. Thanks again👍
nice, my favourite will always be the mk1 golf, growing up South Africa, we could get brand new mk1 until 2010 when they finally stopped making them....
Big fan of 'Roccos, especially a 16v. My buddy had an '86.5 Rocco II back in the days when I had my first mk2 Jetta GLI. Lot if great memories around then. Did that car have one of those old Callaway kits?? Looks like a nice build, especially with all those Euro parts. Always love your videos fellas 👍
It'd be nice to see one with a turbo too, to see what that motor can handle, and cause, well I have one in storage, lol. We all grew up with people raving about them, but I only usually see them acting as workbenches in peoples' garages.
Im sure you guys have posted about your cars before but I would like to see a video with your rides on the dyno. Of course only rides you guys want to share. Love the videos. 🙌
Being honest... most of them don't run. I myself have a lot of projects and could fill this channel strictly with those. However working on my own stuff doesn't pay it actually does the exact opposite. lol If the channel someday gets bigger to support the other projects you will for sure see them.
VW did this in the late 80's/90's but the marketing side of the company in their wisdom decided on calling it the Corrado and not the Mk3 Sirocco. I always thought that was a big mistake. Oh and I love the European headlights and bumpers.
Boost used to drop alot when you put a big cam in them. What pulley size is it. We used to spray belt dressing on the belt to stop it slipping. 200 at the wheels sounds plenty for an 8v that doesn't rev. We did loads back in the day including Rallyes and 240bhp at the fly was very good. This must be making similar.
The weird throttle release valve leaks so that's not helping anything. If we get it back we'll likely change a few things since it's on standalone and we have the flexibility.
I ran Megasquirt for 6 years in a bunch of Peugeot 205 GTi's, the later MS3 platform was actually pretty decent, tons of functionality but as you mention it does have its flaws. I'm now a Maxxecu fan boy lol
I have the same steering wheel. Kind of cool. I like the sound of a G60 supercharger. It just sucks that this charger tends to leak oil. Wish it was more reliable. Not a fan of the screw chargers.
Nice to see a g60 . Have one in my M.k 1 standard Ecu though . Any tips on why it's over fuelling I'm constantly cleaning the spark plugs . Great work guys👍
As far as favorite generations and stuff, Mines too old for guys, no water to be seen haha. But as for something like this, I remember some guy had a silly rabbit. Some orange color. It's only a myth now that I remember from back when 😉
These chargers rely on an oil mist from the pcv system I believe. Lots of people when cleaning up the engine bay delete the system and put a catch can or vent to atmosphere… and without knowing end up cutting the wick on their G60 time bomb even shorter
Nice that u guys tune MS. I bought a plug and play MS for my car just to come to the realization that no one wanted to tune it. Finally found a tuner that did a crappy idle, and cold start. Runs rich too. But it has been good for 50k miles now. Car sounds so unhealthy at a red light. Sure it makes the car a sleeper. But its annoying. I do nt dare buy MS any more.
This makes me miss my g60 corrado. Granted, It’s not the best supercharger design, and people did refer to them as grenade 60’s. BBM sprintex is the way to go with that engine.
Just picked up my first Watercooled VW, MK7.5 GTI but I’ve been an aircooled nut since 2000. Just finished building a little monster that needs to dyno. Highly modified 40hp/aka “1200” in my 58 ragtop Bug. MS2 v3.57 Megasquirt, AMR500 blower, GM 1BBL TBI. I live in central California but have no idea who should tune it. CO Motorsports is in Canada? Anyone have a shop to recommend that’s not 500 miles away?
@@COMotorsports Nice! I don’t know your style but might I suggest a Type 3 Notchback or Type 34 “Razor Edge” Ghia. Not sure if you know what those are but it’s not a normal Karmann Ghia

Nice! I'm actually working on a mk1 rabbit with a g60 + megasquirt, nice to see this one working!
Best of luck.
Nice, I got a mk1 jetta g60 on df1 myself. You should start a build thread on the vortex!
I’m doing the same. Have you gotten yours running yet.

Nice to see a running g60, I have one in a MK1 cabby but with the lysholm charger on it in place of the g60.
We did one with the lysholm in a MK1 years ago... we got it running on standalone... and it needed a few more things to complete... and then the customer bailed on it. :(

Much appreciate, the engine's built just needs a turbo instead of the G60. lol But it will be back for some more.
Would love to see an ABF turbo in the shop. Had an ABF rabbit with Jenvey ITBs on Emerald management, loved to rev
Mk1 scirocco all the way! I have to get mine painted soon so that I can start driving it.
Yes, love scirocco's!!!

Sharing this within scirocco community❤️😍
It really sounded it was pinging/knocking at low rpms on the last pulls. I remember that sound from way back when 😁
Nice videos!
I was thinking the same thing
@@gerg_gti Part of the reason we stopped. ;) Right after that we found the air/water cooling system was not working at all.
Yeah def was. I have a turbo Mk1 8v, I know the sound well :)
thank you for the scirocco content, I have an 85 scirocco... some footage on my Chanel
Been hoping you'd talk about this car for months
It's cool to see anything G60 in the 2020's, besides my own garage!
Suckers for punishment. :)

This engine can definitely take a lot more than what these chargers can produce.
Love it , more old stuff !
I had an 88 in white with those same rims. Ahhhhh I miss it. 200hp in a car that size/weight would be an absolute blast.
My favorite Dub channel
Appreciate the comment.
Love it. Rocco 😍
Nice going the other direction. But a VR6 3.2 would be so nice in this one
I would love to see my swapped rabbit on your dyno, you look like Nice people and à diesel test would be différent ! I Will plan à trip..
Those are great number for the 8v

They have a specific oil feed line to the charger.
As well as the oily air going into the intake helps lubricate the charger
Momo Daytona steering wheel, nice car 😊
typically, gunk resolves in a glader swap
Love the video. Have a scirocco 16v turbo. I'm upset that your 1000 miles from Baltimore MD usa 😢
16v Turbo. now you're talking.
I bet he didnt glue in his displacer seals with that small pully. That's why he keeps having issues. Hope he gets it figured out.
Hi great content as usual 👍but I have a question for you not about the g60 can you put a 1.8t 20 v head on a 2.0 tfsi bottom end ??
yes

Have you run tuner studio on it? Tried the auto tune feature with it? Maybe there’s a hidden hardware issue like this car has?
I miss my old G60 Corrado.... the only car I regret selling.
that g-lader has a blown seal if its not making 15psi and there are no leaks in the system. they are sensitive flowers.
Mk2 ftw my first car was a 90gli 16valves of fury.
This makes me miss my g60 corrado. Granted, It’s not the best supercharger design, and people did refer to them as grenade 60’s. BBM sprintex is the way to go with that engine.
Its cause nobody installs new oil lines and they get old and starve the charger.

I really liked seeing the older car. With modern ecus and tech can the older hardware make more power?
The charger is the limiting factor here. Edit... well after all the problems are fixed. lol

Is this whp or hp?

We're measuring HP at the wheels with this chassis dyno.
why are the G60 a ticking time bomb??
