Really happy with the team right now. Once they’re healthy they could make a deep run.

@@paulspencer6845 Awesome! I hope the best for us in the coming years, then! Though I wouldn't expect much from the Sharks yet...
As a Columbus Blue Jacket guy, the problem is that Columbus is not a preferred place for free agents, either their own players who become free agents or, other teams' free agents looking for a place to play. That has to do with Columbus not being New York or Florida or Vegas. And it has to do with the team having a long-time poor reputation that does not compare to Boston or Chicago or Pittsburgh. I sometimes wonder if the team will leave Columbus. And I sometimes wonder if I might just be okay with that.
I agree with all of this. I think this rebuild (and Jarmo can call it a "reload" or whatever the hell he wants, but let's call a spade a spade, people) is going to be the Blue Jackets' last chance. If they can't wring any kind of success out of it, I think Columbus's days of having an NHL team are over.
I have said that if you want to drink beer, eat popcorn and watch a mediocre NHL team year after year, Columbus is as good a place as any. But if you want to watch a team that will threaten to win the Stanley Cup in the next decade or so, you'd better live elsewhere.
A CBJ fan who is ok with the team moving? Makes sense.
@@SocialAssasin I said I was a Blue Jacket "guy", that's different from a fan. We are mostly ex-fans who could be won back. but at this point, we have to be won back.
Love this type of videos. I liked Sakic and Yzerman as player but I'm at the point where I feel they're as, or even more, competent as gms.
I'm so happy sakic turned it around. He was one of my favorite players as a kid and although it shouldn't, his bad gm years were making feel like his legacy as a whole was taking a hit. Like I said it shouldn't as there two different roles and jobs. But I couldn't help think that. He's turned it around and has absolutely killed it. From his drafting to how guys have developed is top notch. Happy for Joe and the avs. Dude was amazing as a player and well as pure class. Showed up in big games too during their cups runs. Now he's showing his brilliant mind for hockey as well. I think stevie y is also the same thing. Classy amazing player. Everything he seems to do just works.
@@andyc9979 His drafting is top notch? really? I'm sorry, but the Avs have been terrible at drafting for a long time now.
Yes, they drafted MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar, but those were all Top 10 picks. There is not a single player who was drafted by Colorado with a pick lower than 12 overall who has made a real impact on the team.
It is a bit too early to completely shit on his drafting, because there still are some promising prospects in the system, but it's also way too early to call it top notch
Caps fans are (typically) so supportive and thankful for GMBM. He was instrumental in rebuilding our defense and winning our first Stanley Cup. Every year he makes a reasonable move. Sometimes they pan out. Sometimes they don't. But through it all he's done a good job of balancing future vs. present considerations while always keeping the core of the locker room happy.
It's not an easy thing to keep a roster that's been competitive/good for 10-12+ years together and cap complaint. And he's not afraid to pull the trigger on the big moves, unlike our former GM McPhee.
Well said, I think he has made quality deals since he took over aside from signing Panik for so many years. Time will tell if the Mantha trade was worth it, but I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Scouting will be spotty because of covid so chances are those picks are not going to matter much at all.
@@catrissia yeah the Panik deal probably seems like less of a big deal if the pandemic didn't happen + the resulting cap squeeze on mid-tier players like him. He had to pay to get out from under that "mistake" but I'm glad he did rather than doing nothing.
Your work ethic is honestly amazing. We appreciate it, that’s why I’ll always give a super chat to you when you’re live streaming!

Even as an Avs fan I would have to say Yzerman is the best GM in the league, we have seen his moves all work over a long period of time and his draft choices are brilliant most times. Sakic is an absolute mad man when it comes to trades, he is completely brilliant at that but we haven't seen alot of his post 2nd round draft picks become much so far so that gives the edge to Yzerman
Don Waddell deserves GM of the year. Carolina is near the top of the standings, has had 20 draft picks in the past two years, and has cap space.
Waddell and Zito should both be in contention. They have done such a good job of building a team that can make noise in the playoffs.
@@randomusername.5605 What about Joe Sakic, he's litterally building a dinasty
@@randomusername.5605 Yeah they've done a lot for those non-ntraditional hockey markets in a short time

A complete 180 vs his previous tenure in Atlanta.
Ur work ethic is out of this world!!
He’s been this good since the beginning
Well like they say, when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life!
I feel good about the Wings for the first time in a long time.
As a Wild fan, I honestly think Guerin has done solid job so far. He hasn’t done anything over the top, but he’s done the moves necessary for the team.
The only thing I'm happy for is that he didn't sacrifice the teams future to get into the playoffs when the team is not a contender. Judging by the last few GMs no moves or fewer moves are what I want to see. However one of his oddest trades he did make was the Staal trade. We don't have any centers why trade Staal?
@@backupgoalie1007 I think that trade was a locker room culture trade. Besides the fact that Staal was slowing down, he was part of that older group of players who seemed very... comfortable. GMBG seems focused on changing the culture of the team so those guys had to go. (Especially when he has two contacts with NMCs that he can't trade away.)
@@lediona3996 Yeah, really the big thing is we needed younger legs and even though Staal was still producing, he wasn’t in the teams long term vision.
Ron Hextall had multiple scout overrides when selecting draft picks. One brought in Oskar Lindblom, another brought in Shayne Gostisbhere. He thrives in later draft picks, and he is going to preserve Pittsburgh with depth weapons for a good long while. I don’t know how he will handle the retirement of Crosby and Malkin, but he still has a while until he needs to worry about that.
pretty happy that zito has really helped florida take that next step
Always a good listen. Thanks!
Well done Shannon interesting take, I’d like to see the same take with owners, which owners pave the way to team success or which owners hinder team success.
I think CBJ fans have a lot of faith in Jarmo. The all-in decision a few years ago did have mixed results but it brought us the most success our franchise has ever had. This past offseason and this season can't be held against him because he did a ton of work to clear cap to lock in PLD who unexpectedly 180''d and wanted off the team out of nowhere. Getting two firsts this year for Savard and Foligno is good GM work. He is the best talent evaluator CBJ has ever had. We will bring in a new coach and system in the offseason I think we'll bounce back to being a bubble playoff team pretty quickly. Comparing him to previous CBJ GM pedigree like Doug Maclean, he is incredible.
The lighting have the best gm and he's proved my point I've been telling everyone it wasn't just stevie y team they were working together building the bolts
I saw the title and I thought, oh God, he's just going to use kid gloves when talking about Rutherford isn't he? And then I remember Rutherford is gone and my world is once again back in order.
Thanks for the memories JR, now go take a nap
What a horrible man that Rutherford must be, bringing multiple championships!
@@maxrcrypto It was mostly lucky lightning in a bottle, believe it or not
@@closethockeyfan5284 Whatever it was, they did something that hadn't been done in 20 years
@@maxrcrypto lol and Rutherford assembled this team now that is currently tearing the division up with half of their best players out. Cici all of the sudden redirects his career same with Matheson and I’m still pissed about that trade but it seems to be a good trade. Even tho I miss Horny. I hated a lot of the moves he made but Rutherford built a strong fast team that always seems to compete.
Skeptical about Kekäläinen too but, he took that team from the bottom of the league, joke team, and made it this relevant, making them to playoffs 4 years straight and winning series, thats good.
Also did build a cup contender one year where sadly they just happened to run into the 2nd best team in the 2nd round and then everyone said ok, byyyyee
This guys take on the hawks and Stan Bowman is looking real good. The 2022 hawks will now have Johnny Toews, Kirby Dach, Seth Jones, Tyler Johnson, Jake Mccabe, and of course the raining vezina winner Marc andre Fleury. Don't sleep on the 2022 Hawks!
Fantastic video idea! Cheers from Mississauga dude!
The 11 teams mentioned as a potential cup winner soon: Carolina, Colorado, Edmonton, NY Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Vegas, Washington
On your comments on Mtl, I can wholely agree. My manager at work (here in LA) is a transplant Habs fan so we talk hockey a lot and my god recently he's wanted Bergevin's head on a pike and has thrown the idea of a rebuild out there. Its truly surreal.
And then they went to the Finals
Love the content keep up the great work
Jarmo has done a good job given the circumstances. But the roster he’s constructed no longer fits the style of Torts. With an offensive minded coach, this roster will be perceived differently
yeah i think jarmo is planning on making the jackets more offensive, but went heavy on defense (and brought in tortorella) to get the team a winning pedigree and playoff experience.
but the jackets will need to get a #1 center at some point. there’s some good prospects in the system (especially marchenko), but no top-end center. they also have another goalie in the pipelines, so they can deal off korpisalo and/or elvis.
@@UserName-ts3sp Yeah I mean you can't really blame him for that. Like most of us, I'm sure he didn't anticipate the PLD trade request. Roslovic is good but probably best suited as a second line center. At least he now has plenty of assets at his disposal to try to acquire a #1
@@37willdog yeah im not entirely blaming him for that. i blame torts more, apparently it was about politics in the locker room
If it was locker room politics he still shows signs of friendship with people like Seth Jones, which makes me think it was mental health issues.

Looking forward to watching this video! Cool idea
You mentioned Pat Quinn ... he was one of the best coaches and GMs. He did well with teams that lacked skil. Never won a cup but always long playoff runs.
You showed Jeff Blashill a lot of kindness that I don’t believe he deserves and I don’t think he’s gonna be here come the off-season but you’re absolutely correct about Stevie doing phenomenal work. Sooooo stokes for our overseas prospects to join us. Always fascinating to me, too, the parallels between sakic and yzerman and their careers on ice and off.
This is a very cat-centric video for me.
Anything involving cats is only enhanced by their presence!
They are in charge, allowing us hoomans to live under the illusion that we're in control.
Stop talking about cats, right meow.

great video man thanks for the content :)
That Panther logo on your shoulder makes perfect sense, even if it looks as if it was drawn by an 8-year old. Florida: Sun, Palm tree, and Pitching Wedge. Perfect.
Enjoyed your "honest take". I noticed you mentioned the owner during your review of Ottawa and Vancouver. I think the ownership link is vital to a GM and organization's success. As a Tampa fan, we had some dark days where ownership was too involved or used the team to launder money (allegedly) for a Japanese yakuza crime family. Anyway, the ownership needs to be mentioned when reviewing Buffalo in my opinion. Is having Kim Pegula as team president a good thing? Growing up a Whaler's fan, I remember the solid Sabres teams back then. Hope Buffalo can turn it around but I'm not sure they can with the ownership being so involved.
I'm a Habs fan who remembers the dynasty that was the late 70's and the comparative genius that Serge Savard was who oversaw the cup in '86, finals run in '89 and cup in '93. And I can tell you that Bergevin can sign all the free agents he wants but this team will NEVER become a perennial contender again until the root of the problem is addressed. And that is the scouting, drafting and developing which they used to do better than anyone in the league and now are close to the bottom. Look back at the years leading up to '86, 89 and 93, Bergevin and Timmins haven't drafted 1/4 of the number of great players that were taken in those years in the entire time they've been on the job. Free agents and trades can't build a championship team period.
Bruh, THG is so right about the habs, my family and I have the same conversation every night where one night like yesterday we were praising Bergevin and two days ago we were wondering how he hasn't been fired!
Been waiting for this one, very interesting
It's a lot of doom and gloom for the Flyers right now....But thanks for still having optimism for our future, Shannon. We need some hope right now.

Funny how when I first saw the old Ducks logo I thought it was lame., but now all these years later I think it's cute and nostalgic.
Fair take on the Jackets. I think people may be surprised by them next season though. There's a decent amount of young talent there and if Domi-Laine click, with Nyquist coming back, their offense will be much improved. It all comes down the coaching situation and goaltending either way though.
Putting my faith in Gorton and Zito... I feel pretty good about it
The centre depth for Wild is weak, but I’m glad there were no moves to supplement it, this year. Centre help is on the way and I agree the players he brought in for via trades before the season started, but it really fixed up that locker room. This is the most refreshing & fun Minnesota team I saw since 2017
Your body language when discussing the Canucks...I can relate.
With what you said about Bergevin in MTL, the same is true here in Chicago. Bowman gets little to no praise when he does something good
I think berg made more good move than bad, the problem with MLT is that they have been an avg team at best for a very long time and never really did commit to a full rebuild instead it feels like they are running around like a headless chicken hoping to make the playoff with next to 0 chance of winning it all.
@@bloodtearse yeah, Montreal's organizational direction over the past decade has confused the shit out of me. Although they now have a good young core, I think they should've done a rebuild like 5 years ago imo
Nice jersey Shannon!
Tampa here. We just lost gourde and Johnson. They’ll be stars on both of their teams. I’m so happy to cheer for them on Seattle and Chicago. We’re so fortunate to have had SY and now JBB. But most importantly Jeff V. is my favorite owner in all of sports.
so glad ovi got one tonight. so hot a look now. thanks tiger town.
Marc Bergevin, love it or hate it, at least he does some move that makes sense, unlike Bob Gainey and Pierre Gauthier !! Honestly this year, no real bad move at all...good draft, nice trade who gives results, sign Toffoli and Perry cheap, young prospect being developped right in Laval with finally a good developpement team... Still have 11 draft pick (2 second round and 3 third round). Fired the dinosaurs ( like Julien but it was over) to get 2 young coaches of the new generation...What more can he do ?
I love Gorton. One of the best GMs for a rebuild but his contacts are pricey so that worries me for contending
I think Armstrong has done great with the Yotes. Especially with the situation... 1st year, coming into a mess from the previous GM, owner troubles, etc. Bur he did great with getting talent to the Valley in the off season, and there wasnt a lot of options at the trade deadline.
This looks like half of a 90’s All Star/Olympic line up. Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman, Ron Francis, Ron Hextall, Bill Guerin, Rob Blake- there’s probably a few others up there.
Blake had me when he decided not to trade 1st round picks. He's drafted well and been smart with asset management, been decent with his trades and has done a good job with signings, people pan the Kovalchuck signing but it was a free (asset wise) player who was worth taking a shot on and it has not hurt this team one bit, but getting Roy and Walker for a combined 5.9 mil makes up for any so so signings

I think that specifically for hardcore hawks fans, they recognize that Stan has made a lot of good decisions in the last year. Ever since they finally left the fake contending phase and entered in a real retool/rebuild, Stan has shown what he can do when he doesn’t need to contend. The time to fire Stan Bowman was 2 years ago. He doesn’t deserve it anymore. The drafting has always been incredible with this team. Really looking forward to Reichel and everyone else building with this young core.

I wouldn’t mind giving a few picks to Seattle for them to take Burns or Karlsson... I can dream right?🙁
I like what Rob Blake has done with the Kings rebuild. So far he has made some pretty good trades and acquired a lot of picks and prospects that I have liked. I hope he makes some good decisions over the summer I think the Kings need another LHD hopefully they can acquire one in free agency. Also who to protect for the expansion draft I'm hoping the Kings don't lose Walker or Clague to Seattle.
Brad treliving is awesome, the flames are very consistant at mediocrity. It adds lots of excitement because Maybe just Maybe they'll score a goal. You never know who is going to score, the bottom line is just as likely to score as the top line. And the moves, wait a long time for something to happen then switch a player here player there then sit back and cross your fingers for the next 6 months. Go Flames Go
We love you THG. Hope you know that.
As a long time canes fan, I have loved how Waddell has handled the canes! I think some credit should also be given to Ron Francis who, though his trades were pretty rough (other than the Terravainen trade), drafted incredibly well and many of the players he drafted are now playing in the starting lineup. However, Waddell took the canes to another level that Francis was unable to.
As a Huge Predators fan, I could not have agreed more with you on your assessment.
As a young Ranger fan I havent heard much hate for Gorton. I think he's been phenomenal with the rebuild and I very much enjoy that he sat back during the deadline. Also 100% agree that people put too much pressure on the rookies, definitely not fair to expect so much out of 19 year olds who are playing against 29 year old stars
Your description of Montreal fans is accurate, us and Toronto are imo the 2 fanbases that do this a lot
totally agree with your take on MN. Can't wait until Rossi comes to the bigs. Who knows, we might actually make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs before losing for a change.
I'm a devil's fan and I completely believe in Lou Lamoriello. I think the islanders are going to win a cup in the next three years and I wish he was still in NJ. Keep up the great work Shannon!
As a Habs fan, we certainly have the most bipolar fanbase out there.

Most alphabetic lists just use the St. rather than saint
I really like what Kyle Dubas has done this year. He made a lot of great adjustments in the off-season, and he again made a lot of great additions at the trade deadline. I'm really happy as a leaf's fan. The only decisions I'm rather not happy with are the contract size for Nylander... I don't think he's worth it honestly, and if it were up to me, I would have cut him loose rather than give in at the last minute. If he were a two-way player like Matthews, I'd be okay with it, but wow is he lazy and inconsistent at times. He has made Tavares a lot worse this year too - this is undeniable. But other than Nylander, I really like the team Kyle Dubas has put together. Giving Alex Galchenyuk a chance has really paid off and it's galaxy brain deals like that that have really made the cap space to performance ratio really work despite the higher salary sizes of the forward group.
Katie, I must admit when Willy Styles was a holdout during contract negotiations, I was hoping so much that Dooby would make him sit the year if he wouldn't lower his asking price. He is overflowing with speed and talent, just hasn't shown that HUNGER and DESIRE to do what it takes to be anything more than a streaky goal scorer. I still believe he's is an integral component to this team and can be effective when he realizes that he is just another cog in the wheels of this machine. We don't expect him to go bang bodies, we just need Hyman like tenacity, and his skill will flourish from there. We brought in the pieces that bring experience, heart, hunger, sand and gamesmanship to help with the studs. C'mon Willy, you are surrounded with guys that will have your back, have theirs, find your BIG GAME attitude for the playoff push. Block a shot or 2, kick a little sand at the opponent!!! GO LEAFS!!!!!
Take any GM out of the OHL - give them a 3 year internship under Lou Lamorillo, and the majority would have done a better job than Dubas has done, just by learning from Lamorillo - which Dubas never did.
Your work ethic is phenomenal, THG.
Absolutely love the reverse retro Panthers jersey!
I think Jarmo deserves a lot of credit. Seems like any star they have wants to leave the city. Kind of hard to create a SC worthy team when that constantly happens. I think he’s made the most out of trades and draft picks have been pretty good for the most part.
Who do you see as the teams that are very close to winning a cup. In order would be very interesting. My number one prediction is Colorado. 2) Winnipeg 3) Chicago wins one more for Toews and Kane. 4) Pittsburgh could swap places with Chicago on my picks. What do you think? Keep up the great work!
As a habs fan, I've always defended Bergevin, not all his moves panned out but he has a lot more hits then not, We have a nice young team with good veterans (Gally, Toff, Petry etc.) Next year we should be a guaranteed playoff team and in 2-3 years cup contenders. I have confidence in the plan
In a Finnish interview - perhaps last year or - Jarmo hinted that people above him kind of instructed them to go all-in and keep Bobrovsky and Panarin, obviously everyone fully aware that CBJ won't be able to keep them (or get anything in return). So that cannot be held against him.
I think next off-season will be huge for their team and with certain changes, they can take a big step in the right direction. They now have three 1st round draft picks for the next draft and some cap space and can use those to make off-season acquisitions, if they are to get that 1C, for example, through a trade instead of free agency. The coaching position(s) will also have to be addressed.
When it comes to having a proper evaluation on CBJ GM, the off-season will be decisive.
As an Isles fan, there is only one GM I’d rather have than Lou. His name is Steve Yzerman.
insanely bitter that he left my team in the deepest hole of any team in recent memory and suddenly learned to not be fucktarded for a division rival
Bill Torrey. (wink) I mean technically you said one GM. Not one CURRENT GM.
Bowman hasn't actually been bad over the last 2 seasons (I would say ever since the 2019 entry draft). The Zadorov trade was the only iffy thing hes done (admittedly, we needed more bite to our game and he has been much better than I expected.. and we have soo many middle 6 fwds that losing Saad and saving money made sense). He also hasn't made any terrible signings recently... next summer is going to be big though (Boqvist, Murphy, Lankinen, Dach, kubalik, and Strome if we keep him around)
i wish i was as optimistic about my flyers as you are lol
I’m a Sharks fan and I have to agree. Pundits were saying they would probably win a Stanley Cup when the had the likes of Owen Nolan and Mike Richie. Look what happened!
As far as the Rangers go, it’s not a Marc Bergevin situation with Jeff Gorton-that would be David Quinn
In the offseason a fun video would be a list of potential good goal songs seattle should use. I think they should use one little victory by rush id be so hype if that chorus was blaring after a goal!
I think grunge might not be the best genre for a goal song but nirvana would be cool.
@@astelthyninja8927 Breed would be sick
@@irrelevantsocks thats a good one too
Ouch. Truth hurts for Stars fans like me but I agree with ya Shannon.
Is that the Florida RR jersey? That looks really sharp.
Quick question, I am new to your channel, and I noticed your furbabies in the background. How many do you have? I myself have 2 and I can say they are plenty enough for me.
We have four cats and a rabbit. At night, three of the cats like to sleep on my side of the bed so it makes for an interesting night of contorting myself so that they're comfortable...
i do agree with the description you made of how habs fans work. But as a fan who wants Bergevin gone, the reason why is that we don't commit. Every year since 2010 we're a wild card/8th seed caliber team and our success has relied exclusively on Price. obviously Bergevin wasn't there since 2010 but ever since he's been here he doesn't commit on an ideology. He doesn't want to trade his young assets but mismanages them, let them leave on waivers instead of trading them. He wants be a cup contender but never goes for the homerun and decides to only go for base hits like Chiarot and Edmundson. yes we're pretty consistent on making it to the playoffs, but what's the point if you can't go past the 2nd round? So all I want is for him to commit. Either he goes all in and try to get a cup for Price and if it fails, at least we tried. Or we full on rebuild, go tank mode and try to do a Blackhawks or a Pittsburgh. And if we end up being the new Edmonton, it will suck but so be it, at least we tried.
Although Benning is not a very good GM overall, I'm very envious of how well he drafts for Vancouver (as a Habs fan). I can't imagine having hit after hit the way that they have under him without having to draft super high in the first round. Demko, Boeser, Pettersson, Hughes, Hoglander, and potentially Podkolzin. Even Juolevi can't be counted out yet.
Montreal drafts so poorly in comparison, with the only players who were drafted by Bergevin that are currently in Montreal's lineup being Evans, Lehkonen, Kotkaniemi, and Romanov. Either peripheral players or players who haven't fully hit yet. So frustrating.
