Bandrew can I just say you're an incredibly creative person. You manage to make every single mic test unique and fun to watch, despite the fact that you're trying to test them all in the exact same way. Have all my likes and hopefully this comment will boost your channel beyond your wildest dreams. The first sentence of this comment is the most important one to remember.
Perfectly written, and completely agreed with! Thanks for all your creatively hard work on these videos…I’m learning a LOT. And also, I just watched your collaboration video with AudioHaze. Very cool of you to support smaller channels and help to foster community in the broadcasting/music recording arts. I appreciate very much.💝👏🏽
I liked the Stellar x2 Vintage, that was my first choice for spoken word, not so much for the instrumentation. However, the X3 was the best for speaking and playing. You did a great job comparing the mics, letting us hear the x3 as a reference. Very thorough review, double thumbs up.👍🏽👍🏽
The more I hear the comparisons with the AT2020, the more I hate it. I'm grateful I never purchased one. Keep up the good work Bandrew. Another very informative review / comparison. I would love to see a "best of" list (maybe per price point) for each application. You often add, "It's not my favorite..." but it would be nice to know what is for each of your standard applications.
Love your content, Sir. MicAddict. Not sure what it says about me, but you’re one of my favorite content creators out there. I enjoy your sense of humor, and your central/unbiased and well thought out viewpoints. I appreya. I appreya so hard.
Lots of "doing it" "blow it" "nothing weird" "really nice down there" in this review, definitely no weird thoughts in this one. The most important thing I noticed was how dirty your pickups are! Out of these options I think the 440 has my vote for best sound relative to value. Another great review, thanks for all you do!
Thanks for your final opinion, a comparison with the NT1 was exactly what I was looking for. So, being a bass-baritone I guess I'd find myself more comfortable with the NT1.
You finally did this one haha, as always a fantastic review! I found this mic sounded very plain but its still really good. I have this one somewhere in my mic locker, its a very nice sounding mic but... just gonna stick with my WA87R2 😂. I agreed with everything you said about this mic, its a smooth but boring microphone, neutral sounding depending on the use case. Its good but its not a AT4040 or NT1 (the only mics I could think of in the same price point haha), just my personal preference.
I understand what you mean about the peak. There's a huge presence peak in k67 style capsules at about 10 to 12 kilohertz and in the original u87 they have this complicated feedback circuit to adjust for it that takes into account the sharpness and jaggedness of the peak. In this microphone they use like a really simple eq circuit which gets rid of the overall lift but doesn't smooth out The texture or shape of the peak like it's designed to be smoothed out so you end up with this very specific sound. Lots of mic designers make this mistake
I always wanted to see you review the Editor Keys SL600 USB Mic It’s older but I’m in love with the looks of that mic for some reason. This mic sounds really BTW I would like to see this in USB version tho Good review as always bro
Pretty much agree with everything you said here, it is a $350 microphone that records stuff and it sounds good. In the pantheon of cheap XLR mics, you can certainly do way worse. I thought for sure it destroyed the AT2020, which isn't too hard to do these days at any price point. But for $350, it's pretty overpriced imo for a microphone that doesn't really have a unique sound or identity. The LCT 440 has that airy Austrian high end, the WA47jr is dark and warm, the Sennheiser MK4 has the Neumann legacy backing it at a killer price; I just think there's far better and more interesting mics for the same price or less. Hell you could probably find a used KSM32 on eBay for around the same price. KSM32 was my personal favorite mic in the comparison by the way. Great review as always Bandrew!
Art you forgot about the close to zero resale value of TZ's (turd-zones) top turkey. l bought a used Shure KSM 27 for less and will find a used Sennheiser MK 4 as well that l can resale, years from now, for the same price or more.
Best mic I’ve ever had. I’ve had the TLM103, SM7B, RE20 and RE27ND. Hands down, the X3 beats them all. You may have to reduce the boomines by switching on the bass cut
i think the x2 and x3 sound almost the exact same... they use the same caplsule according to their amazon descriptions, i think the x3 just adds the switches and uses a different housing... sounds like it to me anyway... i do much prefer the looks of the x3.. and like the low cut.. excellent comparison. thank you.
The more I listen to all these microphone comparisons, the more a appreciate the AT 2020. I got this 100 USD microphone for 60 USD used. That's truly an affordable microphone that easily competes with microphones costing 3x more.
I listen on my phone too, I'm not trying to say anything negative at all what so ever. It takes an experienced ear just to hear the difference, then it's still a guessing game if that mic will work for you or not when you actually plug it in your own setup.
Not to mention UA-cam compresses audio in all uploads to some extent that can also shift the dynamic range on what you exactly hear compared to raw recordings and how it'll play on other services.
as a Rode NT1 fan, i really like the x2vintage... and to my ear the x3 is like halfway in between.. a little more sizzle and gravel... but not as much as the vintage... the rode is the king of clean... and the x2 vintage is the king of that awesome warm vintage sound... the x3 splits it down the middle... just my thoughts.... great comparison, thank you.
Nice to see you in good humor for this one. My take on it is rather different. I didn't think it sounded dark, and the forward mids to me sounded rich. They are obviously trying to emulate a U87, so why not compare it to that? I was really starting to like it, until, as you said, the guitar solo. That highest note really especially jumped out in a cringey way. I think if they fixed that, they would have an outstanding project studio mic. "Happy new fear"? Thanks, WEF and friends.
Aston Spirit 🧐 noticed the difference and... Really liked it. 💪 I am looking for a budget condenser xlr microphone, could you do a best series? Thanks for the hard work and great entertaining content. 👍
Been a long time since I've watched a Podcastage video. I recently treated myself to an MKH 8050, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a supercardioid voiceover mic they want to also use for interior location audio. (Of course it's $1200 USD, and I actually won about 60% of the money I spent on it) I also think you should check out the Oktava MK-012, specifically the hypercardioid version, because it's also a killer mic for its price, but it needs some serious boom skills and a good shock mount for location work. But it's a solid choice for those who can't afford an MKH 8050 yet. They actually sound kind of similar, I think it's the 3K bump they both have, otherwise they're fairly flat. Hard to fault the Oktava for anything when it costs $230 and sounds almost as good as things 5x the price (handling noise and wind sensitivity aside).
You should check out the Editor's keys SL150 & SL600 USB mics, would love to see that, you helped me in making a choice for the mic powering my channel so thanks
"This mike is boring... And i love it" 😂🤣🤣🤣 That thought got me dying LOL. Btw: I am subscribed to the channel and thank you so much for not punching me in the face today. 🙂
I remember what happened. Some Chinese company stole the artwork, uploaded it to their site, and the TeeSpring shut down my merch for a copyright strike, and I never put it back up.
I'm surprised at how solid the low end sounds. Of all the mics compared my favorite was the X3 followed by the X2 Vintage. I also don't usually care for a hyped high end. It's what's set apart high end microphones like the Neumann U87, U67 and U47 from cheaper knockoffs. I'd love to hear it go head to head with one of the industry standard Neumann mics.
I heard slight difference in a couple of them. I've been using the AT2020 for years and just bought the Stellar X2 should arrive today or tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how it sounds.
That'll be your typical Chinese condenser. Apex stuff is bright because of a lack of EQ in the circuit. Expect it to sound like the old Rode NT1 and NT2A at best.
I Think it is an improvent over the x2 version. On your voice sounds great. I am not sure if I prefer the x2 vintage. That relly depends on the application.
Hey, Bandrew was particularly silly today. But yeah, the microphone sounded ok. I think I'll still stick to my Stellar X2 Vintage if I need a condenser microphone for whatever nefarious purpose...
What is the best microphone that doesn't pickup white noise or hissing sound?!!!!! It has been months since I was trying to find the best microphone that doesn't pickup white noise or hissing sound😭😭😭

I am new to microphones and recording and have a question you may be able to ask. My son gave me a Blue Yeti Pro and I purchased a Motu m2 interface. I use them to record myself playing saxophone. I am not even sure if the Blue Yeti is good for recording horns anyway, my question is what would be better or a step up (better) microphone for this purpose?

I'd use a Lewitt if I wanted to capture absolutely every nuance of detail in a space, for surveillance, perhaps. Painful. In this price range, NT1 spanks all of them for neutral workhorse utility. And my god, I know that I am crapping a wee bit on a very lauded mic, but if there is one thing about the neutrality of the NT1 that I sometimes don't love, it borders on boring. Well, after going back and forth between the two here, compared to the KSM32, the NT1 sounds like a fricken party. The KSM "Eyore?" Yet more great content, and a year old at that! Thanks Bandrew!
I love how your review studio is slowly morphing into an apocalyptic bunker.
He should sell 2 or 3 mics and buy himself some studio furniture.
Honestly my favorite was the Stellar X2 vintage. Seems really smooth with no exaggeration or grain noticeable.

This thing sounds really un-offensive. Just a good balanced sound. Nice job, T-ZAP! pew pew pew!
I does seem rather pleasant.
If voice is boomy, no problem! Just turn on the x3’s high pass filter. In my opinion the x3 is much better than the rode n1
