Question: is the dirt road HWY 5? Is HWY 5 under construction? In April, we're planning a motorcycle ride from Los Angeles to Los Cabos. We'll be riding from San Felipe to Loreto using HWY 5 connecting to HWY 1. Is the road under construction? I noticed this post from 2 months ago.
Thanks for the question! The road is/was under construction. The hurricane that passed through shortly before we entered Baja washed out the roads in various locations. From when we drove as to late, from what we’ve heard, is that the road is almost fixed and it was just the last stretch at the end that was left to be repaired. There are Facebook pages where you can get further and properly updated information regarding these roads. (Talk Baja Road Conditions) is a great page to follow. As well, make sure to follow us for more content 😊 Feliz Viaje!
Hi there! we had no fear at all. we have felt very safe through our entire travels. But I think with anything make sure you always have a full tank of gas, know basic spanish and a good attitude. I hope you have a blast on your trip!
minutes.... about 15 minutes on the longest which we found was the last one. There were some parts we weren't registering thats how slow we were going. We saw some people going faster than us but we wanted to be safer, so we went very slow which worked out nicely for us. and i would highly recommend driving on a weekday and leaving as soon as the sun comes up
Baja Borracho, your name seems entirely appropriate. They were driving cautiously and respectful throughout their video. I don’t know what you think you saw, but they drove appropriately. In other words, don’t be a jerk! What a d!(khead comment!
Interesting that most maps I viewed (internet) showing (entire) Baja peninsula don't show Highway 5 going through the "inside passage" (along Sea of Cortez) avoiding the long drive back up to Ensenada. Bingo : www.mexbound.com/img/~www.mexbound.com/baja_map_mexbound.png

it took us 2 days with the motor home and the construction. we stopped in Guerrero Negro for the night. Hope this helps :)
Really helpful, Thanks!
I'm so glad you found this helpful! We were a bit nervous with the mixed reports on the road we figured it'd be nice to show it so people can prepare

how long you think you were on gravel off the pavement, we are towing a 5th wheel. hours or mins at a time. thinking of the same trip

Nice video!
Thank you so much!
Great video! What was the longest distance between gas stations would you say?
I cannot recall the kilometres/mileage, but we had no issues running low on fuel in our MotorHome between stops.
What permits are needed to at the checkpoints? Thanks
At the time we went through, they were only checking the vehicle out quickly, and asked for passports.
No problems with cartel/police?
none, we are a big unit that stands out and had 0 problems. We even drove down to Cabo (in the jeep) and felt safe on the roads at all times.
You don't even pull over for an eighteen wheeler? What kind of person does that?
Which point of the timeline are you referring to?

Not informative, I've driven that highway many times and so have thousands show something but road
