victorinox classic is a good choice for a lightweight knife/multi tool. It only weights 22g/0.8oz and has a knife, scissors, file, flat screwdriver, tweezers and a toothpick on it. the blade length is only 1.5in/38mm.

Agreed that AT is well beaten down and mostly well marked. However, one needs to be especially conscious of looking ahead for the next blaze when hiking the trail in the NY/NJ area in the "off-season" as fallen leaves and, later, snow will disguise that well-worn path pretty well.

Great advice! Never been through there in the "off-season".... Yet!

Another great video, full of good advice. I especially liked how you eliminated a lot of things to get you on the road. Also, I should know this, but the music? Title and author please?

Hey Darwin! What is the proper use of the term hiker trash? Who can say it and when and when is it offensive.

    • @kan-zee
      @kan-zee 7 років тому +1

Hiker Trash, is when someone has hiked for a distance, and they stink of sweat (bacteria). I say it to any one whom, hikes long distance and stinks. LOL. Hiker Trash is a term used to describe hikers who have re-entered society without conforming to its standard of cleanliness. Alot of Transient people are commonly known as Hiker Trash.
Homeless people are not Hiker Trash.

Hey Darwin, I am a very large individual. I stand 6,5" and weigh 320lbs. Could you recommend a reasonable pack weight. Most of my gear purchases are to accommodate my longer frame and have been difficult to find lightweight gear . I'm starting my trail hike in March 2018. Thanks for your videos, I have learned a great deal of information.

Based on your experience with ZPacks bags and the experiences you have heard from other hikers, how fragile is Cuben for a pack vs. Dyneema. Would you recommend a Cuben bag like the Arc Blast?

    Hey Darwin!
I'm hiking the AZT in segments this summer and was wondering if you found it necessary to use any bug/insect repellants while you were on the trail? I've done a few passages already and the flies get pretty hard to ignore at some points.
    Thanks!

Can you discuss the basics of hanging your food at night?
    1) Simple technique how to hang food
    2) How far from camp?
    3) Do you do it every night?

Question: When do you decide to change and get new shoes?...is it when they start falling apart, or when they get uncomfortable for you?...do you use insoles, and if so...what brands do you use?

9:50 There are several ountries (like Romania in Europe), where they charge you for hitchhikking. Just like on a bus. It’s sounds strange, i know, but this is the world.

Totally with you on mashed potatoes! Probably ProBars as well - hubby and I have used them for breakfast because they are easy to eat on the trail which lets us get out of camp quickly. Great videos.

During your hikes, did you and Snuggles ever split or did you always stick together? I imagine it's hard to always get along being together 24/7 for six months straight.

    *Question*
1)Where do you see yourself in 5yrs and 10yrs.?
Will you still be *Thru Hiking* or will you settle for section hikes ?
    2) Is there *business* to made in *Training newbie hikers* ? If so , will this
    be in your future plans ? 🌲 🚶🏻 🌲 👣
