Oooh, the Explorer's Guild is at war with the God of discovery, who continually expands and changed the world, so that more can always be discovered. This infuriates the guild, because they can never complete their maps, and shipping lanes.
But doesn't said god keep the Explorer's Guild in business? I mean, if the world isn't continually expanding, wouldn't they eventually run out of stuff to explore?
What would be really cool is if they ended the game before the end of the world and played a D&D style game using the world they'd created as a history and setting.
'Microscope', which I think they mention only once at the very start of the video. I didnt know what it was either at first, when first I started the video haha, until Tom mentioned the name. It doesn't have a board or cards or anything anything, just a tiny rulebook. Two my friends own copies, I've played it before. Its rather interesting but you really do have to have friends who like to basically shoot the shit and make up random stories off each other's prompts, otherwise the whole thing falls apart. I really think this group here, at least Ben/Simon/Tom as a combo, will work really well together.
Hello! The game is called Microscope www.lamemage.com/microscope/ A bunch of commenters seemed to be having trouble finding it, so here's the link. Have fun!
I found this video to be the best introduction to microscope I ever seen. I definitely recommend everyone who wants to show thier friends how to play the game see this series as a nifty example of what fun can be had in it.
best thing I have seen in ages. really nice music, fitting art and a good mix of fun banter and actual creative world building. please don´t keep the time spans between each episode too long!
So as a writer I've actually heard of this game/concept and while I've never actually done it, I fuckin love it. I haven't been this excited about a series in a long time. I can't wait to see where this goes.
They have basically described the book "The Half Made World" that has an unfinished world, Gods that run/are trains (and other gods that live in guns) set in a weird version of the wild West. The train gods are called the line and have a huge power base and drive towards order, the guns (called the guns) have agents that want chaos and terror.
Yikes I got these two vids in my subscription feed back to back. BATTLEBOYS - Necromunda Game Eight #2 - Taken From Behind YogsQuest 8 - Rise of a Civilisation #1 | Planting the Seed
Woulda been cool if the Gods each made their own chunk of the world. This one specific God made a tool (train & people) to see what other Gods are doing (undiscovered world and God conflict). The man who kills all the Gods is the one person who takes the train across the entire world.
Inanimate Potato IDK if you watched the main channel sea of thieves videos, but they were some of their best videos in a long time, and they had this exact crew.
While it doesn’t feel very Yogsquest-y, this looks like it will be a really interesting series. Really good group of players as well; I don’t recall seeing Simon and Ben playing together, outside of things like TTT, so it’s really refreshing. Just realised I said ‘really’ too much...
In case anyone was wondering the John Scalzi story Simon is ripping o- I mean, referencing is a short novella called "The God Engine". Though definitely not his best work it's a good read!
What stops the 'Magical Drone' from being a God? Added: This is what I get for watching it before work, and commenting before the end... SpoIler: The train being the first god turned machine is a beautiful idea. Machina Ex Deus!
Do you love Yogscast roleplaying? Well we have a brand new roleplaying channel: Mystery Quest! Check it out here www.youtube.com/@Mystery_Quest
*Meanwhile, in another universe, existence is created... Gods were born, man was made... then everything changed... when the fishmen cometh...*
Aw fuckin hell
And Ben... saw this all... "Oh no~" Creator Simons' cackle reverberated throughout the void.
Actually there is only one universe. The word means *everything* that has or will exist, other dimensions and theories of other realities included.
Or eventually every universe will become the same, having everything happened in them, before branching off again.
I really wanted a freedom rock
Oooh, the Explorer's Guild is at war with the God of discovery, who continually expands and changed the world, so that more can always be discovered.

Sounds like a Diskworld plot
"A person kills all the Gods"
Kratos 101
When Simon mentioned a guild of werewolves immediately thought of The Companions from Skyrim
Same
im hyped for this but shame lewis isnt here
He'd just end up doing an awful Ameebo voice somehow.
Aww, I liked the Ameebo voice.
Long live Datlof
He’s in Japan
He went to new Zealand after Japan.. There's a vlog on the main channel.
What would be really cool is if they ended the game before the end of the world and played a D&D style game using the world they'd created as a history and setting.
THIS, THIS IS GOLD RIGHT HERE! Play a game of microscope and then play D&D in it...GENIUS!
This seems like a REALLY interesting game to play.
Sierra Maniac This is /r/worldbuilding in game format
I'd love to know the name of the game or what book Tom is using. I Googled Rise of A Civilisation and the only thing that popped up was Civ 6.
It's called Microscope, by Lame Mage Productions
Wow this looks like its going to be really fun! I love the idea of this. Creating your own world with your own in depth stories and lore
What if this leads up to a yogsquest in this new world they have created!!!!
Good point :D
I always feel so bad for Tom, DMing the yogscast is like hearing cats.
Miaaaooowwwwww!!!
Herding jingle cats.
he's not DMing this one
Hearing cats?
Hearding?
Now this is a game I’d never expect to see on a stream/vod.
But this is a good crew to try it with! Looking forward to seeing how this goes!
whats the name of the game?
'Microscope', which I think they mention only once at the very start of the video. I didnt know what it was either at first, when first I started the video haha, until Tom mentioned the name. It doesn't have a board or cards or anything anything, just a tiny rulebook.

I think (or atleast hope) it was more a
"*person name* NO!"
that person "*pearson name* YES!"
And they were just filling in the opposite.
I feel like this is actually going to be one of my favorite games night series.
Aw man I love Microscope. I love that Tom is introducing all these things that I love.
I found this video to be the best introduction to microscope I ever seen. I definitely recommend everyone who wants to show thier friends how to play the game see this series as a nifty example of what fun can be had in it.
Yay! Simon is back in a Yogsquest. *tear runs down face* I'm home now
Wayne Adkins but all the others arnt here.
Kyle Devy find one, lose one
NenshouYuuki sigh true dat, true dat.
Man... the editing and all the preparation and LEWIS AS GM made the first three yogsquests something to be rewatched monthly lol.
Enslaved gods+ trains=Thomas the tank engine?
That's why they have faces D:
Thomas the dark engine
please upload these more frequently than the cthulhu ones
LPDani123 Call of Cthulhu is done, did you not see the finale?
think he means less time between uploads, so we dont have to wait so long
That's unlikely to happen because they always stream the episodes once a week on Fridays
Wish denied
-Posted 6 days ago-
I remember when Amazon was just that book company.
oh yeah, i forgot that's what it used to be
This series is one of the best Yogg roleplaying series I've seen so far, and I'm extremely pleased to have the content.
WTB Werewolf guildsman who run corner shops.
See if you can find a boat. ⛵
henry blackburn I don't see it
That was so long ago
It feels like yesterday :(
I'm loving this so far! The setting seems interesting, I'm loving the "collaboration" aspect, plus the music is so relaxing and fitting.
One of the easiest yogscast series to watch back and enjoy! Proud to say I'm back again to enjoy it for like the 5th run, this time in 2022
Less Call of Cthulhu and more Microscope! This series is so good and much more enjoyable!
I really hope we get more than one episode per week. This is fucking amazing!
This game actually seems really cool for world creation
best thing I have seen in ages. really nice music, fitting art and a good mix of fun banter and actual creative world building. please don´t keep the time spans between each episode too long!
Left me wanting more, this is perfect. I hope there are legitimately thousands of episodes of this ;-;
This is like that scene in The Order of the Stick.
"It's my turn, my choice, I say: NINJA!"
This is basically yogscast story telling adventures. I LOVE IT. MORE
I am envious of this group. This game pick is pretty impressive, I want to see what happens to this world. Thanks guys!
Welp going to have to play some Dominions now...
ABSOLUTLY LOVING THIS.
MOAR.
I already know I'm going to love this series
This is so chill, love the creativity!
So as a writer I've actually heard of this game/concept and while I've never actually done it, I fuckin love it. I haven't been this excited about a series in a long time. I can't wait to see where this goes.
9:20 - the problem with a “trains guild” is that they would always be on strike. You’d need a rail replacement bus service guild!
It's like dwarf fortress taken to It's logical conclusion when toady gets every new mechanic he could possibly want to all work at once
They have basically described the book "The Half Made World" that has an unfinished world, Gods that run/are trains (and other gods that live in guns) set in a weird version of the wild West. tom, for better or worse, will go down in history as once of the great dungeon masters in history.
Yikes I got these two vids in my subscription feed back to back.
BATTLEBOYS - Necromunda Game Eight #2 - Taken From Behind
YogsQuest 8 - Rise of a Civilisation #1 | Planting the Seed
Is this god killer named kratos.

In Australia/NZ when this was recorded most likely.
In a lake.
Embarrassing reporters and personal trainers?
whybother929 The meta!!!
I really enjoyed this. It was very relaxing and comforting to watch. I wish the rest of the series was out
Woulda been cool if the Gods each made their own chunk of the world. This one specific God made a tool (train & people) to see what other Gods are doing (undiscovered world and God conflict). The man who kills all the Gods is the one person who takes the train across the entire world.
Damn, That sounds good. I like this game, brings out all the ideas and blends 'em together.
Any yogsquest with simon is a yogsquest I’m definitely gonna watch
This is absolutely awesome. I love this type of game.
I kinda wanna play this. I'll have to look further in
This is an awesome concept for a game. I am really interested to see what will happen.
Yogsquest 8, so soon after Yogsquest 7? We are living in truly magical times.
Love that beholder on the wall
Will be back when I have time. Love Yogsquest series, and RP tabletoppy stuff
Wow this cast is actually so much better than it looked at the start
Inanimate Potato IDK if you watched the main channel sea of thieves videos, but they were some of their best videos in a long time, and they had this exact crew.
looks pretty exciting, looking forward to seeing how it develops.
This game just seems like an awsome idea for anyone with a creative or wacky mind. I can't wait to see what else they come up with.
While it doesn’t feel very Yogsquest-y, this looks like it will be a really interesting series. Really good group of players as well; I don’t recall seeing Simon and Ben playing together, outside of things like TTT, so it’s really refreshing. Just realised I said ‘really’ too much...
Out here with that bootleg God of War series. Love it :)
I love the premise!
Seems like a really interesting game, looking forward to more!
I am CRAZY HYPE for this.
What an amazing concept! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with! :D

That's about 49,000 hours for the whole series.
Chaguar I'm up for it
More like a million years (yogscast are really slow)

This feels like it's gonna be a hit, I'm stoked!
This was super fun, please do another!
In case anyone was wondering the John Scalzi story Simon is ripping o- I mean, referencing is a short novella called "The God Engine". Though definitely not his best work it's a good read!
Wow really excited for more of this actually.
Love this series already
"The story so far: In the beginning a God created the first people. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
What stops the 'Magical Drone' from being a God?
Added:
This is what I get for watching it before work, and commenting before the end...
SpoIler: The train being the first god turned machine is a beautiful idea.
Machina Ex Deus!
A yogsquest with Simon and no Turps and Lewis? Sign me up
funny thing. I'm reading a book where there basically is a train guild. Or mechanic guild in particular but they do trains.
give us episode two please, this is gonna be one of the best series
Kyora we need to know what happen when the fishman cometh!
I knew Ben was the most likely person to ban time-travel. Medal pls.
SO EXCITED FOR THIS SERIES!!
I miss the old YogsQuest games that had amazing sets and animations. YogsQuest 2 was amazing.
So happy that there's a new yogsquest but also kind of sad that Lewis isn't here :(
I'm really excited about this series
This is very interesting! Can't wait to see what comes of this.
I like this. I'm really looking forward to see where this is going.
This is genuinely fascinating!

Screams:FINALLY!!
Simon's beard makes him look like BRIAN BLESSED!!
Hurry up and give us more!!
Wow, very interesting game! Looking forward to the next parts.
The music was perfect for this
Would love to see this on Mystery Quest!
Have y'all never heard the term "world building" because that's what this is, and it would be very helpful for people searching for it.
