I just watched your video on your thoughts about UA-cam. I started my channel about 5 years ago with the intent of helping people. I didn't care about the algorithm or what your supposed to do to be a successful UA-camr. Then I got caught up in it and thought I would focus more on doing UA-cam right. I didn't like it and feel a lot like you. I could care less how UA-cam feels about my video. If I help someone out of their jam, that's good enough for me. Thanks for the great content you create. If you do a live Q and A and want another creator to join you, I would be interested. My channel is based on home repair.

I love that you are teaching your daughter your trade and that you are learning Mandarin!!! My dream job when I was a little girl was to become a carpenter. My dream job as a teenager was to become a linguist. I studied Mandarin and Japanese and several other languages. I was told that I would never make a decent living with a linguistics degree. But I followed my passion anyway and landed a great career that I love, and that pays well using my linguistic skills. But I still had that dream of becoming a carpenter. So I became a linguist on weekdays, and a DIY carpenter/woodworker/drywaller/tile installer/construction worker on weekends in my fixer-upper.

What an amazing thing to see your daughter working with you and learning the craft of carpentry! I've spent far more hours watching your videos than i will probably ever spend doing drywall work, but I did so because you illustrate a *pride* in your craft, and importance of small details one the quality of a job well done. That makes you a person worthy to spend time with. Yes, perhaps that hasn't maximized your UA-cam earning potential. Personally, I'd *love* to see you expand your videos into carpentry - you are an excellent teacher, and I imagine there are years worth of lessons to be taught there. Regardless what you decide to do, thank you for the effort you've put into the videos you've created.

So I don’t watch your videos that often (sorry), but when I was renovating my basement, you saved my drywall. You showed me a skill (in which seems to takes years to master) and I am forever grateful for that.
You also said in your last video, if the “channels tanks …” dude, don’t even think like that! There’s no tanking, you’ve already created a ton of amazing videos and literally a drywall bible that people refer to, it’s helped so many people. You are never going to “tank”.
And honestly, we all just like watching you work too, you have this calming nature about you and it’s pretty cool.
    Take care!

Thank you for years of great content. I stumbled across your channel years ago when I had a door installed in my garage and I told the contractor I'd fix the drywall and trim it out myself to save him several trips and more appointments for me that I wanted to avoid. That is when I found your video "WHAT TO DO WHEN WALL STICKS OUT PAST DOOR JAMB!" Your videos no doubt shaped the way I tackled that little project and I was able to avoid a bunch of "beginner mistakes". I have to say thank you for your videos. To explain, my sons house was flooded by a poorly designed city drainage system. He asked me to come down and repair the house after the water mitigation people had cleaned up the water damage. All the exterior walls had been cut 3 feet from the floor and the closed cell foam that was used for insulation was removed. Now it was my turn. We decided to just butt the joints to the existing wall. The first sheet if 1/2" drywall I installed was not as thick as the existing drywall. They had installed the drywall over the foam without cutting it back to the studs. Very difficult butt joints to do. Thanks to your videos I was able to get the joints to look good enough to pass the visual test. definitely an uneven wall if a straight edge is used but the existing wall has dips of 1/8" or more anyway. I just wanted you to know that because you do videos on real jobs they prepare you for real world problems. Again thanks.

I was a Daddy’s girl through and through. The time he took to teach me has served me well throughout my life. He was raised on a mountain farm up in the Allegheny’s. His father had no qualms with the need for stereotypes so my Uncles and Aunts on that side learned to do whatever was needed. Guys who meet me now, can tell I was a Daddy’s girl, I can hold my own with them all these decades later 😂. I wish my maternal Uncle who was a master carpenter would have had the same set of ethics instead of thinking only boys needed to know. Keep up the great work!

Your videos mesmerize your viewers. I have learned so much from you over those years…and it has made me a much better at drywalling. Showing so you do virtually no sanding etc., has made mudding so much easier and enjoyable. I absolutely love mudding…I’m a DYI guy and have done basements etc, and everyone has been happy…but i do it for the fun and the experience and do not charge anyone. I love doing it, and it all results from you. You are the best…and you know it when all your viewers stand with you. When you make a video…i stop what I’m doing😂. The need to constantly create content becomes an obsession after a while and takes the fun out of whatever it is you're doing. And editing videos takes hours. When I go out with my drone to shoot videos I spend four or five hours shooting video with the drone and audio from my phone. Then I go home and spend hours synchronizing the audio and video from all the clips before I can even begin to edit the final video. Then I have to proof it, title it, write a description, and pick a thumbnail. It's almost like having another job. A job that pays terrible! :) I feel your pain. It's cool you're learning another language. In high school and college I learned Latin, Spanish, French, a little bit of German, and since I can read Latin I can also read a bit of Italian. I also follow some Brazilian UA-camrs so I practice reading Portuguese. And being in IT I meet a lot of people from other countries so I always try to greet them in their native languages. I can at least say good day in Korean, a couple different Indian dialects, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian and Arabic. Reading Russian is quite challenging. And there's nothing more important than spending time with your children, teaching them things, watching them grow into adults. I'm now remodeling the basement for one of my daughters and her husband to stay. They're having their first child and need to save money. So more work for me! But it's worth it.

Long comment here, get a snack. I came across your channel during Covid because the plumbing inside my wall had to be replaced, and it cost way more than the estimate so I decided to do the plaster repair myself. I watched a handful of your videos and got the job done and I’m really happy with it. I continued watching your videos even though I no longer needed to do any more work, and I continued watching because of you yourself. I even shared you with family members and friends because your work brings me that much joy. It’s incredibly gratifying to see somebody be really good at something, and humorous about imperfections, and honest. It’s motivating, I want to be better at what I do because I see how good you are. It’s very clear you take pride in your work, you aren’t just another influencer out there scrambling to make a quick buck on something you barely dabble in. What you do is art, and watching you work is legitimately mesmerizing. It’s easy to look back and wonder if you should’ve done something differently, but the way you’ve run your channel is what you felt best resonated with you at the time and what you were comfortable being. If you wanna do things differently now, there’s no shame in that. But at the same time, it’s totally cool for you to do whatever is best for your own well-being and your family. Your life shouldn’t be at the mercy of a bunch of strangers on the Internet who are watching your videos to add value to their own life. You’re an artist, not a robot. I’m fairly confident anybody here who’s watched even just one or two of your videos is better for it, and if anybody were to be upset about how you choose to run your own channel, they really aren’t somebody you should be worried about pleasing. I enjoy watching your channel because you seem to be very straightforward, the gimmicky ‘click on my videos’ marketing stuff is annoying to me. Catchy titles and thumbnails are silly IMO, but i suppose there’s a point to it all.
Anyway, what I’m trying to say is we like your content and we like you. Your health and happiness is important and you don’t need to explain yourself to us if you don’t want to, you also don’t have to keep doing videos if your spirit isn’t in it (we’d miss you, but it’s not about us). You do you Ben, we appreciate everything you’ve given. Anyone who doesn’t isn’t worth considering.

Just a thought. Your daughter might enjoy the memories of you teaching her as some of what you have created and together create for when you are gone with a few vids. I got back into Hot Wheels with my now 7 year old grandson and created a you tube channel Hot Wheels Head to Head Racing channel to do together, and to have something he can look back at when I'm gone and cherish some more great memories. What you do here is so helpful and teaching your daughter as bits and pieces of content and seeing her progress would be fun to see. As the rest of us are trying to progress watching and learning from your videos as well. Just a thought...

I liked you right away, and I couldn't put my finger on it until you mentioned skateboarding. I thought ah, he's a GenX skater like me, that's why. (OK, was more of a poser than a skater, but I can still do a kickflip)

I have never attended a Q & A, on any of the many sites I follow.
This is an Excellent Site , one of the very best on UA-cam.
Let your mind be still, the answers will come. If hesitating to do a Q&A. tells me it may not go smoothly for you.
Your videos are so good, so detailed,
not sure what folks need to ask.

Hey Ben, iv been watching your channel off and on for a while and enjoy your content you make every informative videos. Just an idea for more content, not sure it's something you would be interested in or think it would work for you. Recently I and been watching a channel cutting edge engineering, yes it's completely unrelated to vancouver drywallers content but after a month or so of watching that channel I had a realization. I usually watch it before bed as I am laying there. It's pretty much just a man doing ASMR. The way it is edited with the sounds as they are speeding up the video and most of it is just him working with pauses now and again to talk about what he is doing. Mainly his franna crane project is what i have been watching I think to just see the progress on the project but I could see something like that maybe working for you too. I dunno. Just a thought.
Also don't recorded the time with your daughter for youtube, maby for tour own memories but not for here. You don't want the time you spend with your kids to be taken over by creating content
Cheers from a fan over on vancouver island

I no longer know if a past friend is still alive.
      Life scatters us everywhere.
She despised her Mother so much, she hand painted on blanks of Limoges china.
Her mother having little spare time as she was a RN.
Had a kiln furnace in her basement, of the home she inherited.
From her mom and it just sat.
So, many throw so many wonderful talents, and arts away.
Personally, I would have loved to been taught by a true artisan.
      It’s always astounded me.
Ben would be the perfect Dad and Teacher.

Hey Ben,I have been subscribed to your channel for years. I have learned so much from watching them. I probably have watched most all of your videos. I have never before commented on any of them, I just soaked up the information and tried to incorporate it while doing my own drywall work. The last video I watched spoke to me because you talked about how doing un sponsored videos have been your style because you believe that your content is what you want your viewers and subscribers to see and not have it interrupted with sponsor adds. I think this is admirable however, it surprised me to also here that this choice has cost you considerable earnings over the years. you mentioned that as of yet, you and your family dont own a home. i think this is a little sad. Im not saying this in a hurt full manner. you mentioned that making this choice left considerable money on the table. I just wanted to say that even if your videos were sponsored. I would continue to watch all of them. i appreciate the honest content and info that you provide. Should you decide to ever go down that road, I would like to think that most, if not all of us would continue to watch and follow you. Perhaps with those extra dollars, that house might become a reality. Food for thought. Keep up the good work.

I can't find the original video you are referring to. would love to see it. it isn't on the recent videos in your library. I think you were weighing the value of UA-cam to your viewers, society, your family, you, and perhaps your dog. I live in NJ and the tradespeople here are friggin ridiculous expensive. they are all looking for 1200+ dollar paydays. I had a plumber quote me 10,500 bucks for a 2-1/2 day rough-in to an existing main soil pipe for 7 water using appliances which the boss master plumber would hand to his junior guys and he expected to require 2 workers (plumbing mechanic and a go-for dude). All in 40 man-hours of work equating to 250pp/ph supplies my extra. or 300 dollars to install a ceiling fan in an existing electrical box, or 3200 to tape and spackle 18 sheets already hung, simply madness. and it is infuriating because most of us American work for a modest job making a modest living and these tradespeople gauge and gauge. So to your videos ... thank the blessed lord you enable we working people to say no way to these expensive tradespeople. Really, your videos save hundreds of thousands of people thousands of dollars every year ... lets say 200,000 people per year feel emboldened by your tutorials to do the work themselves that would cost 1000 dollars. ... that is 200,000,000 dollars that you have saved the hard working homeowner. 200mm bucks. or amp it up with 630k subscribers ... if 2/3 do a DIY job which saves them 1000 bucks that brings it to 400mm. That is big time help for us all. or maybe you help someone build a business which feeds his family.
we all cannot thank you enough.
