cuz making hip hop beats isnt hard, all he has to do is drag a bunch of shit around at 2x speed, hes not flexing, everyone can just speed up time to make it seem like its easier to make a good beat
to be good at making beats is experience no doubt. everytime you make beats you get the feel of em and you find your sound and genre. no matter if its bad or good you still learn and that right there is experience. also knowledge is another key as the more you learn, the more you know.
i mean anything is easy when you're finally good at it. The hard part is getting there. I appreciate your ethic to just finish the beat no matter what. There's some hidden wisdom there
The thing abt overthinking man I wish I woulda realized that sooner lol. Used to do that a lot n I didn't realize how much time I wasted and how many decent beats I scrapped in the end. Making beats been so much easier (and fun) since I stopped overthinking.
I should do that more often I be stressing about how the beat gonna sound bad or how good it could sound but I should just go with the flow cause some of my best beats I never stressed on how good it could or did sound and went with the flow
Going with the flow can be very useful to let creativity flow, especially if you are in the zone but its also helpful to take some time and re listen to come up with new ideas, if you just rush though them you end up falling into your comfort zone always and your beats become repetitive and boring. If you are just trying to grind youtube and release as many decent tracks as you can fine but if you are trying to make something interesting you need to take your time. I usually have the body of a song in 2 or 3 hours but I spend the next week or so adding to it and changing things, I have made songs in a day and released them the same day before and they turned out good but my favourites are old scraps that I came back to after a while. Maybe beats are different but this is my thought process for full length songs and it works for me.
another tip, never ever delete something, you might find it ueful in the future. if you dont like something you made, save it and leave it in the backlog, you might come back to it some day.
Mane, when i tell you this video help me alot bro i FINALLY made my first full beat without sampling and using midis.and it actually came out fire. its nothing wrong with sampling and midis but i finally can say i made my own first full beat because i took your advice. i feel so good about myself. this would help alot of people who overthink alot and self judge themselves all the time. its the reason why i could NEVER made a simple chord. smh. ya advice means ALOT! thanks alot mane!
Good video g a lot of ppl tend to struggle with making melody in their head come to the piano roll and it’s really cuz overthinking. What bro said yall just gotta have some fun with it and it’ll click easier fr
don't most people usually use loops tho in todays day in age loops are like the common thing to use in songs your favorite artists definitely use loops that make number 1 hits it isn't nesscesarily making beats as loops are already made things for you to use but yeah it makes beats like way faster than normally creating them
@@cartercolson7975 making loops is just sampling in todays music production. Most people don’t care to learn how to make their own Melodie’s and rather put down some drums over a solid idea that’s catchy to the ear. Of course artists that everyone listens to has definitely been sent loops and they may or may have not made a hit song with them. Besides from the loop section of music, and sampling section of music, actually creating something from your own mind and not worrying about “oh this a so and so type beat” making your own Melodie’s allows you to bring your own creativity to the overall production of a beat/song once complete. Everything everyone makes is their own interpretation of the music/sounds they listen to with their own extra ideas in mind. Just understanding how to make Melodie’s that you find enjoyable and that others find enjoyable though will allow you to learn how people make the loops you wanna hear. However, this is my opinion and view of making music. If you’re aiming to make music to try and send music to your fav artist, rather than just trying to make something for yourself and learn something new while being creative it’s also different. I got respect for both areas of music and I genuinely just like to make what comes to my mind. Learning and understanding how to create what I’m hearing in my mind is what makes it so enjoyable to me, but to each their own of course.
@@cartercolson7975 Someone still has to make those loops. In the end is better to make your own instead of scrolling through loops to find a good one. Thats just lazy.
i think its cause when newcomers see a finished beat they just assume it takes hours and hours just to make one thing when in reality you just add stuff as you go, not add everything at once
i agree.. the whole song creation process requires no thinking. even writing and mixing its the same mindest. everytime i go with the flow it ends uo better
Great video honestly When I come back to beats I’ve made that I really like and can listen to over n over, all those times it’s felt like a flow state where I was just doing and not thinking much
you arent just drawing _anything_ down; *you already understand music theory..* which is why it appears that you arent overthinking but *you are actually doing alot of thinking.*
My problem is when I try to bring originality to the table of what music i'm making I tend to try and build sounds instead of looking through presets which is kinda dumber but I feel like it helps me understand a certain respect for making music.
He's not gonna tell yall this but he has a clear and solid understanding of music theory behind all of this. You dont need to be like mozart or anything but if you have a solid grasp on the fundamentals of music theory and how chords and melodies work coming up with a chord progression, melody, drum pattern and 808 pattern becomes second nature because you know whats going to work at that point it just becomes a feeling and you can stop overthinking everything and just play. When he says stop making the excuse of idk music theory.. ima tell you go fucking study and put what you learn to practice you have google.. all the info is right there.. go read.

Blaring detail abt this I have to mention though is that this approach of making a melody is by ear. Some ppl have that sense, some ppl have perfect pitch, some ppl don't have anything. The less comfortable u are with just free styling it, chances are the more you'll need to actually study theory/chords in general. (But tbh the chances are that most of us can. Few beginners want to screw around in a DAW without any sense for anything like that) Also huge detail, consider exploring audio packs/foreign VSTs, cause none of that was native.
