Art business planning can be incredibly intimidating and scary, it's not easy taking that leap and working toward your dream!
Setting goals and planning your art career when you're working towards taking your business full time can take a lot of work, but it's fairly straightforward: focus on marketing your art, building your income streams, etc.
In this video, I'll take you behind the scenes into my Notion workspace as I plan the future of my art business trying to figure out how to turn my early success into a sustainable career that lasts over time!

I absolutely love your system! As an artist with adhd game plans are so important to my life but also so hard to maintain all at the same time. seeing your notion however makes it look so much more simple than what i would set up in mine lol. thank you for being so open with your strategies and situations!
My problem with starting isn’t that I don’t got ideas. But I have so many inspirations, ideas, plans that I want to do but feel like I have no time for!!!
I want to do it all, but I get overwhelmed then do none of it. I want to create for socials but feel so awkward and anxious to start. Then I look at all the amazing artists on socials and feel so drowned out by all the skilled artists.

I was digital illustrator and made money via commission only .then i had so much self doubt and quit , somehow in my UA-cam suggestions you were there. i found few of these planning videos and made a notion template for the first time. This is so good to see in action! Dividing the year up into quarters with achievable goals seems so much more manageable than conceptualizing an overarching goal across 1 long year. I hope you have a safe and smooth move to California! That's gonna be such a huge change from Alaska, Minnesota, or NYC in weather alone, hahaha 😆

I just found you this morning and I absolutely love your energy!! I’m a singer who also really loves art/fashion and wanna break myself out of the box I’ve put myself in to make all of that my full-time career. Your videos are super helpful & motivating. When I saw you set the goal to reach 50k by August and see that you’re at 51k now, in June, I was like “ahhhh you crushed it!!!” I really like your mindset on goals as well, how you reframe them, move them if they aren’t met right away without trouble (I struggle with beating myself up abt it), so thank you! Girl i hear u. I get overwhelmed if i dont achieve a goal, and then its like screw everything. You just have to keep pushing that rock uphill. On the way up, some nice things will happen and make it worth it
If something is too intimidating, break it down to something you can do everyday or even once a week. You don't have to do everything all at once, just little by little and you'll get there.
Well your stuff is super helpful and sets realistic expectations for an art career. I hope you make that 100K I will definitely be subbing!

I recommend doing what you enjoy. If you really do want to give it a go, you don’t know until you try! I’ve been procrastinating starting an art yt channel and consistently posting for the past year because I doubted my skills and I don’t have the right equipment for a traditional set up. So I went digital instead :)) I finally took the leap of faith and now I have three videos up 🤍 good luck with whatever you choose to do

Hello do you prefer drawing with a pencil or pen. I’m trying to figure out which one to start with. Also, any recommendations what to draw for beginners or where to start? Thanks!
Pencil is easiest and gives you the most control & means of erasing!
Might be easier to implement 1 day off, then 2, then 3, rather than jump straight from working 7 days a week to 4. Also do you plan to keep a regular schedule like Monday to Thursday work, Friday/Saturday/Sunday off? Or be flexible about which days you take off each week? Like it might be the weekend one week and Tuesday Wednesday and Friday the next? Just curious.
yeah the plan is definitely gradual implementation! not sure re: schedule, I'll probably keep things relatively regularly scheduled but flexible enough that I can pivot if I need to
Hey! What would you recommend between Notion and Obsidian?
I've heard of Obsidian but haven't tried it, but I really genuinely do love Notion. Obsidian runs off of plain text files so if you want tables and databases that can talk to each other like I have in my workspace then you might not want Obsidian? There are prob good review vids out there from other creators!

Do you have long-term goal planning or something like a "career roadmap" in Notion? Or is your roadmap a 1 year and divided into quarters (as shown in the video)?

I wish I would have started so much earlier, but heck...I didn't even know that I possessed those artistic skills until a couple of years ago, lol.
I have to say, that this all looks great and inspiring, but I think I speak for a lot of parents with young kids....this is not going to work for us in the numbers or time frames that may work for peeps without little humans.
In my other videos on this topic I don’t use months/years and just use the term “phase” which I think is more inclusive for folks in your position! Take things at your own pace and work on it when you can. Consistency is the key thing here 💗

I'm too much of a workaholic to only work 4 days a week, I think I would just get bored and end up working anyway lol

I find you personally super dedicated and extremely likeable. :) I'm sure many people will benefit from your videos. But I personally have to say that in my eyes you propagate a very unhealthy lifestyle. Of course, it's primarily about showing people how to make money with art. But my impression is rather that art is something you rarely have time for anymore, because you have to shoot tutorials and edit, etc.
I like watching your videos, but they made me understand that I don't want to live and work like you do. But I hope you will be happy with this choice and wish you all the best! :)
I don't have a ton of time for art right now because I'm currently moving across the country and was building up my income streams to take my creative practice full time, but I'll be making much more time for my art going forward once I'm settled in my new space! Sometimes my business goes through phases where I have to prioritize certain things above others.
@@KelseyRodriguez Oh please, don't get me wrong! Everyone should do what is best for oneself. There is no need to justify yourself for it. :) It was just my personal feedback after watching many of your videos. There were valuable lessons to be learned. But I realized while watching that this would not be a life concept for me. I would have too little time for what I care about most: painting and drawing. And I would have too much to do with stuff I don't like (e.g. editing). As a consequence, I would make my living by telling people how to make money with art instead of actually making money with art. But as I said: This is something for everyone to decide individually. Anyway, you opened my eyes, even if maybe in a way you didn't expect. Thanks for that anyway. :)
Everyone have different ways of achieving goals however what kelsey Is doing is absolutely great for her even though my own working style is different than her!
I think a lot of people might not like to hear a bitter truth but the truth is that in order to succeed and also being popular on UA-cam........you really need to stand out from others with a very good planning that is realistic and achievable!!
It's the same as how millions of people are youtubers but very few of them are highly successful! Kelsey is only sharing whatever knowledge she have about art business......she never said to follow the exact path as she did.
Me as an audience watch kelsey videos to support her in her artistic journey because I know that I'm not yet as passionate as her but I can still support her because I simply like her videos without needing to incorporate her working style in my art journey!
