Excellent reinterpretation of Pat Metheny's classic composition from the late great Michael Brecker's brilliant Time Is Of The Essence recording made during their legendary collaboration, James Francies and Marcus Gilmore do a fantastic job playing the Larry Goldings & Bill Stewart organ / drum parts.
Great to hear a Hammond organ in modern jazz... I almost forgot how much soul and drive it brings to the music. Reminds me of my first discovery of Jimmy Smith records. Great track!

Pat Metheny's latest offering on his own label certainly does not disappoint on the quality of the music. Even the reworking of the 5 classics is commendable, filling 30 mins of the album with exemplary guitar work from Pat . James Francies's organ is a notable inclusion interspersed with his Synth and piano work. Gilmore is solid on drums with much 'cymbalism ' that we know Pat loves .
3 New tracks make up the remaining 32 minutes the pinnacle for me being 'It Starts When We Disappear'
Considering the reworked tracks, the album would appear to be on the short side and could have done with a few more tracks to make up for that (*80mins the norm )
Hence it gets 4 stars from me and I will certainly never stop buying or playing his music or following his musical direction as he is one of a few that I have followed for over 50 years religiously and he continues to break new ground admirably while not ashamed to retrace his musical roots and extend their lives .

What a great sound! A real classic vibe but still retaining that unique tone and phrasing I've grown to love Metheny for. Takes me back to his Questions & Answers project, this is another must-have. Would love to see this trio live.
