Movie: Castle of Cagliostro, no contest. watched it 4 times. don't think I've enjoyed a movie so much in years
Show: Infinity Train. I needed cartoons, I needed cartharsis, I think it gave me both.
Book: Harrow the ninth. it's been sticking in my head. and I think it will keep doing so for a while.
Music: The Comet is Coming. Nu-jazz, really hits my need for noise.

My favourites of 2021:
TV Series of the year was Mortel on Netflix, season 2 came out this year and I binge-watched it from season 1. Loved it, am now on a campaign to get Season 3.
Movie was probably either Dune, or Zach Snyder's Justice League.
Book was the Gideon's Sword. About to read the rest of the series.
Podcast was Rotten Mango, been on a true crime binge lately.
Game was nothing actually, I haven't really been playing anything other than mobile games like Love Nikki.
Music was mainly Little Mix this year, but my favourite from all of these was Heartbreak Anthem.

Close second: Book of Sun. Never in a million years would I have thought a movie would depict my life as an Arab Gulf highschooler so accurately.

Happy New Year! Here are my biggest favourites from the year
Movie: Promising Young Woman
Seeing it as the only person in the cinema was An Experience...
Book: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
I read it after seeing the movie in March and fell in love with it; the story is quite different to the movie, but I actually love them both!
Podcast: Rebel Robin - Surviving Hawkins (produced by Lauren Shippen)
I think this one suprised me the most. I do usually prefer fictional narrative podcasts to non-fiction but spin-off media from big franchises can be really hit or miss. However, this short, 6-episode companion podcast to Stranger Things picked its format, setting and themes perfectly to capture what growing up queer in a small town can feel like. I'm also a massive nerd for English literature +analysis, so the intertextual use of classic texts to frame each episode was fun and clever. I've relistened to the series a few times through already. (I even bought the book it's promotion for, but it really just solidified how good this podcast and it's format is. The YA novel is a bit formulaic, but with this podcast Shippen was able to create something innovative and enjoyable by all ages.)
Movie: Spiderman No Way Home (Dune was also fantastic)
TV Show: Loki (Digimon Ghost game is also pretty good)
Book: Dune by Frank Herbert (Spiderlight by Adrian Tchaikovski was also a great read)
Podcast: N/A (I listened to zero podcasts all year)
Song: Neo Tokyo by Scandriod (there was the remix of Guard Down from Half Life by Morch Kovalski and also the remix of Corneria from Star Fox by Qumu that I loved)
Game: Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition (I played that game for over 900 hours this year)

Limited Series: The Beatles Get Back documentary - Peter Jackson (anyone interested in the Beatles, or popular music history in general, should really watch this)

Movie: Nobody. I was so stoked when I saw the trailer and it did not disappoint.
TV show: Loki. I only really watched the two Marvel mini series because I realized I didn't have homework anymore. Both were great, Loki stood out.
Book: Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore. This beat Rainbow Rowell's Attachments, which is ridiculous for me, but it was a genuine mind trip. Lize, I totally get your love for Mexican Gothic. It was part of my flipping out in 2020 over all the great stories I couldn't get over.
Game: Water Connection
Music: Good Luck, Kid by Joseph. Audiobooks have reigned supreme for a bit. I slept on this album for 2 years, but I love this band. They released a live-ish performance album in response to COVID shutting down touring and a clip of that brought me to the live album. That brought me to the this album and it's been on repeat for weeks.

The podcast that got me hooked this year is Old Gods of Appalachia. So good!
I feel very lucky I know of Jake's channel for videos like this despite him never promoting it in any of the things he works on.
TV Show: The Mandalorian. Actual good Disney Star Wars. It was also the only show I watched.
Movies: Probably Star Wars 4-6 are the ones I watched the most.
Book: The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. A very scary, dark and also hopeful vision of the future.
Podcast: The WheezyNews Podcast. Especially with Craig and Chyna.
Game: The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos. It's a mod and definitely the best video-game-related thing released this year.
