Glad you're ok! Those of us that know this song will immediately flash back to Family Ties.
Yep lol
Bingo lol
Immediately
Omg, Alex and Ellen and the shelf breaking! 🥹
You are so right!!!! 😀
The saxophone player in the yellow shirt is my brother in law! His name is Lon Price.
🤘❤️
That man can blow a horn ...dang....
Tell Lon he owes $5 from back in the day
Haven't heard this song in FOREVER!
My generation will always connect this song with the TV show Family Ties. This is like the ultimate breakup song!
Yes it is forever tied to Family Ties
Yes!
I remember recording it on a cassette tape from the tv! 💜💜💜
@@jackieknows9129 Okay, I was just going to make a similar comment!!! Cheers!
💯
I love the irony that one of the most heartbreaking sitcom storylines led to one of the best true-life love stories. Michael & Tracy Forever 💛🙂
I KNEW you guys would love this one! Beautiful song.
"If you'd stay, I'd subtract 20 years from my life. I'd fall down on my knees, kiss the ground that you walk on if I could just hold you again." That is a man in love in pain.
Billy Vera and the Beaters are one the greatest R&B horn bands ever! This may also be the ultimate break-up song!
And one of the last 20th Century songs to be a hit on the pop, r&b and country charts.
@user-gt2uf8cq9y Wow, great to know! I knew it was a hit on the Pop/Rock and R&B charts, but not the Country chart. Tracking songs was a thing for me growing up, but I lost my way while I was at university a couple of years. I began again when I got my first record store job.
This song will forever remind me of Michael J Fox and Family Ties. I love it so much!
Couldn't agree more with the first sentence. But I really, really hate this song.
@@chrisharris7931 : Don’t listen to it then!
LOL! I was literally just about to say that! I can still picture the scene in the train station...
Me too. I will never forget that episode.
Yes, definitely where I heard it first!
This song was used on the 80's TV show "Family Ties". It was played during a show when Michael J. Fox's character and his girlfriend broke up. This song was a hit from day one. A one hit wonder though.
Yes, great recall! definitely the place where I heard it first....was such a good and moving episode!
It was a hit once it was used on the TV show, but was actually released a few years earlier and did nothing on the charts.
Ironically, Mr. Fox married the actress who portrayed his ex - Traci Pollan. They are still married to this day. On the show, his new love interest was played by Courtney Cox -fresh off her appearance in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark " video. I am so old.😢
I did not know that. I wish I had seen
@@curtismartin2866 don't worry, I'm old too🙂
Often overlooked was that this was recorded as a LIVE performance.
When Richie Cunningham from Happy Days heard that dude’s sax from the episode of Family Ties he immediately left the show…🤣
and that was LIVE!
This brings me back to the 80's, I would like to go back
This song still gives me the chills, 40 years later...wow
I was 10 when this song appeared on Family Ties. I remember I thought this song is what love must feel like.
YES! I’ve been waiting 3 years for you to get to this song. This might be my favorite one hit wonder of all time.
While this was Billy Vera's only hit as a solo artist he also had a hit with 'Storybook Children' sung as duo with Judy Clay.
I could not be happier to see you react to this song. Not just due to the weather, but because this song is so wonderful.
Such an iconic song!! Ellen and Alex's love song♥♥♥ Billy Vera also did the King of Queens theme song!
This song still makes me teary eyed. Takes me back to the sad scene from Family Ties when Alex’s heartbreak over Ellen. 😢
But, today know that they met over that scene , married, had children and still together, even through Michael’s illness. May God continue to have many many more years together.
God bless everyone. 🙏❤️
Back in the 80s to think we just thought good music like this would go on like this forever we need another wave of the musicians like we had back in the day more than ever especially in these times
This song has a great story. “At This Moment “ was originally released in 1981. It peaked at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then in 1985 , “Family Ties” used the song. The song was re-released in 1986 at was a #1 Pop and Adult Contemporary hit.
I don’t understand. How can it be released in 81, but peak in 79?
@@timschultz7860 in 1981, it peaked at #79 on the pop chart.
Well that makes more sense. I thought you were talking about a time-traveling song for a second there.
The live version of this song _is_ the quintessential version. Isn’t it amazing?
Here Comes the Dawn Again (live)- Billy Vera and the Beaters. A wonderful song!!!!!!
As others have said this was released a few years earlier and then given a huge push when it was used on the enormously popular sitcom "Family Ties" as a backdrop for uptight, very Republican Alex Keaton (Michael J. Fox) declaring his love for the free-spirited Ellen Reed (Tracy Pollan) after fighting his feelings for most of the season and then racing to the train station hours away to stop her from marrying someone else.
What adds an extra bit of charm to the story is that Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan fell in love while she was guesting on the show, married in real life shortly after, had three children together and are still together today though Fox struggles mightily with Parkinson's disease.
Yes! They are truly a beautiful love story!
Watched his documentary a while back and just fell more in love with them ❤
Don't forget it was Alex "P." Keating! Cannot do without the P!
in uptight you mean a free thinker who didn't want to go along with the BS , lies and deception that was and still is being push at the citizens of the U S A . asking to make sure we are ALL clear
@@Carrie-so3roKeaton
@@jeffmattson5766 Yes, you are absolutely right. Sorry.
Been waiting for 2+ years for you guys to hear/listen/react to this masterpiece! :)
As many have mentioned the Family Ties connection, the best thing about it to me, the actress who played Fox's love interest is his wife to this day.
Aw, this isn't the single version. It was also live, but it's the best version. This song was featured on the TV show "Family Ties" a couple of times in the 80's. If not for that, this song never would've been well known. It shot up to #1, thanks to that show.
The radio stations near Atlanta played this live version and this was the video they played on MTV, so I assumed it was the single version. Thank you for the info.
@@MRoyClark I bought the single back in the day. In the pause at the end, you can hear people cheering & someone saying "Alright, Billy!" 🙂
Yeah all of the reaction channels always choose this version, not sure if maybe because it comes up first in the search results or something… wish some would react to the original single version
Wonderful. Never heard it before. The power of perfect musicianship and singing.
Billy Vera and one of the most beautiful, yet heart wrenching songs you can ever hear. Anyone that has been thru a break up knows this song hits hard, and always will. It was a masterpiece when it came out, and still holds up today. Those of us that watched Family Ties, and that scene when Alex Keaton's girlfriend breaks up with him, will never forget that scene. Thanks for reviving such a classic hit, its one of the best
This is his biggest hit. His one number one hit. Such a moody song and his voice is perfect.
The ultimate heartbreak song. 😢😭💔
The more popular version is one he sings live in front of an audience that interacts with his performance, it's even BETTER then this one if you can imagine that.
This song tears your heart to pieces!
Gorgeous performance!!!!!!
Yes, it was awesome.
This song is filled with such heartache. If you ever have felt this pain, you relive it every time you hear this sing. Thank you for doing this review.
Makes me cry every time I hear it.
I can’t tell you how excited I am that you’re listening to this! I discovered it this year and it’s amazing!
Love this song.
Fun fact:
Billy Vera appears as Pinky Carruthers in the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and some, if not all of his band (the Beaters) appear as members of Buckaroo Banzai's band (the Hong Kong Cavaliers). Pretty good star studded movie if you like sci-fi comedy.
Oh yes..this is a great song!!!
AHHhhhh... ain't it SOOOOO SPECIAL when y'all don't know what awaits you & you find out IN REAL TIME that IT'S SPECTACULAR, LEGENDARY, & BEAUTIFUL ALL AT ONCE??? Yup... THIS a WORK OF ART & IT does it for me!!!! OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!! The LYRICISM, the OUTSTANDING INSTRUMENTATION, the VOCALIST (Billy Vera... (pause)... "YOU DA MAN!!!! YOU DA MAN, OH BILLY!!!!"). AND... THAT SAX... THAT WONDEROUS SAXOPHONE!!!! CHEF'S KISSES ALL DAY, EVERY DAMN DAY!!!! WHEWWwwww.... God must've BLESSED the WHOLE BAND AFTER THEY RECORDED THIS SONG!!!! 'Cuz it sounds HEAVENLY!!!! Check out Billy Vera's catalog of hits... I'm sure YOU won't regret it!!!! I look forward to many more reactions from your channel in the future!!! Peace, Love, & Liberty. MIC DROP 🎤.
Haven't heard this song in at least 20 years or more, and I still love it and remember it just as if I heard it yesterday. Fantastic song!
One of the greatest one hit wonders. After this great song, I thought he would have a bigger career, especially with that amazing song. This is on a CD I entitled Heartbreak.
One of my favorite songs of all time
One of the BEST songs ever written. Highly underrated
I have been asking for this reaction for almost 2 years. NO ONE reacts to it!! For me, THIS is the BEST song of all time. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I just love it when y'all love the songs I love!!❤
This is the best version of this beautiful song…those Saxes really are Fire also!
Such a heartbreaking song.😢
The idea the person you loved so much suddenly doesn't love you is frikken heartbreaking.
I cannot listen to this without tearing up. Being dumped sucks! Billy Vera is great in this.
If I recall, this was in the tv sitcom Family Ties with Micheal J Fox.
Jay, Amber stay safe and may God bless you and your family.
I remember the first time I heard this song. Thought he was black.🤷🏽♀️ it was my favorite song for a while. Love you reaction!!
Wow I haven’t heard this song in years.
This song is near & dear to my heart. My friend, Scotty, who passed away a couple of years ago used to sing this to me when we were karaoking. Still makes me cry every time I hear it but brings back precious memories as well! ❤
I was a kid when this song played on”Family Times” and my older sisters were so emotional listening to it. Next day one of them bought the 45(the 80’s, guys) and I wasn’t a huge fan because my brother had “cooler” records… rock, punk, jazz, etc…, but it eventually grew on me. Decades later, a woman that I loved with every part of my being told me one day that she “just didn’t love me anymore” and she waited for me to be angry and cruel for some reason and all I could do is hear this in my head. I remember just looking at her and telling her that I loved her but I couldn’t hurt her because she didn’t love me back. Every time I hear this song now I think of that moment and can understand why my sisters were moved. I can also understand that you just can’t understand some songs until you REALLY experience them. Thanks for listening to this. Once again you guys are awesome.
A beautiful song about a place you never want to be!
Amber is suffering from a case of the vapors. Jay, get her a towel with some water. She might just pass out.
Next up, STRENGTH by the Alarm.
FORGET ME NOT by Bad English.
JUST ANOTHER NIGHT by Mick Jagger.
TALK TO ME by Fiona.
I'M NOT PERFECT (BUT I'M PERFECT FOR YOU) by Grace Jones.
JUST ONCE or ONE HUNDRED WAYS by James Ingram.
LOVE HANGOVER by Diana Ross.
You guys are the best. Keep going and enjoy
That's Blue Eyed Soul!!! I knew Amber would love that saxophone!!!!
That was the song back in the day 😄
Oh maaannnnnnn this song...❤
Uggh...The Heartbreaker! This one I remember mostlt for making junior high school girls cry. Ugggh.
Great song.
The line, "if you'd stay I'd subtract 20 years from my life", is so profound to me.
A one hit wonder, but what a great song! Love your reactions
You can feel the sadness in his voice like you can feel the anger in Phil Collins voice with, In The Air Tonight. Both sang their songs the most perfect way possible. Peace and brother love to you and all.
LOVE that you included this GEM!
There was a song from my childhood that my family had on 45rpm record titled "Storybook Children" by a male and female duet, released in the late 1960s. It was a shock to me when as an adult I looked the song up and saw that it was by Billy Vera and Judy Clay. I had to check to confirm that this was the same Billy Vera who did "At This Moment." It was.
The 80's in Southern California was a great time for music. Billy Vera and Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, (also worth checking out) were club bands we used to see all the time. When the Producers of Family Ties decided to put this song in the show, they blew up across the nation.
One of my All time favorite songs!❤❤❤❤
Billy Vera was a one hit wonder. As many listeners will tell you, this song will always be closely associated with the popular sitcom, Family Ties. It was played after a sad break-up scene on the show. That would make for an interesting video. In real life, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan got married and still are. After the audience heard it on the show, they turned it into a hit by popular demand.
Such an emotional song... and forever tied to those of us older generation folk who watched the NBC sitcom "Family Ties" with Michael J Fox. For YEARS after this ... every time Michael and his wife would make an appearance, the house band would play this song for them - and he got SO sick of hearing it. (Not sure if they still feel this way about it today)
Billy Vera and the Beaters - such an amazing one-hit wonder.
I was doing fine this morning until about 3/4's of the way through this song and suddenly my heart broke again -- currently trying to get through some personal heartbreak and this just reminds me that I'm still broken. Maybe I just needed that today.
This is some serious shit for those in the throws of heartache
Always loved this song, he’s got an incredible voice…beautiful. 💙💖🌸🌸
this is such a fun story because, as I understand it, these guys were basically just a local bar band who'd never have gotten a national break if someone connected with the show hadn't decided to use this song (guess he'd just heard them play or something - total serendipity)
A song that will always give me chills
Jay and Amber, so glad you’re OK in OK!
Glad you liked Billy Vera, who turns 80 this month. This song was initially released in 1981 but only hit #79. It was then used on Family Ties as a love song during the 1985/86 season and then re-released, going all the way to number 1 in January 1987. Check out one of his only other top 40 hits, I Can Take Care Of Myself.
My eyes fill with tears, every time I hear this song, even after all these years.😢
Yep. In Tears after the first few words. Lol. Dang.
Great reaction! I've been waiting patiently for you guys to hit this one. I'm glad you liked it. He's awesome. Take care and Thunder up!
This song rips my heart to shreads!!!
Speaking of live, Luther Vandross singing "A House Is Not A Home" to Dionne Warwick at the NAACP Image Awards Is Perfection.
The best version of this magnificent song❤
Outstanding reaction to an outstanding song!
Uh, belly belly.Hate her.Yeah, no I everybody locked it back in the day.Enjoy it, enjoy it.I think it sounds good but it's renowned and I'm slightly.Amongst us a l I'll , I'll grain a grain machine
First time I've heard this in a long time. A great song.
One of THE best one hit wonders of the 80’s! Literally takes me back to the show Family Ties in the 80’s. Truly a gem.
This was a one hit wonder, but WHAT a ONE HIT WONDER!!!!! It was practically everywhere, radio, tv, I think performed live on New Year's Eve specials! If you're going to have one hit, this is a great one!
This song famously featured on a Family Ties episode was just the beginning of Billy Vera's affiliation with sitcoms; he would later perform the theme song for The King of Queens.
I had forgotten how excellent this song is! :>)
OMIGOD!! i have been trying to get you to react to this for years!! One of the most moving versions of a song by anyone -- Anywhere.. Loved by everyone of all races I guess it's true, good things come to those who wait!!
This song touches the soul.
This song and performances always brings tears to my eyes. A very sad situation.
The tears in me are rolling
Billy Vera and the Beaters was a GREAT 1 hit wonder. His voice is fantastic.
So glad your family is safe and we can enjoy this classic with you!
i haven't heard this song in long time still one my favorites this was emotional powerful love song you get to hear this anymore like back in the 1980's good times with music.
Suggestions for Billy Vera are "Hopeless Romantic", "Between Like and Love" and his version of "With Pen in Hand".
Billy Vera and the Beaters or Billy Vera as a solo artist had their biggest hit with "At This Moment". Thanks for your reaction.💜
I find that Here Comes The Dawn is the only song that for me outshines this one, which is a huge feat itself.
How many times can I hit LIKE for this song I loved from the first time it came out.
This was a phenomenal dance song back in the day. 😁
Vera has a great voice, so it's amazing that this was a one-hit wonder.
The one thing I hate about social media and the new generation is they are missing stuff like this. I know this song served as the breakup song for a lot of people. I know I’m not the only one who went through something and just put on a song and played it to death or until I felt a little better. My daughter recently went through a broken engagement and was like 🤷🏽♀️ what do I do. I told her to just sit down, put on some Michael Bolton and just meditate. I’ve done it a million times. This song is also great for those times.
The bass from the horns gets right in your belly.
Oh yessssss. This is a great song. Love it! ❤
No one would have known of this song if not for Michael J Fox & the TV Show Family Ties. A very good song.
❤! Hadn't heard this forever!! It is a sad and beautiful song.
This song was the theme to the series Family Ties television show. The song played as Michael J. FOX danced with his tv girl friend/ ended up his later wife in real life. This song was really their love song One of my favorites. Thank you guys for this memory.
