Hey Josey, hope you are doing well. it's been quite a rough year, so you propably had plenty of things to deal with, but hopefully we can expect more AAR's in the future. the quality of your videos is really unmatched, so I hope you will continue making content. Thank you for all the effort you put into these!
I've been on the receiving end of that in a scenario and it's quite amazing. I was sitting agog just muttering "you little bastards!". They can take a track out, I learned the hard way....
Wonderful video, would love to see more like it in the future! As an aside, please don't feel pressured to make videos of huge battles, it's a pitfall I've seen other content creators fall into, thinking that singleplayer battles needs to be huge to be interesting to watch. I feel that smaller battles are just as interesting, and lets you get down to a level where more "personal" stories can be found that would otherwise be glossed over during grand maneuvers. Just my two cents, thanks for the content!
@sproge2142 I prefer company sized engagements as a general rule as I think they give a nice balance between the personal and the epic. I agree that bigger does not always mean better and that smaller engagements let me talk about squads and sub-teams whereas bigger battles force me to talk about platoons and companies. Smaller engagements are also quicker to play and quicker to turn into videos. In short, no worries I hear you. You'll see more small to medium sized battles from me than large battalion manoeuvres. Thanks for the comment.
@@joseywales3848 great, i can't wait to watch more! As long as you play whatever makes you happy and motivated to make videos I'll see it as the ultimate win. Much love

just finished watching every single one of your videos. you have clear and concise commentary and are very good at picking interesting moments of action and recording from good angles. Excellent story telling skills. Thanks for the great content.
I must agree with you about the time loss at Chernevka. 10 minutes more and you would have been easily able to sweep the rest of Ugly from the the left flank with 1st Company. But do not forget the Panther platoon would still have showed up at the same time and stalled your infantry advance and might caused even more casualties, as they would have been caught moving in the open.
Great video as always Josey. Hard day for panzer crews. One thing I noticed was that there were quite a few crewmen in the panzers who survived the destruction of their tank. Usually I suffer a total crew loss when a Soviet 122mm or 152mm shell penetrates the tank. A glaring weakness in Soviet JSU and SU assault guns and tank destroyers is their lack of a machine gun that can be fired from inside the vehicle. I have found that they are usually dispatched fairly easily with panzerschreck teams. Considering how much has been made of the lack of an MG in the first Elefants I am surprised not more has been made of this weakness in large Soviet AFVs. Even Stalin tanks have no bow MG. Not good against the Germans who not only have Schrecks but Fausts as well. Hope to see more Ost Front videos from you. Good whiskey drinking entertainment.
Thanks Mark, I'm just starting to learn the Soviet AFV's but already I've noticed that the lack of an MG on the ISU-122's is a problem. One of the assault guns was indeed taken out by a Panzerfaust which may not have happened had a bow MG been present. Another one had it's main armament destroyed so was rendered completely ineffective, at least if it had an MG it could still support and infantry assault. Glad you enjoyed.
This is one of those scenarios where I really wish the soviets had more artillery. Feels like so many scenarios only give you mortars which is strange considering how much arty the soviets used.
AT guns are maddeningly resistant to mortar barrages (also mounted MuG42s for some reason), but it usually buys you some time. in CMBN I nearly always have to use tanks with HE to shut them down . Although you didn't get to take Ugly, it made me feel a bit better because 2nd objectives are usually extremely hard to do for me, usually I get drained by the 1st! . Luckily the VPs were weighted such that the German side did not get occupy points. Contested Occupy zones are always worth a try if the VPs are set up this way. I wish more scenarios did it like this.
It was fascinating watching that amazing battle play out, and competently fought by you; despite the tactical victory! I have to think that the German armor didn't do their side much favor despite the Panthers temporaily throwing you off and causing significant damage. The StuGs were completely wasted. I have to think if all those tanks had held back and fought you intelligently from cover and at distance, instead of impetuously charging directly up to you across open ground, this battle may not have ended as well for the Soviets.... Oh well - no use speculating now! Enjoy that well-earned vodka!!
Thanks and yes, although the Panthers took me off guard, ultimately I was able to overcome them with several armoured vehicles still intact. If the Panthers occupied keyhole positions in Ugly then, combined with the AT guns I think that final objective would have not been possible to take with the force I had. However, it's also about balance. In my mind, if the designer had but the armoured vehicles in more defensive positions, then he would have to had less of them to keep the scenario playable.
@@joseywales3848 Keeping them in cover would have also meant potentially being able to pick them off at range, which is viable but not as fun as tearing your hair out at a panther platoon tearing your army to shreds.

I agree, the scenario designer has done a good job though. If the Panthers had just been put in static defensive positions I don't think this scenario would have been winnable for the Soviets.
