- When we think of explorers we think of the Sea Snake and Elissa Farman, who had an urge to discover. Or Nymeria and the Rhoynish refugees, who were forced into seeking new lands. Notably these names are all nobles. They had their own ships, their own crews, their own funding, and all the security and safety that brought with it. Our subject today is Lomas Longstrider, who explored farther and wider than any of the above individuals, without any of their advantages. But even more interesting than the character of Lomas are the locations he visited… or may have visited. In this episode we’ll discuss what he dubbed “Wonders Made by Man”.

The bridge of volanis seems to be directly inspired by the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy. It's a medieval bridge spanning a river and hosting shops, homes, vendors etc.
Guys can you pls one day talk about Young Griff. He is so interesting. Love y’all
Great great stuff. I think the mazes are surely one. And the five forts!
Finally caught up to the latest vid! Missed this live. Hope I can catch the one next week.
Edit: Aziz saying the Wall was 7 ft high. I imagine Tormund and the Hound/Mountain (if one of them ever gets North) staring at each other over the opposite sides of the Wall. 😂
no livestream this current week but Lomas #2 will be the sunday afterwards :)
Fun to see that you've caught up! Thanks for the comments, we've been noticing your progress!
Loved this live stream thanks, looking forward to diving into the next one
Going off the discussion that massive chunks of The Wall will still stand after it's been breached... that links me back to the 'rumour' the Five Forts were all carved from one giant block. Maybe the Five Forts were salvaged and repaired into Five from one large block like The Wall. It might be GRRM giving us a precursor to the events The Wall is about to go through, like the precursors he has already given us surrounding the Long Night, Azor Ahai and The Others.
He may be teasing us about what The Wall will become by giving us the Five Forts.
Good theory!
Love 💕 Shaun’s kitty 🐈⬛
i love all three of them! =D (also, it's Sean btw)
Awesome!! I wake to this treat. Wooooot. ❤
On the map north of Yi Ti, does anyone know what the gargantuan deep depressions are? One looks like a huge footprint and immediately to its east, just west of a mountain range, is something running north to south that’s reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. I don’t recall hearing anything about these denominal terrain features. I’d call the “footprint” a plateau except it’s essentially an inverted plateau.
Gondors highest wall is also 700 feet tall
oh really? I didn't know that, verrrry interesting.
The Greensboro disrespect!!!
Sean is from Fayetteville :)
@@HistoryofWesteros so Brackens vs Blackwood!
The MGM Grand has over 6k rooms so the fabled palace of a thousand rooms, eh. And Harrenhal held Tywin's 20k army
Good stuff ya'll
As far as name, relationship between Jain Farstrider in WOT books who fills same role and Lomas Longstrider in GRRM’s world, far-strider long-strider, no?
great catch, absolutely! Jain is in our notes for part 2 (and a few other comparisons). :)
Definitely a nod to Robert Jordan, I wouldn't be surprised if GRRM created Lomas Longstrider after reading about Jain in the Wheel of Time series both fulfil that role of the traveling storyteller that broadens the world the novels are set in.
