Good point about treating our hair like it’s innately damaged. If they can convince you that your hair isn’t healthy, you’ll be more likely
to spend more money on their products. When in reality, your hair was never damaged to begin with.
Facts folks really don't like 4C Hair. Hurts my feelings sometimes cause it took me years to start accepting my hair type. I kept it relaxed to feel accepted. But now I've been natural for 9 years and I fully love my tight curls ❤️❤️
Why would that hurt your feelings... not everyone like the same thing. If you're happy in yourself, what sm1 else likes or doesn't like shouldn't bother ya. Js ♥ live n let live
@@user-zx5xw4yw2e reason why I felt like that is when I was younger that's all I heard. It lowers your self esteem making you feel ugly about yourself.
People with 4c hair don't like 4c hair. This girl said "4c hair needs weave to look good" on a comment asking about no-addition hairstyles, on a video on yt about 4c hairstyles that only showed them all adding extra hair at some point. That made me angry, 4c hair doesn't need fake hair added to look good
People only seem to like 4C when it's long. It's like if the hair isn't past your shoulders people don't wanna see it.
I’m glad I didn’t listen to the people who I went to to get my hair pressed and curled and they told me I needed a relaxer.
Also using protein on a regular and unnecessary basis is a trait we took from relaxed hair care. And believing the standard of beauty is always having hair styles that show the length of our hair. Shrinkage is beautiful and it’s ok if your hair doesn’t show it’s full length all the time! Confined look great. Let’s all embrace showing our face and features more with updos etc
I’m over it, getting out of the shower shivering to deep condition with heat, adding an extra 30 minutes to my wash day. Any deep conditioners I have will be used as regular conditioners 😂
That's exactly what I do. My deep conditioner stays on for about 5 mins or so and thats because I'm detangling. 😂. I have a simple hair care routine. Shampoo, conditioner, and then leave in with my cream and oil.....I add moose if I do a twist out😊
I had a friend tell me every 4-6 weeks for a trim. I was like absolutely not meanwhile she’s a 100% straight natural
@user-fj7qe9on2h lol oh no I know! I was talking more about the 4-6 weeks. That's too often even if you are a straight natural. I have to have my hair stretched to cut though, prefer it. Up to 2x a year
@@PeaceJewel Exactly! It makes no sense to trim that often. There is no need to trim your hair that often. You would never see results if you do it that way. I trim twice a year and I see tremendous growth results
@@ladidodi8912 some people talk cuz they like their own voice... because the sense NONE of this makes!!! 🤣🤣🤣
If you are trying to maintain a haircut then that recommendation is valid. And maybe this is the confusion that they are translating to maintenance trims. Either way people need to listen carefully then think before regurgitating info...
There needs to be more discussions about this topic. I think the fatigue we see now the natural hair UA-cam community is because we are not having the conversations about the very points you made in this post. There are so many techniques and suggestions that come from the straight hair, the relaxed and compromised hair community that has influenced, how the Natural Community navigate hair care practices that we don’t even realize that we are doing so many unnecessary things to our hair. So many lightbulbs went off in my head!! 💡💡💡
🤔 ‘Compromised Hair Community’
I *love* it and this needs to be a thing. They can all just have their little corner and regurgitate the nonsense.
That last one - proclivity to smooth natural hair.
I'm so tired of laid edges on 4b - 4c hair
I’m still trying to get myself out of this chokehold of deep conditioning every wash day lol. I’m working on it.
So you literally just wash it and moisturize it? 😳 that’s new but would definitely save me the conditioner
@@errrrthethingsinlife deep conditioner is a different product from "regular" conditioner...I'm going to try stop using it every wash day myself
Your beard gives me captain Jack Sparrow vibes and I love it!❤️🙌🏾
I’m a lazy straight natural and I approve this message 😂 I only deep condition once in a while and it’s never for more than 10 mins and get trims only like 2 times a year
I just straightened my hair a few days ago -n- it's now reverting and I love it. I miss my coils/curls. Can't til wash day! Natural hair is easy!😁😂😂😂
I agree with all of this!!! And can I just say, NOT deep conditioning is working for me. Simplifying my routine has absolutely worked! My scalp end strands are thriving again. Thank you for all you do 💜💜💜🙆🏽♀️🙏🏾
I wanna see more beard locs out here! They’re dope af ❤
Thank you! Fellas are starting to notice them so it might start taking off
I am lovin ER’THANG about the visual! Eye-Candy Handsome! And he smart too!
GIVING!!❤❤❤❤❤
When I went to my stylist the other day, she was like you don’t need to deep condition all the time it’s only when you really need it. All these years from watching UA-cam and learning about natural hair, always thought we had to deep condition every week, but apparently not not.
I only trim every year like 1/2 to 1 inch. And deep condition once a month. Works for me
Thank you. "Smoothing" 4c hair (WNG) is the new hustle...😊
The hair trimming part. Thank You! I was like these ppl crazy as hell. I was taught hair does NOT grow evenly. WTH you need a blunt cut to prove you have healthy hair for? And they are OBSESSED. As long as the ends of your natural is not breaking off in the comb into little beads, snagging, tension etc then you should be fine.
I didnt deep condition one wash day (i usually wash my hair every two weeks) and the difference with styling my hair after was NIGHT AND DAY! My hair was a lot more difficult to detangle and manipulate into a hair style. After that day i never skipped out on it again😂!
But my hair isn’t damaged at all, its just a matter of what works for my hair!
Can you do a video on how to keep natural hair moisturized? Please.
trying to unlearn the affinity for neat parts every time cause I know it's gon fuck up my locs
Straight/Relaxed hair is also not the standard of how long a naturally coily person's hair is. I get tired of folks attempting to compare the two. 3 inches of naturally coily hair might actually be "6+ inches" in straight-haired land when you distort the hair. However, my hair isn't straight nor do I wear it that way so why would I use straight-length as the standard for non-straight hair?
I love deep conditioning! Plus I only wet my hair once a week if even so it's worth it for me
I'd love to give you a hug. Your content is so freeing and reaffirming. Thank you for posting, especially this one.
I agree with all of this! And as far as trims, I only get them 2x a yr and it's never more than an inch.
This beard is one in a billion. This is my first time seeing locs in a beard. You go dude! 🎉🎉
You're facial expressions when throwing shade..🏆💋😎
I think when people stop detangling in the shower, they'll stop using a lot of deep conditioners.
Since I stopped detangling in the shower, my use of in-shower conditioner reduced a lot which means more money in my pocket and my hair has been thriving.
@@friedchicken892 it depends. If I had a protective style of more than 2 weeks, I detangle before and after shampoo because of the knots in my roots and shed hair
@@uberhaute_naturalz84 Okay thanks i want to do it before shampoo with cowash to see if that helps
I’d like to thank you! You have given me so much information I can’t even begin to explain what a relief it is. My daughters friends come over and will spend weekends/weeks with us when they aren’t in school. I realized quick I need to learn how to handle natural hair at the very least, so I don’t cause any damage to their hair when they are in my care. I live in Vermont and there isn’t a whole lot of resources here for me to learn from, so again, THANK YOU!!
I had to have some corrective cutting to get rid of my heat damaged hair and even it.
Lawd I only trimmed my ends about 5x in the entire 13 years I've been natural. And even when I did it I dusted them and only snipped split ends I saw. Never understood the edge control mess either. My philosophy was that my edges don't need controlling. I don't use any of that mess. Now with these locs I'm even more free than I ever was.
I love this! Narada what do you think about olaplex being used for natural hair that is not chemically treated with color is it necessary? I’m seeing a lot of naturals using olaplex and from my understanding it is used for color treated hair.
Olaplex is a bond rebuilder. It is a necessity for those who do things to hair that break down the sulfide bonds in hair. That can be heat, color, relaxers, etc. Even those who have high porosity hair can benefit from the treatment but it shouldn't be too often.
I've been following you for years ❤️ I just love your thought process
I had been relaxed for as long as I can remember before I decided to start transitioning to natural 2 years ago. All of my family was relaxed and the women in my family projected pretty toxic, self-hating opinions about natural hair, so straight hair was the norm for me. Like it never even occurred to me that my hair was “damaged” by virtue of being relaxed. It wasn’t until I got on social media to learn how to care for my natural hair that I realized just how extra some folks are about haircare 🤯 It was like I had stepped into a whole new and overwhelming world. I’m definitely not deep conditioning every week, I refuse to moisturize my hair every day (my hair doesn’t like being damp all the time), I don’t oil my scalp, and I don’t agree that aloe vera is the best thing since sliced bread for me. At first I thought it was just the natural girlies, but recently “haircare advice” videos from relaxed women have been popping up on me. I sure as hell didn’t do all the treatments, greenhousing, multiple types of shampoo, etc. that they do when I was relaxed, but my hair was much longer, thicker and healthier looking than most of these influencers (this is not a brag; just highlighting how my hair was thriving despite my apparent obliviousness to relaxed haircare rules).
At the end of the day, I have gratitude for all influencers even if the only way they’ve helped me was by showing me who I don’t want to be. Some have recommended some really great products and some have really helped me heal the insecurity I once had about my natural hair ❤ But I think it’s time for me drop back into oblivion and give social media a rest because MERCY, I’m tiredT y’all! 😆
4c hair isn’t hard. Just need More hydration than conditioning.
As a former relaxed hair, I approve this message! Thankfully, all those practices are extinct now. I quickly learn how my 4C hair are very healthy and resilient. In that sense, I did way more work to grow my relaxed hair than I do my natural hair and those babies are thriving!
Love these tips. Thanks!
How to grow my beard. It stays dry
Use water and hair grease. Check out my channel. I have videos on my beard care
I love your videos there was one particular video that I really loved but I was in the middle of work and I couldn't comment and then I lost the video so I just wanted to say I love your content and I am so appreciative for what you do and I appreciate you so much thank you thank you thank you
@AfrikanHairGod
Please forgive my ignorance Is there a place where I can ask you questions specific to my problem Cuz I I really don't know what to do with my hair
I don't do virtual consultations. I can answer general questions or lead you to videos to help with concepts that you are struggling with
I am realizing more and more on my hair journey that less is more..especially natural imo. 💙
I love this stylist! Stay blessed my brotha!
Wow your beard is so cool!!
I miss the watch parties....😭😭😭
Great video Narada!
😮good information. Thanks again. Peace Love and Blessings
Thank you for your expertise in haircare. I don't put heat in my hair and also follow a very intentional haircare regimen, which includes wearing my hair in twist 99% of the time unless Im going to an event or hanging out. So I trim my hair every 4-6 months, which is perfect because of my lifestyle
I love your advice
No lies told!💯 Happy new year good sir!
These are valid points. 👍🏽
I thought you were going to mention “length checks “ 😅
Ad a former relaxed gal i agree with all these!!! 🤌🏾
I don’t understand the trimming. Trim when needed.
This dude is the 'Carter G Woodson' of haircare.....❤❤❤
I'm planning to blow dry my hair weekly for the next few weeks and think I should deep condition each week due to the heat. Is this true?
I realized the hair cut part after I transitioned. I cut my hair like twice a year now and it is very healthy
I needddd some tips
I’m trying my best to take care of my hair and retain length
I straighten my hair after 4 years just wanted to take part of the silk press season trend 🤭 it’s been a week now I only flat ironed once I wonder will my hair break off from not putting any products in (only oil)
How long should I go without washing?
How long should I go without products?
Why did I feel called out from the get go😅, I DC every week
🖤🖤
i considered myself a woke natural, but you are educating me sir!❤
Great short….I’m transitioning without the big chop. Can I get away with only deep conditioning once or twice a month?
king, do you have any videos with steps on how we can grow our hair long? ive seen a video by Blowout Professor but he didnt answer if this method he made up would work for Black/Curly Bush hair
Sir, where are you located? I am struggling with my post chemo new growth and different textures 4b on top and sides and STRAIGHT in the back. 🤣
How often should locs be washed?
I have worn my hair natural for almost twelve years I wear it in a miro braid style it doesn't grow longer than shoulder length since I have stopped using perms , do you have a solution 🤷
I usually trim every quarter (every four months) about 1-2 inches, do you all think I’m trimming too much ?
I have been trying to find a place out here in New York and it's really hard to find so I can get a wash and treat it every week or every 2 weeks I am supposed to do you know of any places out here in New York if possible
In the past, I dc every week and my hair grew out healthy and I retained the growth. When I became lazy and used the instant conditioner I got breakage.
When you say you got lazy... You mean the only thing that changed was you not deep conditioning? Or did you start to neglect your hair more than usual
@AfrikanHairGod I got tired of dcing with heat every week. That was the only thing I changed In my routine.
That's interesting....I've never seen that happen like that but anything is possible
@AfrikanHairGod Yr right and I'm wrong. I've started alternating between DC and instant conditioners and my hair is still soft & easy to detangle. When I was permed I DC every week because I knew the chemicals could damage my hair. Since I don't use chemicals and rarely use heat I don't need to DC every week. Again, you're right.
true!!!
I am currently trying to understand my hair. As of now, my hair DOES NOT like consistency and never has. It DOES NOT appreciate oils and butters/creams
It likes protein treatments here and there. Deep conditioning periodically. But most of all, it likes being left alone for months. It grows like crazy.
But obviously I can't live this way. Soooo 🤦♀️
💯💯💯👏🏽👏🏽
Deep conditioning worked for me.
Where are you located?
Where r u located
Last one!! They’re always trying to smooth their hair! Let it frizz up! It’s meant to frizz!!
yes i trim my hair every 6 to 8 months
🤩
Oh wow! Loving your beard 🎉I was today years old when I first seen a dred loc beard 👍
Did he just loc his beard cool
Where are you located I need my hair done 😢
What do you use on your beard? 😍 I want to grow my husband's
🤯
Please help us get our edges back🤧🙃
Might sound funny but doing edges that wasn't there with water oil alittle edge control daily and mines came back!
some people need to condition oftern bcs of where they live - like i live in a very arid area. in my rainforest home country this would be different
No you just need to moisturize more. Conditioning doesn't equate to moisturizing
Does that mean to prevent breakage we don’t need to trim regularly?
You mean cut undamaged hair before it has the opportunity to become damaged? Cutting should be done with reason and purpose. You wouldn't treat a flu if you don't have it just because it's flu season... You may not even catch it just like your hair may not actually break.
It means trim as needed. So if your ends aren't coiling, if you notice thinning towards the ends, if the ends tangle often especially after you just detangled, or if you're noticing breakage at the ends....gon head and trim those off before they start splitting higher up the strands.
Don't be talkin bout my 4C hair!!! LOL
How do I trim my natural hair without straightening with a hot iron?
What did you mean by smoother hair? I’m a bit confused on that
Sleeker, neat, smooth appearance like straight relaxed hair. When the hair is not smooth or undefined is treated as problematic and undesirable like an Afro vs a defined wash n go
So my heat damaged hair that I’m wearing straight all the time is not actually damaged? Lol
I seen a tiktoker say that “deep conditioning is recommended every wash day “im like wattt
People with straight hair don't even deep condition so how does that have anything to do with straight hair? Straight hair by it's very nature self conditions and oil runs down the shaft more easy.
An a trim is used to get rid of split ends so a trim is important.
Relaxed straight hair.... i know what a trim is for. My point still stands
My 4c hair is problematic 😢
Is it okey to wash hair every two weeks instead of every week because 😮💨
Sala bal hi ni bacha😂😂
🤣
You should know being that it’s 4C hair on your chin!
He wasn't criticizing 4c hair. He was criticizing people's obsession with having "smooth" natural hair, and stating that those people view 4c hair as problematic because it doesn't get smooth and easily lay down like some other textures.
When you mentioned hair practices that were carried over to natural hair due to relaxed hair being damaged, a light bulb went off for me 💡😂
Me too. Lol I been doing it wrong
