Marco was my favorite Nightwish member. It always felt like he was the pillar that supported the rest of the band. Sure, Tuomas wrote the songs, Floor, Anette or Tarja fronted the band with majestic vocals, Emppu and Jukka/Kai were gods on the guitar and the drums respectively... but amidst it all there was always Marco, standing there and strumming his bass, providing the backbone to each track and his vocals perfectly accentuating the female leads. And it seemed like he would always be there. At the end of the day I think he was the most important member of Nightwish save for Tuomas. Couldn't imagine the band going on without him, and apparently, according to some interviews, neither could Tuomas or Emppu at first. I'm glad they decided to go on, because Nightwish surely has more music magnificence to offer the world, but it will be tough seeing the live performances without everyone's favorite blonde viking playing that bass.
Well said! To me the best of Nightwish has always been Marko. I’m glad that they decided to continue because it’s the bread and butter for many people and now they have Floor who is exceptional. What a voice and presence! There’s nothing wrong with the current NW setup, they are a world class crew. Still, I love Marko the most, his voice just goes straight to my heart.
I totally agree - Tuomas is the mastermind, the genius behind Nightwish, Floor ist the face and the voice, but Marco was the heart. Miss him more than I can express in words 😢🤘

I am... I never have been to Nightwish concerts, always thinking there is time. I did not cry after Taria - I liked her voice on records, on concerts not so much. But Marco??!! I cry and I cry and I cry. But still, of course I respect his decision, I do hope he will find new paths and in general get better. It is sad that such a wonderful guy, who "has everything" one could think, struggles so much.
Floor and Marco hitting that chorus together is one of those things you feel your entire body and mind react to, even just watching it on UA-cam. This is his song. I hope Marco is doing better, and he has my best wishes for his retirement. Sad as it is having him leave, that's only a testament to how important he is to this band and how great the music they made with him is.
This song has everything: very harmonically rich guitar part, so poetical lyrics and wonderful melody. His voice fits perfectly for this song and he sings it so well... Bravo!
I can't believe this band has been around since 1996, released 9 albums and only sold 9 million records world wide! They should've sold at least upwards 25-30 million considering the quality of the music which is epic! I'm from Sweden and fucking Europe has sold 25 million albums :O

If ever a band deserved to find the fountain of youth, never grow old, and make music for all time... it would be this lineup of Nightwish. They've found their perfect blend, and to hear the band speak in interviews, they would do it forever if they could.
I love all these guys together and Marco is such a sweetheart. He's such a treasure to have and I love this song because he gets to showcase his stellar voice and his stage presence. I've been following NW since their first album and they age like a fine wine. They just keep getting better and suprising me. 💙💙
i'll miss him but honestly, he was with the band for 20 years which is longer than many bands even last and i completely understand that he wants to move on. his wife and kids come first, after all.

I'm teary eyed. That was so beautiful. As a guitarist for 22 years, medievil-sounding music is something I definitely enjoy. Although I don't like Nightwish (well, I've never really listened that much to them), this was enchanting. And I love his cleft beard. Like a true viking.
Marco is a bassist, a singer, a performer. He is so good at all. His presence on stage is huge. Nightwish with both Floor and Marco on stage are probably the best live metal band. Having experienced Pinkpop 2022 and mainly, Hellfest 2022, we all know now that Nightwish can still do amazing shows. The music is always great, Tuomas, Emppu, Kai, Troy are still top musicians and Jukka is a perfect bassist. Floor is really awesome performing, her vocals, energy, contact with audiences are the best ever. Shoemaker and Ad Astra outro are incredible. This band is still amazing live. But, with Marco on stage they are THE best live band.
I'm sad to have never seen them live, I was hoping to do so the very next chance I got. I still will but it will be missing something without him. He was a huge part of why nightwish has been so special to me. We'll miss you Marco but we wish you all the best
Me neither, in fact I've never been to any concert in my life so I was hoping they would be my first. When they had announced the virtual show, I bought my ticket because this was better than nothing. Now it won't feel the same and maybe Troy will be the one to sing Endlessness. It would be cool if at the virtual event he sent a video message for us or at least maybe just play Endlessness.

This song reminds me of when I was a kid. The gypsys would come stay out at my grandparents farm down on the river for about 3 months. They would have about 20 wagons in a circle around the bonfire. All of my cousins & I would lay under the wagons everynight & listen to the music & watch them dance all night long.
Despite all the lead singers, Marco has always been my favourite. Tarot or Nightwish, his voice just has that something. Having Floor as a back up vocalist just tells something. I´ve had the privilidge to see them live and it was awesome. A man and a guitar with 20 000 people, that sums it it up quite well. How many people can you really put in that situation. Keep well and hold your colours high!

Marco has always been an amazing singer, but I feel like he really stepped it up since Floor joined the band. I don’t know if it’s because she challenges him to step up, or if he finally feels like he can go all out without overshadowing the female vocalist.
Probably both. Also, Floor is incredibly skilled as a vocal technician and can probably help him on that front and he's probably matured as a singer over time and grown more confident as well.
It looks like to me that the two of them have fallen into this groove where they can vocally play off of each other. When they're doing their vocal dueling thing, both of them are grinning like Cheshire cats. Marko knows he can go all out and not worry about Floor. She's a dramatic soprano with immense power, so he can go for it without worry. Marriage made in vocal heaven.
Bill Attercliffe I couldn’t agree with you more, they are all phenomenal musicians but Floor seems to have this vibe/connection that really translates to whoever she’s with. I thought it was just how well she clicked with NW, but after watching Beste and going back through her previous bands, she shows up and is ready to work, and that fits so well with NW because they all seem to be exactly the same. I’m a newer fan, but I’ve heard that Tjara didn’t really rehearse with the band, which blows me away. I’ve watched some of the older performances, and enjoyed some but I saw a comment someone wrote about her voice being ‘above the rest of the band’. I get that they meant it as a compliment, and I can understand that but Floor seems to just fit into wherever she’s at. Being a new fan, and getting to look at all the past performances and the new ones, and it really seems to me, I’m not trying to knock Tjara or Annette, but it seems like it’s a final product now. The growing pains are all behind them and they just all are on the same page. I love Troy and Khai is a world class drummer (almost too damn good from a show/energy perspective).
He has always been a colossal presence in the songs he is in, and has this unique way to mix with the singers. One of my all time performance of any band is him with Tarja on the Phantom of the Opera. Not only keeps up with her, but makes that perfomance and song that much better. Never again has that song was the same, because not only of their joint perfomance, but for all that each of them put into it.
Mr Hietala, you are missed from NW, a lot. Your voice, smile coy eyes, charisma and guitar playing.

Despite all the lead singers, Marco has always been my favourite. Tarot or Nightwish, his voice just has that something. Having Floor as a back up vocalist just tells something. I´ve had the privilidge to see them live and it was awesome. A man and a guitar with 20 000 people, that sums it it up quite well. How many people can you really put in that situation. Keep well and hold your colours high!

I am also plagued by PTSD as iceing on the crap cake. I wish him ALL THE Best! I have an MRI today that I have been begging for. I want to rule out any physiological anomalies that may be contributing to my conditions, especially since 2018.

Marco has always been an amazing singer, but I feel like he really stepped it up since Floor joined the band. I don’t know if it’s because she challenges him to step up, or if he finally feels like he can go all out without overshadowing the female vocalist.
Probably both. Also, Floor is incredibly skilled as a vocal technician and can probably help him on that front and he's probably matured as a singer over time and grown more confident as well.
He’s mentioned that he doesn’t have to worry about his vocals overriding Floors so he’s been going all out.
It looks like to me that the two of them have fallen into this groove where they can vocally play off of each other. When they're doing their vocal dueling thing, both of them are grinning like Cheshire cats. Marko knows he can go all out and not worry about Floor. She's a dramatic soprano with immense power, so he can go for it without worry. Marriage made in vocal heaven.
Bill Attercliffe I couldn’t agree with you more, they are all phenomenal musicians but Floor seems to have this vibe/connection that really translates to whoever she’s with. I thought it was just how well she clicked with NW, but after watching Beste and going back through her previous bands, she shows up and is ready to work, and that fits so well with NW because they all seem to be exactly the same.
I’m a newer fan, but I’ve heard that Tjara didn’t really rehearse with the band, which blows me away. I’ve watched some of the older performances, and enjoyed some but I saw a comment someone wrote about her voice being ‘above the rest of the band’. I get that they meant it as a compliment, and I can understand that but Floor seems to just fit into wherever she’s at. Being a new fan, and getting to look at all the past performances and the new ones, and it really seems to me, I’m not trying to knock Tjara or Annette, but it seems like it’s a final product now. The growing pains are all behind them and they just all are on the same page. I love Troy and Khai is a world class drummer (almost too damn good from a show/energy perspective).
He has always been a colossal presence in the songs he is in, and has this unique way to mix with the singers. One of my all time performance of any band is him with Tarja on the Phantom of the Opera. Not only keeps up with her, but makes that perfomance and song that much better. Never again has that song was the same, because not only of their joint perfomance, but for all that each of them put into it.
