My Dad worked for De Havilland at Broughton. Made me a doll's house with fitted carpets taken from off cuts from the Comet 4 😄We lived off Cockburn St, had lino & rugs but the dolls had posh carpets courtesy of De Havilland.
Morning George. Thank you for the video. This one brought back childhood memories of visits to Speke Airport (never Liverpool according to my nana) during the school holidays. When I was small (1970s) you could just walk into the airport main building and go up to the viewing balcony to watch the planes.
Hello ruth thanks for watching love glad you enjoyed the video I remeber going to that airport as a kid to watch planes back then you could access the upper gallery Good times
It's amazing the things you discover watching your videos! I've been through the Estuary Park hundreds of times and never realised what was behind those building. Thanks so much George for taking the time to record these things for posterity. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Never went the first creamfields but went the next 6, last one there was 2005, Happy days, in 2000 we got off about 5.30 then went the Fox in speke, it was packed at 6 in the morning and everyone was still buzzing
I remember at the time i drove the 82 bus and i was on early one morning fook me when i got to the old damons there must have been about 1k people at the stop lol
I live off banks rd and have walked past those old railings for yrs and never noticed them before great bit of history right under my nose thanks for pointing it out George 👍
Great video! I think Hercules Drive is named after the Bristol Hercules radial engine, used by many aircraft during and after WW2. Also, Seahawk Drive is probably named after the Supermarine Seahawk, one of the early jet aircraft used by the Royal Navy. I used to live in Hunt's Cross, in the 60's, my dad was a pilot with Starways Airlines and flew DC3's DC4's and DC6's from Speke. He was also an RAF reservist, and flew Meteor MK7's from RAF Speke, with 611 Squadron. I spent a lot of my time with my mates at the airport on weekends. I remember other airlines at Speke were British Eagle, Cambrian Airlines, Dan Air, and Air Lingus. When British Caledonian went out of business I remember seeing a lot of their Boeing 707's lined up on the apron waiting to be sold off. Happy days!
That was alright George. Took my lad down on that runway years ago and enjoyed it 👍. Got a couple more things to mention to you, I don’t know if you saw my comments off your ‘Forgotten Liverpool’ video but going back to wavertree there is an old railway ticket station on the corner of smith down Road and nicander road which is now called C and G finishing and may be worth calling into it as he may show you round the shop. Then if you carry on walking under the railway bridge on your right hand side is where the access was to get up to the railway station but now fenced off. Also on the corner of Crawford Road is the old ‘Hatfield hotel’. There is a sign above the main doorway with the name on it and on the floor as you are about to enter the building are if memory serves me right, little tiles with the name of the hotel. It was nicknamed ‘The pub that never was’ but that’s something you can research why. Ok George 👍
Hi George this area is massive l walked down there a while back by gate number 6 is the back entrance to Speke Hall where you can enter the grounds, but the funniest thing that happened to me l went on the slip way and decided to venture off the slip way and my foot went into a deep smelly black mud not good, very interesting videos lot's l didn't know especially the history cheers George 👍
Brings back memories of De Havilland, I use to work in the aerospace industry many years ago and had to work to DHA specifications which were De Havilland. This went onto to Hawker Siddeley, then split between Airbus Hawker & BAE systems in Broughton North Wales. Fantastic video George as always 👏 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Siddeley
very interesting place round liverpool I think the old slipway for water aircraft way we go got lots different place my llandudno and great orme we go elephant cave great video
I used to watch Gary Rothwell train on all of the old runways before the estuary business park was built. He used to hold the worlds fastest wheelie record
Great Video George…always walked down Brunswick to hang around down the shore back in the 80s, good ole days 😂 I haven’t seen the memorial as left in 94… thanks and take care ❤
We had a drink in an old pub on the same side of the airport on hale Road. The Pegasus, I just checked and it’s gone. But it was definitely there around 20 years ago.
That yard with the Triumphs has still got rail tracks on the floor. I looked on old map and Blackburne St. was a railway that ran off the Garston junction then serviced the factories running off it.
One you might like old tip over the water port sunlight river park ch62 4tq good view of Liverpool aswell from there dock rd north parking Also while over there eastam country park old zoo bear pit
You can get from Hale, down to Oglett Shore then right along to Speke hall. I did it a couple of years ago on my mountain bike. I slipped down a big embankment at Ogglett shore and got covered in mud 🤦♂️
As an ex trucker i know what them little concrete blobs are on the corners its to stop trucks cutting the corners with the trailor and messing the grass up😊
@04:27 Did i miss the Pondy Thing George??. Great name for a Fishing 🎣 place Pondy Thing 😂😂👍 propper Scouse that 😊😊. Bit like a ThingyMajiggyWatchamacallit oojjiiieemabob. 😂😂😂
Just Googled Borehole non potable " borehole water can be non-potable, meaning it's not suitable for drinking without filtration. However, it can be used for other non-potable purposes."
Where the old cars are used to be a builders yard in the 1990s. Them cars haven’t move for about 10 years. I believe the concrete things in the corners are to stop the wagons chewing up the grass on the corners.
I went to the first 3 Creamfields there on the guest list, even got to hang out with Sara Cox in the VIP area watching Carl Cox try to teach minor celebs how to mix! Toilets in there were a lot nicer than the public ones! 😂
I went aswell to the first one makes me laugh now my mate bought a shed load of water and was selling it from the boot of his car outside the old fire station for £1 a bottle....good times
Do not know why roads named Skyhawk (Falklands war? Argentinian plane) or Tornado? Why no Concorde way?? Seen Concorde at Speke in the mid seventies, very loud😀, Concorde according to Google a good history with Liverpool, Liverpool to Paris for readers of the Echo😀😎 a good example
None potable is no drinking dirty water a borehole is usually quite deep for water to test quality problem is a lot of tributarys are polluted I'm a plastic Scouser I used to work at old speke airport
Belter video, There was never a Tornado drive in Speke. The roads around there were named after WW2 aircraft. Tornado came much later. BTW, when you got to the them signs saying about bore holes, right next to that is where MERPOL do the live firing exercises.
Cheers i thought there was i was told there was a tornado dr in this estuary park That merpol place i was told its the new speke station Thanks for watching micheal
Good stuff.maybe all them "dated" propellers and wings, have stuff to do with the new ones ? No comments on them .they are weird af.i think it's a geoenginering..a your good to land your spook planes here ?? ..no mentions of the old ones ..?? That airport is dodgy af any way all kinds of military aircraft taking off and landing. Plus plenty of dodgy private/surveys aircraft offices in that whole area .?? Great stuff m8 ..

Top Vid Mate, None Potable means not drinking water quality
Good to know! Cheers and thanks for watching
I reckon those concrete castings placed on the corners are probably there to deter vehicles from going on the grass.
Its wierd that not every building has them

@@Afcliverbird65 its in the estuary park somewhere
@g2emedia1977 There was a unit on shore rd no 70 was called tornado .
That’s because of the old Burtonwood airbase. This video is about the old Speke airport & it’s history 👍
I went to the IOM on a propeller plane from there in the early 70s very bumpy runway
20:34 there is also tram lines to or rail lines

No
when the estate first it was used as a race track.
@@brianburns9190 really never knew that

Non potable means you can't drink it..
Probably be easirr if they just put not safe to drink...yeh?
Oh, and non-potable water is basically not suitable for drinking.
Never heard of that before i assumed you couldnt put it in pots lol
You are probably on the old taxiway, runways are straight for obvious reasons...
It did go straight towards the old airport?
Btw its actually on google as a runway "historical landmark"
