We will be running two NFT systems - the first hydroponics system has it's own nutrient reservoir and the aquaponics NFT will be connected to the aquaponics system. To me, Aquaponics is just hydroponics optimized to use marine organisms (fish, crustaceans, etc.) to make the nutrients for the plants rather than purchasing them.
You get an extra food source to make up for the extra complexity.
If you do it right, you can minimize costs.
