    PLEASE don’t color your boxes and cartridges. There was a point in time when the comic book community thought a similar process was a good idea, but all people ended up doing was destroying the value of their books down the road in attempting to “restore” them. I think the same thing will happen for games. Just my opinion.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 6 років тому +22

      Thank you, and I agree 100% to note have no issues with trying to straighten the boxes out, and putting them in a protector, but as you said the markers are just a big NO!! Same for game labels.

      RWT, A very good point as I was going through old family photos with my mother not long back, and some of the Polaroid instant pictures she had put dates on back of in the 80's, and 90's, the black marker now either looks almost brown, or a very light purple.

    • @Nintendrew
      @Nintendrew  6 років тому +31

      This is very much a personal preference. But either way, there are plenty of games/boxes with kids' names written in black permanent marker that sell for close to full value 😛 So I have no reservations about using them to improve overall appearance, especially when I have no intention of reselling. Thanks for watching!

    • @Jackie_Tracks
      @Jackie_Tracks 6 років тому +4

      123gamerman comics are kind of a different case since trying to restore one just messes up the key selling point but trying to restore a game box doesnt change the programming of the game at all. Sure people are fussy and restoration devalues the game anyway but because the box art is basically just a nice extra restoring it shouldn't tank the value as much as restoring a comic book would.

    I have a PS2 game that unfortunately got a little sun bleached, not the artwork, the spine and it's the little logo at the top the red is a little lighter than it should be. Don't really want a reproduction and was wondering if anyone knows or could recommend a really close red marker or paint pen I could use to carefully recolor the red and make it bold again?

    Hi Nintendrew, I've got an idea for a video you could do. Since it's related to restoring game boxes, what about disposing bad smells from game boxes & cartridges. I bring this up because I've recently bought some boxed NES games from Ebay and they stunk of this old musty odor. They look fine, but they seem to have this issue. Maybe this would help other people who maybe experiencing the same problem.

    Thank you sooooo much for this. I was skeptical but seeing as you showed doing this to a Mario Party 2 box i was sold this was legit before even seeing the results. I picked out my worst box, Super Mario Kart. It was so bad it couldn't even stand up right on it's own. I'm actually flabbergasted at the result. Literally just ordered a ton of box protectors too. I'm about to iron out the ones that need it before they arrive and can protect the ones already ok too. I can't believe I've had a Snes and N64 collection for as long as i have and never bought box protectors lol.

The Gyromite cartridge, cartridge protecter, game manuals, and even the styrofoam thing that goes above the cartridge are in pristine condition. The only thing that isn't is the box. At one corner it looks like a dog got to it. I am sad that there isn't really a way to fix this but I still love my Gyromite CIB.

    Lighter fluid is the quickest way to remove most stickers including the gum residue often left behind. Simple squirt on top of the sticker, let it soak for 15-20 seconds and then lightly peel. Put some lighter fluid on a corner of a napkin and wipe to get off the remaining residue. The lighter fluid evaporates quickly so even if exposed cardboard absorbs some fluid, it will evaporate in a minute or two and leave no stain, odor or residue. :)

    Would this work on Pokémon Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green Boxes? Got some in their original boxes but the boxes look kind of dented up. The bottom of the box tho is folded and doesn’t just open like the top, and the boxes are kinda holographic. I’d like to restore them and display em.

    Good tips except the marker stuff, that's not an acceptable or wise restoration method if you ever think of selling the game(s). I certainly wouldn't want anyone painting over the boxes of used games I'm acquiring to try and hide their flaws. Other than that, this is a nice and easy way to get the beat up boxes looking better on shelves.

    I have a question: will this work on a game box that had a shiny/holo effect on it? I have a box for Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA and it got smashed recently. I remembered this video but dont want to iron it if it ruins the "shine" on the box.

    I've only managed to get one CIB game from when games came in cardboard boxes but when I build up a proper collection I'll definitely use this video if and when the boxes aren't up to shape (pun intended).

    I recently obtained a bunch of boxed NES games that were exposed to mice in a basement for many years. I would like to clean them in case they have been exposed to disease carrying urine and droppings. I don’t want to ruin the cardboard. The heat from the iron may help with some of this but does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Aww,this makes me even more jealous of video game collectors :(
    But it's a quick thing happens and stops,so it's not like I'm gonna give a dislike for this.

    Step 1.Time travel back to the date of the games release
    Step 2. Replace your damaged copy with a new one
    Step 3. Head back to the present
    Step 4.Unbox that bad boi

    I'm curious as to what N64 game boxes look like on the inside because I've seen users have just the cartridges on their shelves and the boxes seem over the top for such cartridges. From what I saw in this video, there is a cardboard structure I assume would hold the cartridge?

    Most CIB games were games I bought new. Some are in better condition than others. I stopped removing stickers from game boxes when I bought a used copy of Crash Bandicoot Twinsanity that took forever to remove the label.
    But, great guide Nintendrew.

    I kinda wish I'd kept some of the boxes that came with my Gameboy Advance SP games. They got crumpled and we just keot them until my mum chucked them.

    17 dollars for just a box protector?
    If you give 3 dollars nore you can get a n64 game (not boxed)then if your friend has box you can ask him/her to scan the box and send you with social media then you can print it and here you are, an n64 game with box

    I just buy a fake hard plastic case online. There are beautiful fan made ones out there I prefer to use.
