Nothing is wrong with his eyes. It appears as if he just woke up from a long, deep sleep. Our eyes are mucous membranes and newborns sleep A LOT. It’s normal to get what my family always called “sleep in our eyes” which can be the result of a narrow duct in the eye. This causes a slight sticky substance to kind of “glue” a baby’s eyes and/or lashes together when they wake up. It used to happen to me as a very young child and I would have trouble opening an eye. On a baby, you need to wipe a baby’s eye(s) with cooled down boiled water while a sterile cotton ball or cotton pad. I used to get the gunk out of my eye lashes. It still happens to me occasionally.
La camomilla e altri infusi non dovrebbero essere utilizzati per pulire l'occhio, poiché non sono prodotti sterili e potrebbero causare allergie o infezioni. L'occhio deve essere sempre pulito dal condotto lacrimale fino all'angolo dell'occhio, in modo da trascinare via i detriti. Il bambino deve essere sdraiato sulla schiena. Può essere una cosa che si usa in Italia, e forse alcuni genitori qui negli Stati Uniti potrebbero prendersi la responsabilità di farlo, ma non riesco a immaginare nessun medico professionista che lo suggerisca qui.
