They're each musical in their different way, each one can be played differently to make it sing. I can't choose, I don't think i could ever be a drummer. I'd have 20 rides in my kit
Istanbul Agop SE, by far the best; second flat Bosphorus. Aegean interesting. K custom Dry Complex Ride 22" is not that complex. K (canada stamp) 18" not bad. Playing nice.
I’m a fan of Agean cymbals bc they’re very inexpensive compared to the “bigger” brands (I’m a poor drummer even for drummer standards) and their sound is still very rich. So I was happy you featured an Agean and was very surprised that it was a china and still fitted the Latin jazz sound so well. But my question for you is related to your playing. I think you nailed the Latin sound because your playing is very relaxed and fluid while still keeping the syncopated bass pattern very consistent. Your bass drum tuning is beautiful and very effective in evoking a double bass sound. Is there any Latin drumming book/method you’d recommend for studying these rhythms?
Hi! Thanks! I love agean cymbals, and in terms of cymbals, I am sure brand and price don’t matter, only sound and what you do with it matters!! ; ) For the Latin playing, my advice would be to look for Cuban percussionist material . Changuito, Ignacio berroa, and many other… those musicians know the percussion side of this music and just play it on the drum set. “Only drummers” are playing patterns and that’s why it doesn’t work most of the time. You can practice (even on a drum set) the changuito timbal method and play along salsa music not only Latin jazz, this music comes from bolero, chachacha, danzon, son, …… so once you know the differences, you know songs of this styles, you just have to play music freely and that becomes jazz. You are not stuck into technique and patterns! ; ) Hope that is clear, and helpful for you. That’s only my humble point of view of course… wish you good luck and
Hi! These are « false » calf skins from remo…. But you can get this sound from single ply coated skins like remo ambassador ou Evans G1 or same from other brands. You may need to muffle them a little bit to get close to calf sound but not so much.
Well… wood is important but compared to tuning And playing… it is quite nothing! Drum brands would never admit that but … 😉 Cymbals are different because there is no tuning…
Question préférence ride : Mel Lewis 21" , 21" special edition jazz. Venant d'un gars zildjian haha.
Merci!
I needed a time to get used, the weight is unusually balanced… but once you feel them they are great: precise and consistant sound even at low volume !
Great playing, got my attention and feet tapping, love it!
Thanks!! 🙏🏻

The Canadian stamp K and the EAK are my favorite. Great playing!😊
The Canadian k! 😍😍😍 it works in any situation, I love it!
@@christophepiot1756something about the Canadian cymbals. I have many Sabians and love them. Must be the pure waters up there!😊
@@barberjeff67 haha! Who knows? But do you mean clear water for cymbal making or cymbal makers?? 😂🤣

Both! Lol

Mel Lewises show why they kick butt....
Great playing!!!

you're welcome!@@WxkR
Yeah top !!
your tom sound, does this solely come from those what i suspect are calf skin heads or can you tune other heads to sound like that? great video!!

I like Agop Mel Lewis 21” and Zildjian K 18”
Your beat is great!! Comment from Japan.
Yes! The Zildjian 18 is really great for that style! Thanks for your comment, 🙏🏻 i hope finally going on tour in Japan one day… after the pandemic!
@@christophepiot1756 I'm looking forward to you're coming. I wish over pandemic early.
I knew I recognized those sticks.
Of course! ; )

@@christophepiot1756 what's the rebound like? By the design it looks like there's not much rebound
@Harchit Bhatoia You’re right… if you need rebond these are not the sticks to go… in my opinion. But I like them anyway!
Formidable! Sound quality, tuning, playing in latin style👍👍What’s the pitch of your toms?
I have no idea of the pitch… they were sounding good to me like this but i never check the pitch really…
Istanbul Agop Sultan !!
Yeaaah! ; )
Its actually not a Sultan. It's a Jazz Turk.
This renown kit sounds better than Rn2 the new one?
I don’t know what Rn2 is… sorry!
Oh you mean there is a new renown? I don’t know… never played the new ones …
In this video only the bass drum is gretsch renown. 12” tom is vintage Olympic and 14 floor tom is vintage very thin but no idea of brand…
@Christophe Piot
The Rn2 is the new gretsch renown actually on the market.
@ELECTROPLUME - BIRDRUMS
Hi dear friend, yes the gretsch Rn2 is the new renown.
In this video the 18" bass drum is a Rn1 renown the first one .
:)
Wanna sell me that Canadian k? :D
Hahaha !! Oh no!!! I love it too much! Sorry! 😉
